Deepwater Horizon Explosion. April 20, 2010. "Officially" sealed September, 2010. Mankind's current dependence on technology to "live" will result in its demise. Oil will become scarce and much violence and upheaval will arrive.
There is balance and it's achievable if a conscientious effort is made to create a new, resource-based economy to replace the current type of economy, which is not based on anything real at all.
In pursuit of illusions, we've created a torture chamber.
This, music-wise, is my favourite part. It goes abruptly from light uplifting organ and wind to violence with strings and brass, and finally the stark organ playing chords, and back to the beginning structure again.
Things has change a long way from the 80's to where we are now. When i first saw this on tape, i started to like this film and this is my favorite scene. It feels like your flying with this and the music.
Funny, I initially loathed this movie. I felt it painted a bleak and impersonal picture. I still feel it's a message hopelessness, but I guess I've grown to accept it for what it is. The simple fact that it provokes such emotion, positive and negative, proves it's a success in story telling.
I got a idea just now. but what if we just where living on 1 country big as russia but had all the materials we need to survive. for 200 plus years . and never left it to explore . and now 2009 we start to explore the world . population was extermly low then what it is now 8 billion +++ just my idea of how we can save our mankind form self destruction.
the world is very biased; look at the intricacies of the earth and the human design and then tell me how 'twisted' the guy in the sky is. its more logic than anything we are an excellent design of things that are impossible to understand.
i find it's to difficult to write sth about this movie, because we are all so deeply concerned. I can just say that i feel totaly implicated and that this movie is a amster piece which will endure till the end
you know i heard from something i dont know what that recycling and doing all that is just going to make things worse and in the end God will restore all things on earth either by a miracle or destruction (a.k.a. the apocalypse)
This movie is in many ways an indictment on mankind. Like parasites we exploit this beautiful earth to indulge our consumer lifestyle. In the end we lose touch with who we are. Its very powerful to watch, disturbing yet compelling at the same time.
yeah Im very interested in civilizational development. Such as the first humans and how we grew and changed to the modern space bearing species we are today. To be honest I have great hope. There's allot of work to be done but I think we're realising how precious our earth is. ps: Im not a hippy lol.
As long as populations grow there will be an increased demand on non-renewable and renewable resources. The world is already way beyond its carrying capacity.
i dont think this film is trying to make any sort of opinion, i think its just an observation of human civilization and shows you images for you to make judgment, i dont think its trying to say we are destroying or thriving....also I am very certain we will not destroy the planet lots of technology is in development to help it, we are gonna have some rough times but I guarentee we are gonna pull through in the end
we are all doomed, there is no stopping the population growth. we will eventually manifest and see a population crash. the question isnt if technology is destroying our race, its when it will destroy our race.
I think it shows humanity is just one of many small forces of nature.
Our bulldozers do what rain, rivers, and clouds have done to the land for millions of years. Ask yourself this, with machines and explosives, how long would it take us to create mountains and the grand canyon compared to "mother nature"? Probably much longer, or quicker. Either way, machines are made from materials from the earth, crafted by beings raised on earth. It's a natural part of the world in other words.
Amazing movie, with such amazing music, great talents joined forces to offer a particular view of the tension and energies that rule the world, and the human touch, the peculiar human touch... This film caught my eye for years... is somthing to see... and hear..!!!
A lot of people on here are saying that this film is best watched while "on something". How about watching it sober? Why do you need a substance to enjoy it, or to appreciate its message? I don't mean to be preachy, it just frustrates me that people don't otherwise have a) the attention span, or b) the interest/incentive to watch things like this without the interference of a drug or other substance. Where are our minds, people? Let the film speak to you!
@jessiasu Well said. Although I don't see anything wrong with a little mind altering from time to time, this film, and many other "stoner classics," need no such enhancements to be appreciated.

Why do religious people take anything great and attempt to taint it with ideas about their twisted man in the sky? Rhetorical question.

it kind of is, but at the same time it shows the beauty of the world we live in, and how we people adapt. It's actually quite confusing.
