There isn't only one way to educate. Just because our generation plays video games doesn't mean we are wasting our life away. Everything needs to be taken in moderation.
@kungpow108 Even then, we have the greatest educational medium ever made in human history, you would imagine that kids now would all be genieses with all the eons of free knollege out there
Yeah Feen man none of it is your fault, when the kids get dumber its all because of the media. Feeny likes to take all the credit, but never ever will he take the blame, what a pompous ass
Back in the good ol days. When you actually learned a lesson from television, even though that was still rare in itself at the time. But, damn. That was the biggest punk I've ever witnessed, and completely warranted, props to the actor and writer for this scene.
Everytime Mr. Feeny says something of wisdom and moral value, I cry, because of how amazing he really is. Back when I was a child, I thought he was the enemy. Now I see he is nothing more than the greatest hero anyone can ask for. Long live Mr. Feeny, the wisest and most intelligent caring man in the world.
@EsAnasoonaOva I don't care for their new shows either but its important to remember Boy Meets World was only aired on the channel as a syndicated show. Unlike HM, BMW was made for ABC, not the Dinsey channel. Different demographic.
Amen, FEENY!!! Wish there was a show with another Mr. Feeny-esque principal/teacher! Miss it and, you know what? I donj't have a Facebook, or a MySpace, or anything else that is draining the brain cells out of kids today...(the ones who don't know how to use it that is)..and I DO thirst for a book every so often! Thank you, Mr. Feeny! I think this show nad your words slowly but surely put in me a thirst forknowledge...and maybe a little SuperMario..;)
Little known fact: Mr. Feeny braved a Jap banzai charge at Iwo Jima, held back the Reds at Incheon, and slit Charlie's throat at Khe Sanh......before becoming a school teacher in 1990, thus explaining his infinite wisdom throughout the series.
This kind of boring, old man rhetoric makes me hate the older generation. Like his parents weren't saying almost the exact same crap when he was a kid. Shame on you Feenie.
@SweetAwesome22 Thanks. What are you 15, 16? I'm old enough to have heard this same shit over and over. The fact that the writers think they are being cleaver here is the most annoying aspect of all.
@Trollioli You sire are a pathetic, ungrateful, and unloved 40 year old loser. It's people like Mr. Feeny that make me respect older generations, because the new generation doesn't know how to use the power of current technology to good use, while back then, they had less techonology, but better application to the world, thus they had more character developed in them than most people will ever have in today's world. And if you tell me that this is all bullshit here, then you have no insight.
@roamer45 Starting off an argument with an insult doesn't give your point much merit. Back when the written word started to become more wide spread the "learned" people were saying that with the ability to look things up that people would forget things. This is the same tired argument that you will be using later on in your life when you get old and kids have brain computers and such. This isn't new, this isn't even clever. It's a boring old man sitting on his porch yelling at kids.
@Trollioli I stand corrected by my statement. And it also sounds to me like you have lost all hope in this world, like there's nothing any of us can do to make the world a better place. If we all had your attitude, all hope would be lost in the world. So stop being a damn pessimist and also think about the fact that Mr. Feeny is actually trying to help people, not yell at them. Oh and as well, don't judge me just because of my first statement benig an insult, read the whole post before you judge
@roamer45 Oh I read it. For some reason you people are touched by this drivel. Remember that this is a tv show, and a bad one at that. A group of writers sat around a table and tried their best to make the younger generation feel bad. Not to say that the older generation isn't spouting this same nonsense all the time. Go out and listen to some cranky old curmudgeon. You will hear the same crap. It's like they went to a retirement home and set up a tape recorder.
@Trollioli And how exactly is this drivel. You want drivel, watch "Hannah Montana" or "Jersey shore" . Those Tv shows have nonsense in them. It is shows like Boy meets world which show what the real world is really like. Besides cranky is actually helpful, sure they may be a little crazy, but they're actually teaching us how to appreciate the older generations, to know how it wasn't easy for them to get to where they are right now. To make us wiser than most people of today.
I get where Feeny is coming from in this clip but seeing how I'm interested in all things pop culture and want to become a journalist to write about it I most respectfully have to disagree with him.
Damn. This has to be my new favorite clip from this show. Why did it have to go? This show was funny, but it knew when to be serious and teaches much better lessons than how to get vampires to fall in love with you.
When he said "Sit down," I couldn't help but think about when Feeney was in 1776 the musical and everyone sang to him, "SIT DOWN, JOHN! SIT DOWN, JOHN!" over and over again.
I agree with Mr. Feeney... I'm surprised that I've never seen this episode myself! But what people need to realize here is what he's saying is quite simple: entertainment is all good and well, but improving the way we entertain ourselves shouldn't be at the forefront of everything we do. We still have work to do. We have to find that balance between improving the way we work AND the way we play, simultaneously.
If you watched this series start to finish, this should be a VERY powerful moment for you. Mr. Feeny is the teacher we all dreamed about having and what every teacher should strive to be.
Now wait a second Feen man. Public High Schools often teach stuff that is as useless in the real world as Simpsons or Mario trivia. See this is the problem with some educators when the kids get dumber they say oh my it must be the media and video games. It never occurs to them its the education system thats letting them down. Because you see that would mean they are to blame, but just like negligent parents its better to blame others.
haha those kids were talkin to kitt lol id be funny for somone to spoof this show and have the voice box on the chalk board bitchen attem . lol wow im gonna just shut up now lol but i remember this and few other things he was in watchng kr for so many years when id actually see the dude it kind weirds you out then u think up stupid shit like this lol
