Rathbun is a prime example of just how difficult it can be to break free of the mind control practiced by the CO$. By fixating on the evils of the current management, he is still able to believe that scientology is a useful system to help people, thus convincing himself that he hasn't wasted his life.

Miscavige isn't the problem - scientology is. It is a regime of mind control exercises designed to turn its practioners into slaves incapable of rational thought, and that's all it is.
