Greetings, is there any actual "beaver pilots" here?? i have a technical question that involves a "hypothetical engine failure" in this beaver in mid-flight..basically, if the engine totally failed, would the beaver immediately plummet to earth in an uncontrollable fashion? OR could you safely glide and steer this beaver to the nearest clearing or water source in front of you??? this plane generates so much lift at low wind speeds it appears like it could glide if need be? thanks God bless!
@harpinKeith I've flown this approach many times (the dock you see on short final is Kenmore's Seaplane base at Lake Washington). I think the video answers your question. At 12 seconds into the vid, the instructor tells the student to cut the power (totally). Notice how the good ol' beaver is gliding quite well at idle, and handles quite gently in the power-off turn (e.g. to avoid the barge moored at 12 o'clock on short final). I hope this helps.
great landing, 5 stars...

Beavers are the planes...by the way did you ever have to hold an Otter to a dock in across wind...

Beautiful landing, greased it. i thought you were going to fly it right into the water with that late flair.

@harpinKeith you can safely glide and steer all the way to your crash site.

@harpinKeith any plane can safely glide if you control your airspeed. Even when the engine fails you're able to pick up speed.

@harpinKeith The space shuttle glides to Earth without power. Anything else with a pair of wings can too. You just need to manage your speed.
