Onion Valley is a great entry point. Kearsarge Lakes is a great place to camp the first night. The southern side of Forrester Pass is an engineering marvel and a must see. My favorite place on this trip was the stretch from Tyndall Creek to Crabtree Meadow. Bring your fishing pole for the lakes in the meadow.
Did Whitney on Labor Day last year from the HST. Thinking about doing the trip from Onion Valley some time in the future. Was it awesome? You guys made a wise decision turning back. The mountain will always be there.
Congratulations on your hikes! very impressive to have done the Rae Lakes loop at your age. I have Rae Lakes loop videos on my channel so check them out!!
