I actually like the tragic ending more than the regular ending believe it or not. Snake showed real emotion when he realized that Meryl was dead. Then Hal gave a great speech. The way both of them continued on in life even though both their loves where dead showed true courage and strength. I also liked how both of them had true life changing experiences. Anyways that's just what I thought. Thanks for listening.

I never played MGS, but I did watch the entire MGS2 game on youtube... i'm very interested in this series now, even though I can't play it or know anything about it. I still need to watch this one and also #3 (which is about "Big Boss", right?)... i've heard mixed things about the Twin Snakes version so I don't know if I should watch that or the original.
Start with the original version, then you can start with the remake. You'll understand it better that way. If you don't have a PSOne console, you can get the PC version of Metal Gear Solid Integral.
reagrdless of which ending is better, this video is trying to show what MGS is about, but if you really want to see what it's about, watch the ending cutscene of MGS3:SE. one of the best endings i have ever seen of any game.
People seem confused. "Hal and Dave" is a reference to the book/films 'A Space Odyssey'. Hal is the computer and Dave is one of the protagonists. They go to Jupiter, hence "Let's take a Trip to Jupiter". That's what they're laughing about.
There may be other parallels in the stories but I don't know A Space Odyssey well enough to tell you what they are.
I personally prefer this ending to the meryl one (something like this needs a sombre finish), why is any male bonding considered gay?
ImposingSnail, let me inform you about two things: #1- In the "Otacon ending", the "Hal and Dave" joke is a refference to the movie '2001: Space Oddyssey'. #2- In the "Meryl ending", the relationship between Meryl and "David" resembles that relationship between Meryl Silverburgh and "Dave Forrest" from the game 'POLICENAUTS'.
I'm pretty sure he would have checked her pulse or something dude, also, Otacon is saved in the Meryl ending. They both decide to do different crap that's different from Metal Gear Solid 2's history
none of the endings seem canon the one that seemed canon was when snake and meryl escaped since otacon did live in that ending too but before 4 was revealed i though this ending was canon since otacon was alive and a main character in MGS2 and there was no hint about meryls fate intill MGS4

Jack is a Nickname for John, or the other way around. And Solid snake (Mgs1,2,4) is different from Naked Snake/Big Boss (Mgs3,4).
John is the main guy in 3, the "father" of solidus, liquid and solid himself.
Solid - Son

OMG! In this 1, its solid snake (david) in mgs twin snakes (1) (which is just a remake for this one on gamecube) its solid snake (david) in mgs 2, its solid snake after the outer heaven conflict (david) in mgs 3 its a whole new storyline back in time in solid snake's father's lifetime (naked snake aka big boss) and his name is john. Big boss (mgs 3) later came to (explained in the original crappy graphics original metal gear games) betray his country and takes over outer heaven.

I assumed it wasn't his real name, which is why I thought it was funny. I never played MGS, but I did watch the entire MGS2 game on youtube... i'm very interested in this series now, even though I can't play it or know anything about it. I still need to watch this one and also #3 (which is about "Big Boss", right?)... i've heard mixed things about the Twin Snakes version so I don't know if I should watch that or the original.

reagrdless of which ending is better, this video is trying to show what MGS is about, but if you really want to see what it's about, watch the ending cutscene of MGS3:SE. one of the best endings i have ever seen of any game.

People seem confused. "Hal and Dave" is a reference to the book/films 'A Space Odyssey'. Hal is the computer and Dave is one of the protagonists. They go to Jupiter, hence "Let's take a Trip to Jupiter". That's what they're laughing about.
There may be other parallels in the stories but I don't know A Space Odyssey well enough to tell you what they are.
I personally prefer this ending to the meryl one (something like this needs a sombre finish), why is any male bonding considered gay?

ImposingSnail, let me inform you about two things: #1- In the "Otacon ending", the "Hal and Dave" joke is a refference to the movie '2001: Space Oddyssey'. #2- In the "Meryl ending", the relationship between Meryl and "David" resembles that relationship between Meryl Silverburgh and "Dave Forrest" from the game 'POLICENAUTS'.

none of the endings seem canon the one that seemed canon was when snake and meryl escaped since otacon did live in that ending too but before 4 was revealed i though this ending was canon since otacon was alive and a main character in MGS2 and there was no hint about meryls fate intill MGS4

The "Snake" you control in 'Metal Gear Solid 3' is actually Solid Snake's father...Naked Snake (later known as Big Boss). Liquid Snake, Solid Snake and Solidus Snake are all clones of Big Boss, who used to be called 'Naked Snake'. Do you undertsnad now ?
