10 seconds into it and it's already wrong. The story DOESN'T begin 1979, it begins in the 1950's when the CIA overthrew a demcraticaly elected government that wasn't a theocracy and wasn't a menace to the world. But we wanted foreign nations to own Iranian oil, so we installed a dictator friendly to those foreign interests (mostly BRITISH, not even American)

@dLimboStick you are wrong - both corporatism and socialism embrace the use of government violence to dictate the terms human behavior and to benefit certain groups at the expense of others. Corporatism and socialism both fall within the sphere of authoritarianism/statism. Free market Libertarianism is the true opposite of the statist paradigm.

@jacobromu I dismiss the socialist conception of the "classless, stateless" society for (at least) two reasons 1) it proposes using an authoritarian paradigm to bring about human "freedom" - it defies logic to think that the path to peace, freedom and prosperity is institutionalized violence and coercion 2) A prerequisite of the socialist fantasy is the belief that human beings are totally blank slates at birth that can be molded into any behavior desired, history and science says otherwise.

Well, not really. The fact of the matter is the US has always backed anyone, no matter how evil, if they were anti-communist. And the notion that we pushed "Democracy" is a strange one when the US is not a "democracy" in the simplistic terms we try to foist off on the rest of the world. Fact is, the US is a nation of Rule of Law in the form of a Constiutional Repulic with Democratically Elected Representatives. A simplistic democracy is easy to control. A government more like ours, much harder.

Excellent history of the emnity involved, although I thought the metaphor with Canada and Mexico controlled by Iran to be a little ridiculous. The fact that CIA (an agency which should be eliminated from our government) removed a duly elected leader and installed a dictator is compelling proof that the United States is not a country guided by principle. Greed trumps fairness. Dissenters of the US policy toward Iran unfortunately are going to be too small a minority to change the minds of hawks.

i really like this but I disagree w/Mossadeq's nationalization of the oil refineries as it amounts to theft.

i think if BP had destroyed the refineries & left the democratic nationalist w/the nothing he deserved they could've negotiated a new contract and set a new precedent for property rights, while avoiding getting blood on their hands.
