  • What is WRONG with you commentators?!?

  • DId anyone else watch this video but thought it was gonna be a guy talking about his huge penis xD

  • well it is sad to see that some people will always be racist ,obviuosly this guy is not good at dundun but you dont have to be black or african or ignorant for better words to feel and love other cultures music so all you sorry ass mother fuckers need to go fuck yourself because in your mind you will always be a shitty racist unevolved piece of shit.just like there is white trash there will always be black trash fuck you.and i kept it clean bitches!

  • @BigSerg80 Racism includes White Supremacy as its key ingredient. It is a very specific system that is still in practical use today giving riches to Europe and America and taking blood and resources from Africa and many other places. Remember that Racism has a capital R, which means it is something very specific, which you obviously do not know. We want you to lay your greedy hands off our land, our riches, and our culture. There is nothing wrong with that. Once we can share as brothers, we will

  • @747t well obviously u r the racist you think im white because im not down with racism. In gods eyes no matter what you call him we are all his children.so what you have stated is just a non aggressive way of saying your a racist . im not white and im not greedy so go get with yo brothas go drink some malt liqour and continue blaming everyone else for your issues.fuck off ,while i set my mind free from the shackles of hate.

  • @BigSerg80 You just told me to get with my brothas and drink Malt Liquor. That is so offensive I can't even begin to tell you, but I think you know.If you want to lecture people about God's love and setting yourself free from hate you might want to start with yourself and avoiding comments like that. What you fail to realize is that white people have established a global monopoly on trade. They colonized all but 7 countries, and established a global system that is still in effect,to benefit them.

  • @BigSerg80 Now they love to capitalize on everything WE have said about putting hate down, in order to keep people from questioning the status quo. They use accusations of "reverse racism" and other lies to keep us from taking back or claiming what is rightfully ours. Black people have never been compensated for slavery, and Africans have never been set free from colonialism. The dictators tearing Africa apart right now are puppets, looting their countries for foreign (mostly white) businessmen.

  • @BigSerg80 You clearly lack an eye for detail and ears for truth. I pray that you grow up very soon to realize that not everything is as it seems. Loving each other does not mean not criticizing one another or questioning why one people are poorer than another by enormous margins. If you think we are this way because we deserve to be or because its the natural order, you are, by definition - a racist! THINK FOR YOURSELF.

  • Now stop trolling youtube. Your tone does not deserve respect and I will respond to you no further until you fix it. I am simply trying to educate you. If you are on a true search for truth and justice you will examine my words, search your own heart, and study. Peace!

  • @747t you are a moron dont come wif dat peace shit now,go fuck yourself

  • what the shits all this negative energy for, fellas? its just a guy playin a dun dun for presumably an educationl purpose for people "who probably otherwise wouldn't see/hear this."

  • 00:00

  • That camera needs a better mic. That drum probably sounds epic though!

  • To the dude that thinks he's the best drummer in the world . And to all those that think you are the best at whatever ..... Need i say more ? ... i'm trying to be polite .

  • @diceman2004 Actually you're the best drummer in the world. I'm second best, and coming up on third place LadyLibraNMore and fourth place Throbule. 'Thingy' up in the video comes fifth place because of his stripey shirt.

  • @unbeatableenergy Thats wicked .. i'm not even a drummer and now i'm the best .

All i'm saying is everybody thinks they are the best untill some 4 year old with pee stains on his pants does a show , looking at his parents thinking ( i wanna go home ) and then leaves the crowd with thier jaws dropped .

  • @diceman2004 ayup diceman, av got a drum at home - its a bit hairy and its got a sort of beaky thing sticking out of it? Its beaky. Ja know what it is? also what's the roundest drum you've ever seen and how round was it?

  • this drum make a headache lol

  • I can't understand it. I've got a casio beat box at home and it gots the two main African drumming beats and I've learnt to play them really well but neither of them sounds like what he's playing. Are there more than two African beats that one can play?