This youtube clip has seriously affected my life and how I use the internet, so thank you for posting it. My friend showed it to me while putting a presentation together for a Sociology class. Ever since I've used the internet to look-up source documents on things I'm curious about and often can double-check facts on multiple sites. I know there's a lot of misinformation, but there are realiable sites or ways of reliably fact-checking the sites. It really is the world's largest library.
This is a great clip.....I remember seeing it the first time a few years ago and it stuck with me. Anyone know what happened at the end of this episode? Thanks
@justjessii It's only syndicated on Disney- it was originally on ABC. But I guess ABC and Disney are co-owned, or used to be, or something. But still...
You know what the funny thing is... This episode is from 1997! And we still have the same problems 13 years after. I can't stress enough the importance of an education, but people rather look at the outward appearance, the latest technology...etc. That's a shame we haven't changed in 13 years, farther more, we have gotten worse.
He is exactly right. 30 years ago you never saw someone researching on the internet for something. It was an encyclopedia at a library. You never searched for a book electronically, you used a card catalog. I'm only 22 but I definitely understand what his point is.
Feeny was right. If anything, they were wasting what they had. They turned a smart intelligent show into nothing but a joke. Instead of finding out who wrote The Declaration of Independence, they find out Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego. Instead of finding out who freed the slaves, they find out the members of Guns N'Roses. If anything, they have brilliant minds and they are simply wasting it on pop culture. I don't blame Feeny for being disgusted.
I gotta disagree. yeah the education system is screwed but lets be real. in the end its on the kids.
in other countries their facilities are inadequate...and yet THEY DO BETTER THEN US........why? because the kids dont care. And why do they dont care because the society doesnt champion intellect.
Why? Because we dont want intelligent ppl... we want obediant workers. just smart enough to run the machines and just dumb enough to accept the bullshit.
the real irony here is that we're all wasting time on youtube watching this clip, NOT using technology for better pursuits - oh no, I've gone cross-eyed.
Watching this clip could possibly inspire some to further pursue their education. so you cant really use that kind of logic. despite all the retardedness of youtube, you can find educational stuff on here as well.
Then it just wasnt for you..... you have to WANT to learn new things... if you feel you have learned all you need to make the life you want then you dont need college.
Doesn't matter how much you want to learn something, if it's beyond your intellectual capacities then it's a waste of your time, effort, and money, you'll never succeed in it. Lack of intelligence wasn't my problem, but I'm just pointing out how absurd your comment here is. Motivation is important, but it's not the be all end all.
Thats what I call a lame excuse. There are people who are learning disabled... or suffer all forms of mental set backs that get their college degree. Your so called "intellectual capacities" argument is fundamentally flawed. Your intellectual capacities are determined by your determination to learn new skills. To say "Its just beyond me" is something a quitter would say.
You're living in a dream world buddy. Just cuz some people can overcome learning disabilities doesn't mean everyone the world over can get a degree in any damn thing they want. There are limits to intelligence, whether you want to believe it or not. Simply trying harder isn't going to make up for that in everyone. College isn't for everybody.
Again, motivation/determination, while important, does not count for everything.
True that college isnt for everyone... however to assume that one is not smart enough to learn something shows a complete lack of determination and out right lazyness. If you try and try and try and just cant grasp after several attempts and then have come to believe it is beyond your abilities then thats rational. But just to conclude without trying or trying half-assed then you are stupid but not because your brain doesnt work but because you have no confidence in yoru potential.
I never made that assumption, and didn't mean that anyone should come to the conclusion that something is beyond them without putting forth an honest effort to learn it.
i don't agree with this comment at all. for example, i am not an extremely intelligent person at all, but through motivation and busting my hump for six years, i am finally going to Oxford University next year. people who use intelligence as an excuse are just afraid to exert themselves for fear of failure. don't let fear keep you back, or use any excuse. go for your dreams.
Getting into college is one thing, being successful once there is an entirely different beast. Talk to me in 4-5 years.
Also, a lot of people have a tendency to sell themselves short. They actually are exceptionally smart, but downplay that in favor of hyping their work ethic, or they're simply too modest to be conscious of their superior intillect.
you know what? i completely agree. i agree that there are people out there who do not show their entire potential in their lives. i was not trying to exclude those who do not go to college from being considered smart, i was just trying to make the statement that even if you are not extremely intelligent, you can become knowledgebale. hard work and luck can get you to many places. i interned in congress this past summer. hard work is important. that's all i was trying to say.
"people who use intelligence as an excuse are just afraid to exert themselves for fear of failure."
And I find this assertion to be pretty insulting. What do you say to the kid who honestly does try his absolute hardest, works as hard as he can, but still just can't seem to do better than maybe a C? There are a LOT of students out there like that, I don't think they'd look too kindly on your comment here saying they are afraid to exert themselves.
sorry, no. I use a tv tuner to capture these clips. and its difficult to capture full shows. not impossible, just hard. not to mention more editing would have to be done due to youtube's limitations. which is why I don't do it often. its much easier to just capture short 2 minute clips instead.
Feeny is like a father to me.

