While I agree with Ron Paul on many of his foreign affair policies, I have to say he may not have read the bill in its final state. This bill opens a hole to allow individuals to sell Aircraft parts to IRAN. It also allows individuals to sell 1 million dollars in petrol before the sanction is violated (hr 2194 SEC. 102.B.3). It allows up to 20 million dollars in refinery parts to be sold to Iran before a person is in violation (hr 2194 SEC. 102.a.1.A.i).
ALL the politicians that voted for this BILL will talk a big propaganda game, and then do little to nothing to solve the actual problem. I suggest reading this BILL hr 2194 before you comment on it. Iran joined the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty years ago and has complied. Recently they negotiated to do a swap of their uranium with Brazil & Turkey and they all agreed. I completely believe Iran when they say they want to use it for peaceful purposes. Why does the U.S. want to go to war and why do they continually pick on Iran who has no nuclear weapons and doesn't want them because they will destroy humanity. While I agree with Ron Paul on many of his foreign affair policies, I have to say he may not have read the bill in its final state. This bill opens a hole to allow individuals to sell Aircraft parts to IRAN. It also allows individuals to sell 1 million dollars in petrol before the sanction is violated (hr 2194 SEC. 102.B.3). It allows up to 20 million dollars in refinery parts to be sold to Iran before a person is in violation (hr 2194 SEC. 102.a.1.A.i).

As one of the oldest civilizations in the world, its leaders are interested in self-preservation, which is the reason they are pursuing nuclear energy. How am I a moron when all 16 US intelligence agencies declared that Iran gave up its search for nuclear weapons in 2003? There is absolutely no evidence that Iran is seeking a bomb. Moron.

Yeah PAUL! Set them straight. Paul is the only congressman that understands American foreign policy better than the rest of the government officials and congressman and women. Sanctions are a complete joke. The Iranians will find ways around them just like Iraq did as Informed Comment blogger Juan Cole points out. Sanctions are going to make the Iranians want to develop nuclear weapons because they will be acting defensively b/c of possible attack from Israel and their nuclear arsenal.

Ron Paul is a worthless far left liberal on all national security matters, he not only does not believe in fighting back when attacked as in Afghanistan, he doesn't even believe in using sanctions against radical Islamic Iran to stop them getting nukes. He's for letting any crazed dictator do whatever they want anywhere in the world, no matter what. Absolutely useless on any foreign policy.

For one, the far left liberals have historically been the ones to take us to war. So that comment makes very little sense. Second, none of these issues are national security matters, so that makes very little sense. We have not done anything to catch those responsible for 9/11, sanctions will not prevent Iran from obtaining weapons, and our policies CREATE crazed dictators.

@kinga750 Democrats pre 1968 have nothing to do with liberals today when it comes to foreign policy, so that's irrelevant, we don't create crazed dictators generally, although this is a good Marxist talking point, which is no surprise to find RP and his fans repeating. Ron Paulistines and Noam Chomsky Marxist filth are indistinguishable on all foreign policy questions. America's always to blame, we should never take on evil anywhere, we're always the bad guys.

You forgot to mention that Ron Paul wants to bring the troops home so they are defending the US instead of South Korea or Italy, and they are not tied up in endless wars. That way, when someone really does want to attack us, we can defend ourselves.

What prevents me from voting for him is his foreign policy. He has none. My understanding of Ron Paul's foreign policy is bring everyone home, reduce the military budget, and stay out of other countries business.

That is old school thinking. Today, the attacks will most likely be WMDS. It will be to late to draft people since most will be dead or badly wounded. You have to be proactive today not reactive. Ron Paul is more reactive and that will not work.

Don't force our beliefs on other, treat other nations as equals, and don't go around looking for monsters to kill. And if you don't believe that sanctions wont cause problems down the road, take a look at the Iraq situation. Sanctions just cause problems and negatively affect the citizens of that country, but of course our people don't care.
