  • The mac mini is even easier. There is a thunderbolt port which you can use and also a hdmi port you can use. You will just need to buy an adapter for the thunderbolt port.

  • i clicked on the add on the side on your video 40 times does that give you money?

  • software i'm sorry xD

  • does this adapter work with the newest macbooks/hardware? please answer, cuz i won't buy it if it doesn't :)

  • I think that MacBook Pros have DisplayPort 1.2 ports on them, so you don't need to use this external GPU thing, you can just get an adapter that splits DisplayPort to three DVI ports and use that instead. I can't link to stuff in YouTube comments, but you should be able to find one on NewEgg

  • THE SOLUTION OF THE LAGGY OF THE SCREENS IS THAT USB PORTS ARE NOT MADE FOR VIDEO RESOLUTION.. ITS BETTER TO CONECT THE ORIGINAL SCREEN TO THE OTHER ONE AS SERIES.

  • I'm thinking about getting one for my macbook air. Does this thing make your fans go crazy? Or does it heat up your computer???

  • anyone want to buy mine for $50 let me know. it's useless for me.

  • @barccat YESSSS MEEEEE wait which one the two monitors or the mac? ;) jk is it the 2 monitors?

  • too bad you FORGOT to mention this only is currently compatible with 10.4 and 10.5 and no newer iMacs, powerbooks, and mac hardware... thanks a lot for me wasting $69 since I run 10.7

  • @barccat It did pop up in the video when he showed the driver downloads, but still, he didn't actually say it so I feel your pain

  • Does this work with a mini mac?

  • @gassygiants And what are ur monitors???

  • great video i've been trying to find out how to do just this. I sometimes have to use the zoom function as my eyesight isn't the greatest. how well does this setup work when using the zoom please?

  • 77777 vieuws...

  • How did you get the dock on the middle monitor?

    Great video!

  • The Dock appears on the middle monitor because the Apple menu bar is set to the middle display and the Dock position is set to the bottom of the screen.

To select which monitor has the Apple menu bar when more than one display is connected:

    1. Go to Apple menu > System Preferences.

    2. Click Displays, then Arrangement.

    3. Click and drag the bar between the display thumbnails to set the Apple menu bar.

    To set the Dock position:

    1. Go to Apple menu > Dock and select "Position on Bottom".

  • @PavleP1

System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement

You will notice a menu bar symbol on the top of one of the pictures of the monitors. Drag that to the monitor that you want the dock and menu bar to be on.

  • Do computer monitors come with the connecting cable

  • How many gigs of ram do you have?

  • @TheMexicanNerd how did you set it up so that the dock and stuff is on the first monitor and not on the macbook screen,

Anyone else know what im taking about and knows how to do it, please let me know, thanks

  • So does he need a total of 2 of those things? or just 1? the first monitor is connected just with HDMI and the second one need that external video card thing? or both screens need the external video card thing?

  • @lighteningxl One screen goes connected to your laptop's VGA and this device gives you the capability to connect the second monitor.

  • @mauriciogon1167 can you help me with 1 more question? does the Gigaware® 2-Port USB Powered VGA Splitter do the same thing??

  • @lighteningxl someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think that a VGA splitter just duplicates the same image that's being put out. So you connect this to a laptop then you would ultimately have three displays but two would be showing the same image.

  • @mauriciogon1167 Because that splitter, is a USB powered VGA splitter. i am wondering if the USB power does that mean its powering a video card or something so it can link up to 2 more screens, i am totally green on these things. So dont wanna waste $60 before i get everything clear

  • @lighteningxl Oh I see... Today I purchased a usb to vga adapter and it has a box-type thing in between. I think that the idea behind this adapter is that it's an external graphics card so that it can run that third display. I dont know if I confused you with my last comment but I am not familiar with a "VGA splitter".. we might be talking about the same thing but I'm just not sure..

  • @mauriciogon1167 I have no idea, i don't know anything about these so i guess i will just go and ask in the shop. The splitter that i talked about, also need a USB power and has a tiny box. I have no idea if there is a video hard in there or not. But the difference is just only $20 so i guess doesnt make much difference

  • @mauriciogon1167 sorry i cant post that link but just wondering, cos Gigaware® 2-Port USB Powered VGA Splitter looks pretty similar and its half the price.... and higher resolution at 2048x1536. So i am just wondering if anyone know, they do the same function

  • Nice background of Hong Kong! Makes me miss home. :P

  • I feel bad for that macbook pro. He might as well jut be doing dual screen from a iphone.