  • okay folks here it is...yes the piece is Kassa or a variation of it the dun is rattling on the chairs or sumin cos the audio is so crap its sad.as fer the guy playing ...granted he aint no mamady or farmadou but he is promoting west african percussion so kudos there and if ya want to learn just find a class and go from there...or you could get me to make you a set and i can give you decent skins rope and shells at staggeringly cheap prices

  • 808 hehe

  • dun dun

  • @predator101101 fucking dun dun, how do they work?

  • Well THAT was embarrassing. "expert" village is full of pathetic, delusional neanderthals embarrassing themselves. See the video entitled " Messed up vid from expert village "

  • BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!

  • Jokes aside - this man simply has nothing to offer a budding drummer.

When you go to this mans website you will see only videos and photos of Africans playing the drums he supposedly 'teaches'.

The Africans play magnificently of course and the site just looks like a travel agent and money spinner and has absolutely no celebration of drums or of Africa.

It would seem to be the usual cracker rip-off of a culture people like him can only dream of having.

Drum teacher my ass - charlatan more like.

  • @throbule and LadyLibraNMore

Since when did playing the drums become a strictly African requirement? This man does not proclaim to be African nor is he trying to convince non-African's to pretend to be African. He is simply playing a drum and explaining what he is doing! Get over it already!!!

Africans did NOT invent music nor did they invent drumming. I am proud that people all over the world are enjoying the benfits of my culture. You should be just as proud of yours! Racisim isn't needed!

  • @didgerikev:

    Well said that redneck hillbilly!...Lol!

I think you completely miss the point - I did not say that one needs to African to play any African drum, but this man is presented as some type of expert, but his efforts here are lamentable.

I have never heard this drum played in the way he plays, and to us, he is a joke.

But you are American too, so how could you understand?

You brew beer and seem to like the didgeridoo - get over it!

    In fact - didgeri -dont!

  • @didgerikev:

Oh, and I forgot to mention that actually, almost all drums and also the antecedents of almost ALL musical instruments either came from Africa, were invented in Africa, or have their history in Africa.

Just go study - we did! But then we are professional musicians and producers doing it for a living and teaching it too, so we need to know all that boring stuff.

  • @throbule

Yes you are sooo right, Africa is the source of "everything". Oh wait, then that means I am also African. Hmmm! Yeah I am an ignorant white(sorry, African) man? So being a professional musician makes you an "expert" on African culture? Funny, what makes you think I am a redneck? Do you know what a redneck really is? Besides, since you are a "professional" then why are you not putting your videos on here? At least he is trying. Color betrays race but we all have unique heritage.

  • @didgerikev

Oh, I love all of the eloquent comments from all of the "professional" musicians here. It is nice to see that they are so encouraging in their comments for any one who may be the least interested in playing or learning about the drums. You can criticize someone without making them look like a fool. But then again, being a "redneck" how would I know that. All rednecks want to do is bash and belittle all that they do not agree with. We never want to encourage guide with the truth.

  • 2) their works say it for them and the people who witness their work will also call them experts. Once THE PEOPLE say that you're an expert, THEN AND ONLY THEN YOU WILL BE RESPECTED AS AN EXPERT. Look at videos of the Apollo Theater in Harlem from the early 1990's and PRIOR so that you will gain familiarity with our standards of excellence : ) People such as Aretha Franklin, Anita Bell, Marvin Gaye & many TALENTS performed in the Apollo Theatre during those times & you can see their greatness

  • LOL girl you know damn well that cracka ain't got no bizness wit his damn hands on that drum.

Ima just say what you were too nice to say lol

  • Michael Markus is one of the best American African drummers there is. Just because he's not black and wearing a mudcloth tunic doesn't mean he's not an awesome drummer with a lot of knowledge. I wouldn't call you a racist, but you certainly are prejudiced. Google his name and listen to his performing music. You can't judge a beginner introduction video demonstration as a testament to one's skills.

  • LOL! Look at this Hiker64 w/an empty page...trying to school me on my people and my culture, as if I don't know who I am or what my people are about LOL!!!! What's next, are you going to tell me how to cornrow hair??? LOL!!!

THIS MAN IS NOT AN EXPERT AT PLAYING AFRICAN DRUMS. HE HAS NO SOUL/SPIRIT & HE HAS NOT IMPRESSED THE AFRICANS. THEREFORE, HE SHOULD HUMBLE HIMSELF.

