  • +7 HALA MADRID

  • 5 people lost their pumpkin pies

  • Hahahaha! Those kids singing were totally from Brooklyn.

  • I wonder if Jim Henson ever got broken, bruised, and banged up after doing 10 of these trips down the stairs.

  • I know that baker did not eat that Pie from the floor

  • im currently showing these to my kids. the kind of tv shows we had before it all turned to crap. the drum beats on these baker series are as fresh as i can remember. i still laugh at the fall and its been 30 years! good memories. good lessons too. =D

  • This is TRUE Sesame Street at it's best....today's shows are terrible!!!

  • @oldiesmusic76 Man, you got that right!

  • Donald Trump should fire his ass

  • The kid with the seven nickles is a VERY young Brian Henson. He also showed up in the baker #3, with the "3 peas"

  • That little boy with the seven straws sounds just like Cindy off the Brady Bunch

  • lsd and a kids show not a good combo

  • I remember I would dance like a maniac when the number was announced!

  • Gotta know Circles to graduate with a PHD!!! Funny! He should have been my professor in college

  • 0:15 for the individual numbers, I dont remember a drum beat for each one?...

  • Haha the guy that falls ocer cracks me up

  • Family guy? The hookers? anyone get the reference

  • Pumpkin Pies

  • I agree, the voice is Jim Henson's but the stuntman himself is Alex Stevens.

  • This one features same characters in others such as the man who counts the spiders and the kid with the nickels - interesting how they lined them up with same characters I didnt realise that

  • I don't think i've seen this in 30 years and yet i still laugh at the baker falling down the stairs like i did when i was 6. Laughing out loud sure is good for the soul.

  • @bakedzale I think I laugh harder now. Priceless! :-)

  • @bakedzale

You got that right! The baker cracked me up as well, and this one is one that I especially remember.

  • These were my favorites! Thanks for sharing!

  • All of these 'baker' segments 1-10 were filmed in 1969. They appear on the first SS with it screened Nov 1969.

  • I'm not sure, are those real spiders?

  • No.

  • I remember they used to air this one more than any of the other numbers. Eventually I started thinking 'there's other numbers kids need to know besides this one.' Nevertheless I've always enjoyed this sketch. Thanks for posting it.

  • lol, omg, that baker is still so funny, Someone should still shout, "WATCH OUT BAKER!" Whenever he starts to come down the steps. And what's with that guy in that graduation outfit?.

  • It's a 1969-era steryotypical professor. In those days, it was assumed that professors wore the cap and gown when teaching. The one (stereotype look) I never understood is why do old-time accountants or card dealers wear a visor?

  • @HoustonRules Dealers and accountants were usually working under fairly bright lights for hours, so the green eyeshade/visor reduced eyestrain, headaches, etc. Either better lighting and more frequent breaks for casino dealers, or use of computers instead of paper ledgers, reduced the need for them in both professions.

  • @HoustonRules

I've never understood that, either. Why would an accountant need to wear a visor? All stereotypes are based in truth, so clearly some accountants used to wear visors in their offices. I just can't imagine what the heck for. XD

  • Thanks for the quick reply, conspir8or. Now I know.

  • I know all about being arachnaphobic~!! I am really bad!

  • Seven Against Thebes

  • Seven deadly sins.

  • *Falls down*

  • "Seven...pumpkin...pies...! Ooof!"

  • right on!....would love to see them counted

  • thank you for this, you have made my day mstatz!

  • OK, it's just Jim Henson's voice, I've been schooled. I remember my little sister simply could not DEAL with the seven spooky spiders. She ran from the room every time! :D

  • Oh. Your sister is arachnaphobic?

  • To this day!!! :D

  • Man, that takes me back.

  • This is so basic it's cool. No digital animation or special effects.

  • This is why I'm warped !!! BRILLIANT !

  • i loved it when the guy fell down the stairs

    hahastup!

  • That's Jim Henson, creator of the Muppets, and the voice of Kermit the Frog, falling down the stairs at the end!

  • Henson just dubbed the voice, it's another guy falling.

  • No it's not. It's his voice but he's not the one doing the free fall down the stairs.

  • Ah, the 70's! Could you even do a kids show segment like this today? Or would the lawsuits come pouring in..."my kid went into an epileptic siezure!" :D

  • Alas, you are right about the lawsuits. :(

  • does anyone have the 1-10 cartoons. the ones that had the race cars and flashers etc.

  • They're on here... search for "jazzy spies" and you should find them.

  • This has to be the most tripped out version.

  • Whatch for it in the next jackass movie - - SEVEN MOLOTOV COCKTAILS!!!

Whoop! Crash! Shatter! Poof! Big orange fireball, which sets off the building sprinker system

  • All your baker videos are so funny i mean LOL.

  • SEVEN PUMPKIN PIES...whoop! LOL

  • I loved this segment as a kid. It really hit you over the head. The number 7 was like some kind of superstar! You had to love it cause it was so over the top. Counting rocks!

  • I know what you mean. The number seven just explodes right in your face for ten seconds while the kids go SEVEN! SEVEN! SEVEN! SEVEN!! ...awesome.