  • CAN IT HANDLE MINECRAFT??

  • Hey, just wanted to say THANK YOU. Seriously, I have been on the phone with several different reps from Best Buy, Apple, etc not to mention stopped into stores asking people how to do this and NO ONE could help. Your setup is exactly what I wanted and works great. I appreciate you taking the time to post this on youtube. Thank you!!

  • What moniters do you have?

  • Joinha quem veio do MacWordBrasil!

  • Thanks so much i have been searching for a video like this and you have brought it to me thanks. i went out and bought the Adapter and it has been working great so far thanks again. Really appreciate it.

  • What do u do for sound? Are those pc monitors or hd tv's? Nice setup man. I'm also thinking about running an extra monitor with my MBP but not sure whether to get a hd tv or pc monitor. Wanna play my ps3 on it too but the resolution won't look as good on a hd tv with my MBP than a pc monitor.

  • @KimCheeHuu sound comes out of the speakers of the laptop or if you have speakers, they come out of where they ae set up in relevance to you

  • I got one question? Does this monitor on the left still gonna be laggy if you will use USB adapter and only monitor on the left?

  • I recently set up this same rig and it works well. The monitor running off the BVU195 adapter shows a little lag or jerkiness if I’m dragging a window around the screen, but otherwise it is fine, even video is smooth—it’s only when you start moving things around that you notice anything but that is not a problem in the least. This is a really nice setup and performance is good. I’m on a 2011 MBP i7 with 8 GB RAM running the latest Lion (10.7.2 as of today).

  • Great video! One question: were you able to also use the MacBook display and turn it into a 3 screen rig?

  • @marchwill5 I'm actually curious about this as well

  • @Themexican maybe with a i7 it runs with out lag

  • THIS IS VERY NICE!!

i have 15" macbook pro unibody intel core 2 duo and i use 27" cinema display, i wondering if i bought 1 more 27" cinema display can i do this set up with usb adapter pro? thanks :)

  • hey can you tell how do I get the display on teh 2nd monitor? I plugged it in and then installed the driver and then what?

  • I want this video on my Xelibri 8 phone.

  • Sick!

  • How did you keep the same desktop background when running the hdmi adapter from your mac book pro to your TV? Everytime I plug the in the hdmi adapter my desktop background automatically changes to the galaxy one. Please help :)

  • Really detailed vid. I think buy one. Thanks!

  • i love you!!!!!!!!!!!

  • yay it's hong kong!!

  • Thanks

  • how much did the whole setup cost ya

  • dual head 2 go...

  • How do you achieve the full resolution? I'm not utilizing at least an inch on both sides of my screen. I have MacBook Pro 15" and using 2 Dell ST2420L 24" monitors.

  • Nice set up. I'm on windows and I'm wondering if I could use my laptop screen AND external monitor for two combined monitors.

  • can you still use the macbook pro as a third screen, or as your primary screen, and the other two are just additional screen??

  • This vid is a favorite on Solomon Islands

  • y do need to mods

  • Thanks so much for the video. Took me a bit of time to find you - but this was perfect.

  • Or you could just buy an alienware laptop for the same price and have 3x better specs, a way better looking laptop and just plug in an hdmi and be done in less then a minute

  • Great video. Answered all my question. Nice to have dual 1080p monitors.

  • Nice video.. Just one question....

PHOTOSHOP... when you open the"images" OR "50% Grey" on the laptop, does it look the same colour when you move to another two screen?

I know some that need two graphic cards to mtch the same colour..but ONE graphic card on your macbook pro... interesting to know how it turn out...

  • nice vid dude

  • You are my lost brother!!

  • GUYS is the macbook pro good for gaming? or shud i wait for the razer blade?

  • or you could use a duel dvi to dvi setup...

  • This will burn out your GPU in time.

  • @ImperialArmour no it won't, the adapter is essentially a really small graphics card. The left monitor doesn't go through the macbooks Gpu at all, Hence why the left screen is alot laggier than the right screen. it's running on a lot less powerful card.

  • @ImperialArmour You would definetly need a more advanced GPU than a macbook can offer.

  • @ImperialArmour Not correct.

  • @ImperialArmour I don't think you understand electronics well. The on board GPU is not handling the second external monitor. This is fairly standard practice if you need more than two or three monitors on a desktop. You can't play games on the USB video card monitor, but this is a mac, so it's only for development and work in most cases.

  • @ImperialArmour How quickly?

  • @ImperialArmour how?

  • @JoveroIV Basically your putting more stress on it by running multiple displays.