DingusStudley 3 years ago
Thats what I call a lame excuse. There are people who are learning disabled... or suffer all forms of mental set backs that get their college degree. Your so called "intellectual capacities" argument is fundamentally flawed. Your intellectual capacities are determined by your determination to learn new skills. To say "Its just beyond me" is something a quitter would say.
UltimoLatino 3 years ago 3
You're living in a dream world buddy. Just cuz some people can overcome learning disabilities doesn't mean everyone the world over can get a degree in any damn thing they want. There are limits to intelligence, whether you want to believe it or not. Simply trying harder isn't going to make up for that in everyone. College isn't for everybody.
Again, motivation/determination, while important, does not count for everything.
DingusStudley 3 years ago
True that college isnt for everyone... however to assume that one is not smart enough to learn something shows a complete lack of determination and out right lazyness. If you try and try and try and just cant grasp after several attempts and then have come to believe it is beyond your abilities then thats rational. But just to conclude without trying or trying half-assed then you are stupid but not because your brain doesnt work but because you have no confidence in yoru potential.
UltimoLatino 3 years ago 2
I never made that assumption, and didn't mean that anyone should come to the conclusion that something is beyond them without putting forth an honest effort to learn it.

Fine then ultimately we are in agreement=)

i don't agree with this comment at all. for example, i am not an extremely intelligent person at all, but through motivation and busting my hump for six years, i am finally going to Oxford University next year. people who use intelligence as an excuse are just afraid to exert themselves for fear of failure. don't let fear keep you back, or use any excuse. go for your dreams.

DingusStudley 2 years ago 3
you know what? i completely agree. i agree that there are people out there who do not show their entire potential in their lives. i was not trying to exclude those who do not go to college from being considered smart, i was just trying to make the statement that even if you are not extremely intelligent, you can become knowledgebale. hard work and luck can get you to many places. i interned in congress this past summer. hard work is important. that's all i was trying to say.

Thanks for posting this, would it be possible to download the entire episode?
thistwistingplot 5 years ago
sorry, no. I use a tv tuner to capture these clips. and its difficult to capture full shows. not impossible, just hard. not to mention more editing would have to be done due to youtube's limitations. which is why I don't do it often. its much easier to just capture short 2 minute clips instead.