Like your statement, his beat is shallow. He would be better off as an expert at beating the dust out of a worn rug.

  • The non-rapping duo being booed off stage at the Apollo Theater. If you don't pass our standards, you're not an expert...period!

  • @Hiker64

Correction: Enjoy the video of the non-rapping duo being booed off stage at the Apollo Theater. If you don't pass our standards, you're not an expert....period!

  • 1) LOL! This is hilarious! They have someone calling themselves an expert and (LOL!!! I'm struggling to complete the sentence) this is what he produces?! LOL! Listen, before you claim that my observation of your lack of skill is racist, take a lesson from someone like Teena Marie. WE RESPECT HER b/c she knows how to sing...with SOUL/SPIRIT...not because she's "white" & sings like us. If you want us to respect you then you must humble yourself. Africans don't call themselves experts b/c

  • that sounds great!!!

  • needs more cowbell

  • and less bullshit....

  • Why are you people such lick ass's?

You know as well as I do that this man is rubbish at playing, yet one even cites that Mamady Keita is married to a white woman in order to lend creedence to his arguement.

Playing African drums is NOT just about technique - it's far more about passion.

In Africa if you have no passion while playing, people simply will not come to listen.

The look on this guys face says everything.

  • I haven't met any drummers in Africa who talked about 'passion'. There's always a difference in someones style and grace, but djembe folas are primarily concerned with tone, slap and timing - take care of this and in time everything esle takes care of itself. To be honest, this guy is teaching, not performing, so it's not really relavant to bring 'passion' into it. He can clearly kick ass if he wants to. He's enjoying himself and his size has nothing to do with it. You're talking drivel.

  • unbeatableenergy - You are an outsider and so is he. what you say is a bit like someone having a chemistry set and thinking they know all about nuclear fission. It takes an African to play African drums properly. I know 10 year olds there who could play you all out of sight.

And size has everything to do with it.

A fat man will never do what a strong, fit, young man can do.

Go live in Africa and be prepared to be humbled.

    Different folks - different strokes.

  • I have lived in Africa and my opinion is shared by Africans. This isn't about me. Call me a crap drummer by all means - that doesn't offend me. Your crap about only Africans being able to play drums does. There are thousands of African drummers far better than this man but he's way better than many others. It's about how dedicated one is to learning - not skin colour or nationality. Anyone whose got a heart and a brain knows your talking a lot of rascist crap.

  • unbeatableenergy - You quote me incorrectly - how disengenius of you.

I said "It takes an African to play African drums properly" - no racism there but your response inferring racism is predictable and a stereotypical one from a white man.

If you, and others insist on putting your 'stuff' on youtube, you should be able to accept criticism as well as any plaudits you may get, otherwise you have no business being in this particular show.

  • If 'you and others' don't like the stuff 'we' put on (we're not pact you know) you don't have to watch it, but you clearly love to moan so I'm sure you have no intention in stopping. Since you've decided to talk about my qualifications, well.. hey.. I don't think I've actually said as yet that I'm an amazing djembe player, so what's all this lecturing me to go to Africa and be humbled. I already am!You seem to think that I don't know about the musicians you're talking about and indeed I do.

  • unbeatableenergy - And you clearly love to misquote and I'm equally sure you have no intention of reading and understanding properly what I write.

As i said, criticism is par for the course, but it is obvious you are a thinskinned sensitive, in which case you really do need to toughen yourself up a bit.

If you are the man in the video above, then your comments are understandable.

However if you are not he, then you are over egging the pudding.

  • Throbule I been travelling to Africa regularly for the past 16 years and if you look at the favourites saved on my channel I think you'll agree I'm not ignorant of the incredible talent out there. I'm humbled by African musicians but also the achievements of Western musicians. It stands to reason that you'll find more talent in Africa because the culture has had longer to flourish, but things are changing. The fat issue? He's got strength in his djembe playing and he's relaxed when he's got speed

  • unbeatableenergy - You can travel to Africa for 100 years but unless you connect with the spirit (not just the technique) of the drum, you are lost.

Unlike white people, Africans rarely talk about technique anyway - they just play and learn naturally on the hoof, and there is really no better way to learn.