  • love your channel!!

  • Great review! One of the best reviews on youtube :), answered a lot of questions I've been going over in my head for a while now : )

  • are you mexican?

  • can you use a vga splitter from the mindisplay port?

  • wait, so now for the new macs, we are forced to buy the thunderbolt display because the mini-display port is gone yea? or is there any other thing that i could use the thunderbolt display port to plug to use other monitors?

  • So if only want to use this for just 1 display, i am assuming i will have the mac dock in the 1 external display. Am i correct? And can i also shut my macbook and still have the monitor running? Thanks!

  • THANK YOU! I've been scouring the internet for this.

  • Why doesn't this work for me :-(

  • great movie, cheers for the help :)

  • Maybe the lagging left monitor may be due to you using an USB adaptor instead of a 'direct' cable. I'd say the lagging comes from the adaptor.

  • hey. i just bought a macbook pro 15inch. i been using a pc with dual screens and now i want to hook my mac book pro to the dual screens. i asked in the apple store and they did not know how to do it. please could u drop me a message please. thanks

  • Hey, Hi, can u explain me the thing u said about the 2 graphics integrated on the MBP 15' and 17'. I mean, what i have to do to not scew up the adapter ? ( i have a MBP 15' 2010) Thanks, Good vibes.

  • Hey! Great videos you make man!

    - Do the CPU use extra power to run the USB graphics? Do the Mac run warm? Could you maybe, write a bit about this?

Thanks! :) And keep up with your videos - They are great :)

  • Hey. This was really clear and helpful. Thanks a bunch for posting it. Follow me on twitter! I'm a indie filmmaker. @mothtoflame.

  • nice vid

  • does it work on mac mini?

  • The reason why the left one lags is because the monitor is connected by usb and the right monitor is connected by thunderbolt

  • what kind of power is in that exernal vid card? please speak in "invidia language". just wondering.

  • I now a better way to connect it for a cheaper way

  • Hey im thinking about getting a set up like this i already have an mini display port cable and im probably gonna get one of those usb display adapter for a triple monitor set up like yours, but could you show us your system preferences> displays> Arrangement just for a look at that?

  • awesome

  • Very cool setup! I can't wait to get my monitor Tommorro I m going hook up my Macbook pro and ps3 slim! Great job!

  • Very very cool! This is exactly what I needed to see. Thank you so much nerd :)

  • You can set desktop backgrounds for EACH monitor, individually. Go to System Preferences>Desktop & Screen Saver>Desktop and you will have a separate window in each monitor where you can make your settings for that specific monitor. Pretty cool, huh?

  • does this work with lion?

  • @ClanReckless I bought one after seeing this video. Turns out that you need extra support (check displaylinkdotorg) if you want this to work on Lion. It won't let me post url's here so let me know if you're looking.

  • could you of used hdmi ??

  • I watched this video and purchased the Diamond BVU195. I just purchased 2 23'' monitors and was wondering what resolution you were using. This is a great video. They should use it to sell this item.

  • You are the best. I have found the answer on how to do this. Thanks for the helpful video. Kudos to you.

  • Nice video

  • Thanks for the help! how much about did this cost?

  • Screw desktops, I need a monitor to connect to my macbook and a kick-ass keyboard and mouse!

  • Really works well, thanks for all the great info

  • i like the effect that your setup does when you move a window to another screen...if u understand what i meant

  • I have the same setup and I like it. Like the video shows there is a bit of lag at times, most notably when using expose or video. Works with lion. Really no complaints.

  • Finally, an answer I needed ... I can't wait to do this and I'm so glad you posted this!!! Thanks again!

  • Hey if i get this would it also work on boot camp coz i will would use this on my flight simulator. Would it work??

  • Great video. Thanks. Any idea if this adapter works with OSX Lion?

  • @farlandlee

yes, running this on lion now.

  • thank you for the great video Man! very helpful! keep helping us... thanks

  • @MrVaggan Im glad I helped you out.

  • @TheMexicanNerd where did you get that background for your laptop??? i am curious as to where you found that!

  • can u drag web pages too the right screen on ur pro??

  • @DeejayCassette1 Yea I can. So I basically have three monitors.

  • have you tried spaces using spaces across the monitors? I'd like to have one monitor for my windows VM and one for the osx. Do you think it would work?

  • @bensycamore No I haven't tried spaces yet but I will.

  • @TheMexicanNerd - How did you go with using "spaces"?? This is the big seller for me... Would be perfect if you had your same set-up in this vid, but then also had the "macbook" (or even the "middle" monitor) acting as a a screen which still supported the use of "spaces".

