Um, the reason you use harnesses instead of collar has more to do with dogs that have a long, fragile neck than the short snout issue. JRT dogs are too rambunctious for a collar when young, definitely should be harness leashed.
Please get them harnesses! Mine does and he never chokes or pulls when on walks. It's the kind and obvious thing to do for any breed. Jack Russells are the best dogs, though! (':
my dog uses a collar and there is nothing wrong with that.. if the does has a flat face like a pug or bulldog then they should wear a harness because those dogs has breathing issues.. but jacks are ok
@ckozdron they are not the same parsons are about 2" taller an have a longer nose . jack russel ? yes the same ? not so much . tempraments bit differnt 2
I had a dachshund. Putting a collar around his neck was the worst possible thing for him. Roseipk is correct. A harness is a much nicer way. If you don't believe it, then try putting a collar around your own neck and letting someone drag you around. Let me know how it feels.
@tarryhoot A harness should be used not a collar.....and yes it can choack them and damage them. How would you like your parents to drag you around like that??
Sorry but I have to disagree. Pulling on any dogs neck can seriously damage them. It can stop blood supply to brain, also other injuries. To train a dog you reward and praise....not drag it around.
@roseipk you have gone way to far, im guessing your a girl hence your name, so maybe you should go do something that NEVER involves dogs OR people, because i was just making a comment and you insulted me. you obviously dont know what GOODBYE means! You know, only a certain few can make me swear, and your right on the top of the list, so DONT TALK ABOUT MY JACKS! DONT TALK TO ME! AND DON'T FUCKING REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE!
@saizobacon Same as Lucy. I gave up on collars and use a harness. What I found is, if she pulls, I can give a harder sudden tug with the harness w/o hurting her. The suddenness of it gets her attention. Never could get her to walk loose leash w the collar. She kept choking herself and coughing. She's not interested in treats when on leash. She's too excited & happy about going for a walk.
Jack Russells are hard to train, but once they get it, they are awesome dogs. Took mine a while to understand right from wrong, but now he's great. Just turned one in October. JRs are the best doggies !!!
my jack russell has a harness, he slipped outta it once and nearlly got ran over, cos it was too small, MUCH BETTER THAN LEADS I RECOMMENDD EM!! MAKE SURE THEY FIT X
mine slipped out last week and did get run over. I miss him lots. houdini he was. glad yours made it and thanks for warning people cause jacks are very slippery dogs.
the person below me is right myy mini jack has a harness cos it choaks if u go out with jus a lead on a collor :/ feel soz 4 the puppys cos it probley hurts!
you could hurt them like that at 8weeks old they are very delicate and you are using collars when for small dogs you should use harness. I would never ever try this at least not at that age and not with a collar
My jack russell still can't walk on a leash correctly. He prefers just to run around the yard 8x