BTW - the fat man has a new name - he is now called UNABLE (we just took the words beat and energy out of your ID and joined them together)....lol (sorry could'nt resist).

  • gosh so you did.. how clever. Use the letters in someones id and apply them to describe someone else they don't know. Well, what ever turns you on Throbule. I also can see a word in your id that better describes your character but I need to remember my age. Must dash now Throbule, work to be done.

  • unbeatableenergy - What a combination you seem to be - patronising and no sense of humor. Dry, but no intellect. Hmm, what fun you must be at parties.

Well, whatevers turns you off man.

I can think of many words that would describe you too but suffice it to say I have nicknamed you sphincter - you must admit, it has a certain ring to it....

Must dash now sphincter, life to live.

  • So as you can see I'm getting a few more 500 characters to finish what I have to say. Different folks different strokes i think you said. Show me some videos of players you wish impress upon me and I'll do the same. Are you one of these guys that mad about matcho muscle power djembe players.i'm curious because the 'strong fit young man' description seems to fit that bill. of course it's not the only style of playing in Africa as I'm sure you'll already know. Different folks different strokes.

  • unbeatableenergy - I'm not your researcher so find the vids for yourself.

Do I detect a hint of ridiculousness in your 'macho musclepower' line - hmmm, ok well I understand where your thoughts are.....LOL.

    My original comment stands.

Fat, flabby men can not do what a younger man can do with drums - did you not know that? And it is also accepted that all drums need stamina and power as well as passion, delicacy and artistic depth to play properly.

None of which the guy in the vid has.

  • I want to see this "expert" proclaiming his expertise to the Africans on Targee Street in Staten Island. I enjoy free comedy.

Perhaps he should bring that big drum to play so it will allow him plenty of room to manuever once they turn it becomes a part of his wardrobe. LOL!

  • @LadyLibraNMore:

Perhaps we should stuff his fat ass inside that big old drum of his and float him down the Niger or the Zambesi so the natives can throw stones at it.

I'm sure they will make better rhythm with rocks than he ever will with those big fat pudgy hams he calls his hands.

I've heard better sounds coming out of my cats asshole after a good curried chicken dinner than he will ever make.

    PS: Love your comments!

  • LOL! @ Your cat having better beats LOL! I'd pay 2see the filmed footage in theaters of Africans- who've been playing the drums since before they learned how 2 walk - reacting 2 this 'expert' LOL! I'd have 2 remind myself not 2 drink any liquids b/c I know how hard I will be laughing. If this drum is made in AFRICA by AFRICANS, it would be 2 ashamed 2 be seen floating on this man down the river & would disguise itself as a latrine. Even the crocodiles would be ashamed 2 eat him.

  • You critics sound very sad - lets see you do better then!!

For anyone in this world to enjoy, appreciate and try to learn or teach others, to play the wonderful rhythms of Africa and anywhere else should be encouraged!. There is no doubt that there are incredible players from Africa - but there are terrific western players also.

This music brings people together which has to be good for everyone, or are you saying we shouldnt enjoy it because we aren't from your country? Gimme a break!!!

  • That was cool man. I can play both djembe parts to Kassa. Don't worry about these wicked men with their racism. We give them everything we have, medecine, architecture, college, technology, BET and still some act this way. We make the world together. PEACE

  • Comment removed

  • How hilarious is this video! An amateur white man trying to teach people how to play African drums....LOL.

His technique is abysmal and he has about as much spirit as a porcupine.

Just watch his big fat face as he plays - even he knows he is rubbish!

I laughed so much I nearly fainted!

  • He's not an amateur.

  • Very nice. Cool drum and a cool beat...

  • Yeah, sound is a little bad, the real thing is much better. Does music belong to a "people"? If cultures kept their uniqueness to themselves we would have a boring world. No jazz, rock, classical, or reggae! I am not of African descent however if I were, I would be proud that "non-African" peoples were so excitedly willing to learn something from my culture! Music is the true common language we should all learn it and share it!

  • @didgerikev

"I am not of African descent."