  • Did Family Guy poke fun at this?

  • I know Family Guy made fun of the Pinball Number sequences from Sesame Street...in this case Stewie is the pinball! Not sure about this one.

  • Yes, they actually did. I can't actually say what it is because it'll disrupt the kid-friendly atmosphere. You'll have to see it for yourself.

  • @Maestrojosh87

It's funny about the Family Guy spoof because there's such a distinct age cutoff for who in the audience would get the joke and who wouldn't. Sesame Street stopped showing the Baker series in 1988 or '89. So people born after about 1986 or '87 would have no clue what that joke was about. Anyone born before that most likely would.

  • Well, I was born in 1987. I got the joke through you guys on youtube! Keep it coming so I can keep getting the jokes no one else does!

  • YouTube kind of does change the whole game. XD

  • @Marbles471 One of the things I love about Family Guy is that series creator Seth MacFarlane (along with, I think, many of the writers) is right about the same age that I am. So there are many pop-culture references that only my generation mainly gets!

  • @HoustonRules

Yep. Only thing is, that specificity might mean that the series could end up not aging well. Time will tell.

  • Yes. It was in "Petarded".

  • Actually, the Family Guy spoof of the baker is in the episode "I Am Peter, Hear Me Roar". I've just watched that episode. It's in Season 2. I always wondered what it was referencing, now I know!

  • @DragonLord1975 (1-2-3-4-5-6-7) Seven....Seven Prostitutes.

  • I liked this - nice to bring back good memories. However, my favorite Sesame Street Baker series memory is on the #5 episode (Hint: broken glass).

  • I'm guessing this came out around Thanksgiving or so. Then the baker's seven pumpkin pies he had would make superb sense.

  • I wonder if Spider-Man over on the Electric Company would be offended by the "7 spooky spiders" guy.

  • nobody has found or have a video for #1 yet huh.

  • Oh thank-you so much mstatz for posting this- the answer to so many questions about my own personal neuroses in life.

    7 pumpkin pies indeed..

  • love it

  • Those spiders aren't spooky at all! They're on strings! Oh well. That's typical for Sesame Street from the seventies.

  • Know who played the baker? Jim Henson!

  • trippy!!!

  • I always loved the marriage of Psychedelia and Slapstick.

  • ...these number skits were my favorite

  • The ducks in this video and the cameras in "#6" were shot OUTSIDE THE STUDIO! Everthing else in the Baker Films were inside.

  • Great observation!

  • Also the 2 butterflies and 6 bats.

  • @DragonLord1975 I never noticed that before, great observation!

  • @DragonLord1975 6 cameras=outside

  • @DragonLord1975 they couldn't get the ducks to come inside as there was a bread strike on and there was nothing to coax them with

  • since Jim Henson is no longer alive, I don't know if that will happen, but I would love to see the # 1, I think I saw it one time and I never saw it again

  • I remember seeing on Wikipedia that the Song of 10 did originally have 10 Indians instead of bells. However, being born in '86, the bells version is the only one I remember ever seeing

  • Actually, does anyone have "#10"?The one currently up here is the "Bells" version and has some stupid sound effects that were NOT origionally there!

  • I have it but I missed the counting up to 10 at the beginning. I'm not sure what everybody means about the "bells" version. The kid throwing down the 10 bells is the only version there is. The sound effects of each bell as it organizes in two rows is not different from the one they aired over 35 years ago.

  • Actually, what I meant by "bells" version and sound effects were that the "Song Of (Ten)" sketch origionally had "Ten Indians" but were then replaced with "Ten Bells" a few years later, and as for the sound effects,I meant that the current video up here has sound effects like a "Boing" and "Ding" when the baker was falling down the stairs and if I remember correctly, they were not origionally there.

  • I know what you mean about the stupid new sounds added to 10. Where did you hear that it used to be 10 Indians? The "10 bells" is the only one I remember and I've been watching these since the early 70's. You could tell by the film and the style of the kid that it dated back to the original. I think the "10 Indians" was a rumor or a mistake that someone posted.

  • pause at the 1:03 mark and you will see the indians

  • The 10 Little Indians WERE there. It was in '71 and I saw that on Noggin before they yanked Sesame Street Unpaved off the air.

  • @DragonLord1975 The original one with the "ten little indians" is now on YouTube (as of this post).

  • My son and I are thrilled this is back!

  • That's the truth!

  • If we ever find #1, can the title be "Sesame Street - Baker #1... at long last!"?

I had thinking up ideas for an 11 skit and a 12 skit. The items may vary, but how about these desserts? Are you happy with "11 vanilla-topped pies" and "12 upside-down pineapple cakes?" That'd really bring the poor baker to O.R. lol.

  • I don't think there's a "song of 1" there. Back then, the limit was 10.

  • Looks like they're seven SQUASH pies now.

  • Lol.

  • Ok,now all we need is 1,WHICH NOBODY HAS,and then we're complete.

  • bring back all the baker skits from 1-10

  • Keep those clips coming, Mike!
