Bad cars from Chrysler. They had a policy where they would rush the cars from production to the dealer without doing any testing or quality checks. Chrysler felt they would fix the problems as they were reported. It was a major reason why it almost went out of business.

@TK42138 Like my grandpap says - "The first commercials called it "the new little Chrysler" and said it had "fine Corinthian leather"" Grandpap says he wishes that commerical was up but they probably burned it because it was so stupid.
He may have driven this monstrosity for the advert but I bet he drove something racy and Italian in reality. The only saving grace for this ad is his superb accent plus the knowledge that he played Khan.

That thing looks like it's bouncing around as it enters the a turn. The suspension was probably as firm as a rubber band, and handled like a giraffe on roller skates. My dad a had 1979 Mercury Cougar, that was about the same size and body style. I remember it was large, bouncy ride and it broke down regularly. Ah the great American cars of the 70's!
Ricardo Montalban must have known the car was nothing special, yet he still gives his line readings 110%. I must respect that. Imagine if someone had hired him to advertise a really serious machine.
I'd have to say that in the late 70's, Detroit was having big problems. Downsized engines with power-robbing and unreliable emissions controls (in an attempt to comply with stricter federal emissions and gas mileage regulations before the engine technology could catch up). Late 1970's American cars also rusted like crazy, too.
Piece of garbage unibody. My dad bought one new with the 400. Never wanted to start, knocked and pinged, dieseled at shutoff, car pulled to the right constantly, blew up its transmission, radiator, etc. All in 5 years until he got wise and got rid of the shite-pile.
Well -- for a Chrysler, in 1975, yes, it was small! I had one somewhat more recently -- it was about 10 or 12 years old -- and OMG I loved that car! Seats were velour, not the famous soft Corinthian leather. What a ride, talk about a land yacht! Only gripe was that even with a 400 engine ('76) it felt a little sluggish and underpowered. Would SO love another one.
Large American cars from the mid to late 1970's did tend to handle quite badly, and also rusted quickly (I owned one of them myself), but I always turned heads and made smaller more modern vehicles move the hell out of my way. RIP.
The 10 people who disliked this video shall be left you as you left me, as you left her. Marooned for all eternity, in the center of a dead planet... buried alive.... buried aliiiive...
@lucasorcorey It's not as bad as you would think. My wife's 2002 Town & Country van has to be filled up every week. The Cordoba gets decent gas mileage, as long as as I don't dog the 360 4bbl. So, to answer your question, I DO get tired of paying for gas, but don't get tired of driving the Cordoba. Thanks!
@lucasorcorey I can't say for sure. There's no in-car option that displays mpg. I've searched my sales brochure, but it's not there. I've searched the web and about all I can tell is it's around 10-12 mpg when new. The engine's still strong with excellent cylinder compression, so I'm guessing 10? Damn. Never really thought about it before.
@NaClPeter oh lol. well if it has a trip odometer then you should just reset it next time you fill up and then when that runs empty then you divide the amount of gallons it took to fill it by the amount of miles on the trip odometer and then you will know how much mpg you got on that tank
I had a '78 with a 360 2bbl...bought it for $100back in 1990 and lasted 10 yrs...this car was built like a tank...great in snow...couldn't stop it...sadly tranny went out and didn't have a place to work on it at the time..sold it for 75 for scrap and regret it ever since....
Consider this...back in '76, the Chrysler Cordoba was 215" - small next to the 233" New Yorker, the 223" Chev Caprice, and the 224" Ford LTD. This was the last big year of the BIG car as downsizing began: the Honda Accord (162") and Cadillac Seville (206") - the "Small Cadillac" - debuted.
Compare that with 2011. The Chrysler 300 is 197", the Cadillac CTS is 190", but the Accord moved up market and grew to 194" (sedan).
That small '76 Cordoba is the same size as the current Lincoln Town Car.
umm...why did he just drive his "small" Chrylser with its Corinthian leather to a deserted beach fully dressed in his finely tailored suit? wtf is he doing?
Exactly right----a car that size today would be considered a full size luxury ride. It`s amazing they considered that Cordoba a "small" Chrysler. It looks longer and wider than present day rides.

Compare that with 2011. The Chrysler 300 is 197", the Cadillac CTS is 190", but the Accord moved up market and grew to 194" (sedan).