I AM. So are many others on this page. So your hypothesis about what you would and wouldn't do is wrong because you don't know the culture. ALL of the AFRICANS are saying the same thing... this so-called 'expert' is a joke. He has no business publishing videos to teach anyone about African drums when he can't impress Africans. He needs to humble himself.

  • @LadyLibraNMore But you aren't African. And many Africans would laugh at your self-righteous attitude as they do many American born blacks. Nor are you a drummer, and so you can't understand the "language" of the drum that transcends race or gender. You're just an angry African-American, 'with' the hyphen, who feels that you own a culture which you had no choice, but to inherit.

  • @hiker64

LOL! Oh, so you're trying to be an expert on who I am LOL! Let me correct your ignorance. Teena Marie has impressed Africans, African- Americans and many other ppl of various backgrounds throughout the world with her talent. WHY???? BECAUSE SHE IS TALENTED. NOT because she's "white & can sing so-called 'black' songs." This man is NOT talented.

  • @hiker64

As far as your fantasy about me being an "angry African-American..." LOL! Allow me to correct you again... I am a happy woman that is proud of my heritage and culture. I am grateful that THE CREATOR saw fit to allow me to be born to parents with such a rich and complex history. If given the choice, I wouldn't trade anything. Furthermore, my DNA points to the Mende of Sierra Leone...trace the ancient heritage of the MENDE and find out WHERE on earth they ORIGINALLY come from...

  • @LadyLibraNMore I'm the best drummer in the world. The vicar said so when we did our annual African drumming performance for his parish summer fete at the Sandrington-wipsnade village Gala. Besides, he nearly dropped his cream scones and spilt his tea! I'm the best drummer in the world.

  • @hiker64

If I were YOU and I had a choice, then I would want to be LadyLibraNMore. But it is YOU who "had NO choice but to inherit" your history and rather than humble yourself to be a part of a peaceful world, you'd rather stir up "mess" with the intent of keeping people bitter and angry (did you notice that your childish tactics didn't work on me :) LOL!

    Peace!

(I know that it bothers you to see that 5 letter word LOL!)

  • Dear AFROPERC: Back in 1999,The late great SUNGALO COULIBALY told a friend of mine that one day the white people would be teaching the Africans how to play drums. Last year I was in Conakry studying with Mohammed Bangoura and Tonton Sylla and they both told me more or less the same thing. Africans are trading their culture for the money and comforts available in Europe, North America and Asia. Videos like this one seem to confirm everything these great musicians have said.

  • I can agree with that. I have seen the waves of western students come and are quickly taught by one that has good sound and techniuque but know traditional knowledge behind their teaching. Just Ballett, show, performance.. A great majority of us are something else before musican. Blessings

  • I believe the African drums belong to african people. Only us africans can feel the spirit of the drums. We can hear the drums speak to us and we can dance to the rhythm. I have seen drummers who beat those drums like there is no tomorrow and not know how they do it. It is in the Spirit.

  • The biggest masters of Djembe - Mamady Keita, Famadou Konate to name but a few - teach people of every race and colour all over the world and have been for years.Mamady Keita is married to a white woman who is extremely skilled as a djembe and doon doon player.Pass on this ideology of yours over to these guys and they'll laugh in your face. For decades, they've been promoting Djembe as something every single person in the world accomplish if they give it the time and effort.

  • . Ever observe that the majority of African instruments are not made or sold by Africans at all, but Asians & Europeans? Ever see the lists of African & Afro-Latin instructional materials? They are mostly White! The danger is that Africans will never benefit from their own resources or ideas because they are so preoccupied with trading economic furtherance for global acceptance.

  • All things that deal with Africa should be taught (at the highest levels), sold, produced, mined, & manufactured by Africans & anything else should be ridiculous. This will be the start of a better & prosperous Africa. These sell out thoughtless masters that you mention take the façade of global acceptance from the European as ample payment for the economic suppression of their own nations, which is exactly the mentality Europeans need to further rape Africa.

  • It is human nature to want to preserve ones people, language, & culture. Why is it required or expected of Africans (many times by other Africans) to assimilate & forget our values & ways, meanwhile the outsiders are learning them in droves & exploiting them as so called experts. Africans are the only people I know of that give jewels for smiles.

