A fair version of this song. Left out the composer's scherzo motif. 101 strings could have done a lot better job.

Clifton Webb had a far greater range of acting talent than the others in the film. H started out in vaudeville and Broadway musicals. Played another mean villain in The Razors Edge. Foppish genius type in several light comedies. Astounding range.

He gave the audiences Gene Tierney in tight fitting outfits and filmy negligees and not caring when her girlfriend gets two 12 gauge barrels of 00 buck in her face. The song helped a lot and stayed at number one for 1944-1946 time period. Love the characters. A great period piece people in the 40's could relate too..

It didn't hurt that at the time of this movie Gene Tierney was something like 21-24 and the men were 32-60. Dana Andrews was potrayed as the now so smart limited career cop who loves her apartment, smells her underwear, and drinks her booze. He was potrayed previously as an action hero and made a lot of tough guy Army/cop movies. No one gets away from him! And then he meets Laura and is suddenly, all throughout the movie, mr emotional. If you've watched this film several times and know the times and actors, it is really a good movie. Vincent Price (before he got into horror movies) was a playboy in the movie who Laura hangs out with as a party buddy but not a lover...vincent was a hearthrob/lover in many of his movies. Clifton Webb was potrayed as a vain rich older man that decided Laura was going to be his or no one elses. Webb was also many movies previously as an intellectual suave lover. Seeing him as a possessive evil

Always loved the theme from "Laura" but much like Grace Kelly I never saw the great appeal (from any standpoint) of Gene Tierney or Kelly. Both faces were similar in that they lacked depth in the sense that it was as though they were wearing a mask that allowed no view of who they were are women.

This song has forever (since I was 18) haunted me!, I saw the original movie in 1947/8, this tell's you how old I am now. I was going with a girl at that time, whom I associated her beauty with Gene Tierney!, and our love for each other.

To make a very! long story short, I was drafted into the Army in 1950, when I returned in 1952, I had 'lost' MY LAURA!-she was stunning!

For years I wondered what had happened to the portrait of Laura that hangs over the fireplace. Apparently, it is now in the possession of writer Russell Baker (who hosted "Masterpiece Theatre" from 1992-2004.) I got his information from Peisha McFee, Catherine McFee's mother, who mentioned the fact in one of her singing classes that I attended. She had been at his home shortly before somebody sang the song in class.

My Mother says I was named after this movie. I tried watching it as a child but as so many youngsters, black & white movies can't be appreciated by young minds. I love this movie now and went as far as finding a original movie posted that hangs on my bedroom wall. Yes, this movie is wonderful, a true classic that can be charished for all time.