Let me know how you go with this... VERY keen to find out!

  • i like how ur ok with everything and dont b!tch n whine bout anything.. subscribed! hope to see more vids from u.

  • @miker2209 lol Thanks for subscribing man.

  • Can you still use your macbook's monitor as a 3rd display ?

  • @JoachimLindkvist Yea I can

  • nice wallpaper of victora harbour in HK!

  • @nao921 Thanks!

  • what about the resolution. the mac book pro is hd, not a full hd and U connect two ASUS monitors than have a full resolution?

  • great setup and good info. thanks.

  • @1337likethat Thanks, glad you like it.

  • does it give you lag ?

  • Does this basically work as a 3 monitor setup? Meaning the two external, and your Pro monitor all working simultaneously.

  • @xCIHIRIS Yea all three monitors work at the same time. I can drag windows through all three monitors.

  • Comment removed

  • Question for you. Does your MacBookPro see your second monitor as one in display preferences? Did you have to do anything special in your system preferences? Thank you for the video. I am going to buy one of these.

  • @sc2performance Yea it sees the monitor as a second monitor. Didn't have to do anything, it just did it automatically.

  • @Spaarlampje Thanks! I really like it. Just need some good speakers.

  • Wow, that was a really quick sign in :P

  • @jonathanredford

Insanely quick... I guess there is no porn on his comp lol

  • @jonathanredford lol yea I had to cut it out in editing because I showed my password.

  • how much would that lag on the second screen be a problem if i wanted multiple screens for using programs like logic?

  • i have just got a splitter and i am trying to find out how to make both my monitors work. i have 1 external monitor working but i dont no how to get the other monitor working. i no its somewhere in system preferences

    can you help?

  • Thanks for this video. I've had that problem with my 17" MBP where it would just freeze.

  • thanks!

  • @williamstart123456 yes you can, if you connect one thunderbolt to your mac, then the other to the display ( 1) then you connect the second display to number 1, and number 1 is connected to the mac

  • Did you set up your displays to "mirrored"? I can not seem to move pages from the right hand monitor to the left..........

  • Can i only connect Asus VE248H Monitor or can i use Dell monitors?

    - Thanks

  • thanks vato loco. just bought the adapter... we'll wait and see! thanks for the vid.

  • where did you get that background image of HK? Dope

  • @asaavedra78 I don't remember, its been a while. You could probably google dual monitor hong kong wallpaper and find it.

  • Can't seem to get the Diamond BVU195 USB Display Adapter in the UK which is annoying

  • @philbaileyTV there are different brands of these which are DisplayLink certified, i found out that the Kensington Universal Multi-Display Adapter was pretty much the same version as this only it's from UK, gonna buy one for £50 :)

  • oh shit thats sick

  • Comment removed

  • subbed.

  • whered you get that SICK hong kong wallpaper?

  • I like your editing. Good work Mexican Nerd! :)

  • @bobbykenobe hey buddy :)

  • DualHead2Go??? haha sounds like a good blow job there!

  • How did you hook up the apple keyboard and magic mouse? Does the monitors provide bluetooth? If it does, i'm going to get it! (:

  • @VoguishArts The keyboard and mouse are connected to the macbook and the monitors are connected to the macbook

  • @dalynthesk8r I was wondering because I am going to purchase a Mac Mini and I later found out that it provides bluetooth for the mouse and keyboard.

  • @VoguishArts All macs provide OOB bluetooth connection for the keyboard and mouse

  • @dalynthesk8r yeh, at first I didn't know that the mini did.

  • I'm just testing my Diamond BVU195 USB display adapter, it's quite laggy but it's awesome having 2 dell 27" 1900x1200, the principal connected directly to the macbook (late 2008 not unibody 17", lion)

i'm currently seeing this video in full screen and is quite smooth , instead expose it's laggy, i haven't switched off my graphic card (so i think they updated those drivers)

  • That's why USB isn't a good solution for having a third monitor, USB isn't powerful enough to handle the display. The lag with expose for both is just because 13" macbook pros don't have very good Video Cards, a 17" macbook pro would have sufficient VRam to cope with such video performance.

  • Thanks for the video, good demo on dual monitors on macbook pro!

  • Just bought the DualHEad2Go DP edition and I HATE IT. I makes one large screen instead of 2 monitors and does not work with the macbook closed. Returning tomorrow and going to this option. Have you seen any better Display Adapters since you made this vid???