  • Wow that is racist. Take your statement above and replace 'Africa' with "USA" and replaced "Africans" with Americans and then replay it.

  • @hiker64

ROFL!!! Are you trying to school this man whose probably had his expensive car searched by 'white' police officers for "Driving While Black" on *your* side of town about racism??? Oh, so YOU are the expert of what racism is to this man who has lived through Rodney King, Abner Louima, Amadou Diallo, Sean Bell, Oscar Grant, etc. as well as heard the stories of his grandparents talk about Emmit Till, Medgar Evers, MLK, Malcolm X, etc???LOL!!! You are self-righteous and arrogant.

  • @unbeatableenergy, you and your kind can play that drum from here to timbuktu but will never feel the connection to it. We are trying to explain to you is that it goes way beyond playing for Africans and descendants of Africans. We feel a spiritual connection and reminds us of our ancestors. When the chinese and indian man shows respect for their drums nobody complains, but when the African man does it he gets ridiculed. I feel disrespected because the drums of my ancestors are sacred to me.

  • 1)Don't worry about them. They're arrogant. They will never secure the rhythm of the drum because they are too stubborn to realize what all of the AFRICANS are saying to them about it...there's more to our music than beating a drum on cue. They will find a "Michael McDonald of drumming" and then they will have the nerve to proclaim him as the best soulful African drummer ever (LOL). As usual, it will never compare with the source LOL! The very few "white" ppl that get this usually don't like

  • 2)being around other so-called "white" people. They prefer to be around US LOL! because we're not arrogant, we're not proclaiming to be an expert of someone else's cultural art, we're humble, talented, loving, kind, we have strong family values, strong faith etc.---all of the things that affect the rhythm of the drum : )

  • @analwartz4u Any man can play any instrument and feel connection to it . Of course its nonsense when white man for example is trying to connect African way. But if that non black man will get to know his own roots than he can play it his way. Example is that Darabuka (Arabian) can be played African style and Djembe (African ofc) can be played Arabian way.

And of course that player is terrible as always in expertvillage films...

    peace

  • @analwartz4u well now i feel disrespected man. just for a minute disregard this guy's lack of comfort and conviction on the drum. i'm white (irish heritage), and i do feel a spiritual connection to african drums. and i don't think anybody should be ridiculed or put down for that. we're all descendants of africans, and people with any color skin have the capacity to play passionately.

  • fuck i was stoked on this video until i saw it was from expert village. DONT TRUST EV. seriously they're people arn't good.

  • Ye Gods I would love to have heard the bass on that in the flesh and not on the mic - thats the kind of drum you need to feel pulse through you.

  • i bet your enjoying that , i know i would..:P

  • Not bad brother... I like the players who understand how to improvise. Blessings and respect.....

  • that is not how the dun dun should sound. the drums are meant 2 say something

  • The language is long gone brother. With the influence of the west, drummers in W. Africa are just jazz musicans now improving. Besides the traditions that require the most strict learning are not popular. They're kept in the famliy blood lines. Be cool and blessings.

  • Comment removed

  • stay positiive brother. There are people in this world that study as much or harder than anyone of us. Be cool, let others have their point of veiw and don't be quick to lose the mutual respect that binds us all.

  • u are talking of talking drums..

  • man... first, tune your drum. second, you're right. in traditionaly play kenkeni shouldn't play variations, sangban can play but the pattern gives a character to the rhythm, and dununba can variate almost all the time. sorry for my english :)

but you explain this stuff a way better than me :)

    bless

  • first, he is playing in small room and second they have got realy bad mic for this kind of stuff. I doubt that the real sound of this dun dun is even close to the sound in this video :) ...

  • man stop causing waves. the bother obviously has studied enough to know something. Just calm down and let brohters play and teach what they can. I know more africans that are faking more than anyone.....

  • i hate the drums

  • Dundunba is a rhythm... dun dun is the big drum. Kenkeni is the small drum, sangban is the middle drum the set together is referred to as "dun duns".

Nice to see expert village put something up by an expert. This guys name is Michael Markus and he knows his s***. He is a monster on djembe and a great teacher.

  • I thought that was called the "Dun Dun Bah"?
