  • This was the period when westerners and Japs called Chinese: "the sick man of Asia". Remember that particular Bruce Lee movie that has sign, Chinese and dogs not allowed to enter sign? This was that era. Fortunately the sleeping dragon has wake up now.

  • 2:12 No Western influences? lol

  • wow china was so much better before adopting western inventions like cars, planes...LOL

  • its interesting to see footage of a civilised society with no western influences. its like looking to footage of another planet. western culture is so dominant now, its everywhere.

  • DAMN these were really very very bad , dark, and harsh times. CHINA CAME A VERY LONG WAY.

  • Amazing, absolutely amazing!!!

Thank you so much for posting this!!

  • thanks for this video

  • China's future is okay now. I hope this level of progress continues. The Chopstick countries are all doing well (Taiwan, Korea, Japan) except for China

  • @Microglia1 lol that's why china host the olympics 2008.

  • I like China under Japanese rule. There was a lot of progress.

  • @Microglia1 Then you should invite US or Japan to invade Cuba.

  • @Microglia1

You mean progress in destruction, mass rape, looting and genocide? Like a macrophage ingesting other cells and debris.

  • @Microglia1 What a stupid comment. Progress my foot. The Japs treated China as her colony. Ruled China with iron claws. Reaped her natural resources, massacred her citizens,(Nanking Massacre 300,000 citizens were killed 10,000 innocent women were raped many forced to be comfort women for Japs troops..Japs 731 regiment used life Chinese for biological experiments. Totolly destruction on Chinese land. Just to name few ulgy deeds the Japs did .. find out the facts. You will change you opinions.

  • @chinaboy1020 so it's okay for Mao, a Chinese, to kill millions of people but not the Japanese? Look at it this way, Japanese rule would have prevented communist takeover, and a nationalist army will eventually win. That means China would be at the level of industrialization of Taiwan.

  • @Microglia1

I'm a Chinese and in my point of view, both imperialist japs and communist mao are evil. In 1964, when a japanese ambassador visited China, mao thanked that Japanese ambassador and he said that without Japanese invasion, he could not defeat the nationalists. Japanese invasion had strongly weakened ROC, and that's why commies had the chance to take over China.

Both imperialist japs and commies are evil.

  • @TheXanian how true. There was no good outcome for China.

  • @Microglia1

Japs and Communists both harmed China. Both of them are evil.

  • @Microglia1 just to correct you a little bit on the Chinese history. The Nationalist with Chiang Kai Shek at the helm is equally bad! His in-laws are ripping the country off like mad. The Soong family and the Kung family (75th Generation of confucious descendant) are stripping the country bare and channeling their wealth out of the country!

  • @Microglia1 Taiwan has always been under the Japanese, and when Chiang Kai Shek ran to Taiwan, he was not welcomed at all! As the people in Taiwan or Formosa has been living peacefully, and the Japanese has developed Formosa into a country with strong economy. The Nationalist merely inherited what's left behind by the Japanese.

  • @lipkeng I agree with you. Very insightful comment. Chinese people are not good at self-rule, and if self-rule is in place, the poor peasants always suffer. This explains the constant peasant uprisings/revolutions riddled throughout Chinese history.

  • This was China in decline.

  • wonderfull ty for sharing learn alot from it

  • 我深以为自豪的伟大的祖国!那是一段沉痛而又不堪回首的屈辱岁月!国人奋强!

  • I visited China in 2008 and 2007. It's amazing how the country has transformed and modernized.

  • The quality of this film is remarkable.

  • Western influence has certainly made positive contributions to China's development, but unfortunately, it has also damaged the elegant and almost sacred presence of tradition.

  • @potentialavalanche haha whitemans guilt right here.

  • @potentialavalanche Yeah, China's past charm is non existent right now, but we fixed their economy, which is more important

  • Comment removed

  • Wow.

  • @Perdakim1 Read more books, then you can make an educated comment.

  • Chinese people at that time could not imagine how Japanese raped our country seriously!

  • statements based on what? where's the proof of what you just said? just ending your sentence with 'seriously" doesn't make it fact.

  • I wish I could have visited China back then in its original and "untouched" state.

  • i hope this documentary last for another century...

  • thanks for sharing,
