This is a travesty it was only 5 mins long. And they were talking over it about something else???? Mr. Perfect was the Original Rob Van Dam. God, this would had been a great 20 min match!
@MrDirkDaring They had Orton punt him in the head so hge could go off TV and go back to Florida . they are reworking him so my guess is when he comes back he will be the New Mr Perfect . Just read that btw
There will never be a new "Mr. Perfect". He was one of a kind. His son and Ted Dibiase Jr. are both boring and bland. They only ever got a job with WWE because of their last name.
@MrDirkDaring Call it fake or say he cant be replaced whatever. Thats what WWE is going for. He wont be as good but he is still gonna be the New MR Perfect
Where did you read he's gonna be the new Mr. Perfect. I just want to see your source because I think you're lying. He doesn't have the personality to pull the gimmick off. Plus his dad was an amazing athlete, so they could do vignettes of him doing all kinds of "perfect" things.
@MrDirkDaring Just type it in. He was already that way as Joe Hennig in FWC or whatever . The development wrestling in Florida where he started out. He was Joe Hennig and did the Hennig Plex and acted pretty much like his father. Also look it up on wiki . Thats where they sent him back to retune his character. Either way i dont give a shit if you think i am lying because thats what they are going for whether you like it or not. Stop being a bitch and do some research
This is what I hate about the WWE now. The STUPID ASS commenators spend more time talking about bullshit then the match. I saw RVD do crazy flips and shit and all they do is talk over it...like their not even watching the match. And when they do start to talk about the match, its like they know its going to end soon so they start talking about the match. This made wrestling predicable and boring. If the announcers aren't even into the match, why the hell should I be?
This would be a Pay Per View main event. RVD is awesome. But only one can be "Perfect". If I was Vince I would love to give these guys 15-20 minuets, to showcase their incredible talents.
The two almost had no business even matching up in the same ring. One appears to be a new age, lightweight , female acrobat, the other a traditional, overly skilled wrestler, holding so much of his ability back to please his boss.
This is a PPV quality match right here. That's what I miss about Heat and Velocity-- sure it may have mostly been just mid-card guys and lower, but ever now and then you got quality matches like this one here. Oh and did I mention that both shows respectively focused on 'WRESTLING' :D
@metsssss Don't think that's a bad move. RVD was really getting over and Curt Hennig has always had a philosophy of "getting guys over."
But as many others have said, this match did not belong on a Sunday step-child show that no one watched.
RVD vs Perfect could easily deliver a 4 to 5 star match. Have Perfect say he wants his IC belt back, say he's the GOAT IC champ, that he's the "Perfect" IC champ and a legend. Then come ppv time, let them go out and do their thing.
@gostars3000: I agree. I don't necessarily have a problem with Hennig jobbing to RVD, but the problem I have is this was essentially a squash match. In fact, just about all the matches Hennig was in were squash matches. Hennig losing is one thing, but he doesn't ever deserve to be squashed.
The big mistake was keeping Hening on after his brilliant Rumble appearance. That is in no way the brilliant Mr Perfect's fault, it's just that the WWF of 2002 obviously had no plans for him, other than getting squashed on Jakked and Heat. And that's a very sad thought.
@azapro911: I agree with you. But what I don't understand is, they did seem like they were going to use him well at first. He initially was getting some good air time and seemed like he was going to be in a good feud with Austin.. unfortunately that seems to have been where the plans ended.
@jtlbb2 I think that was because the nWo came in around the same time, and WWF wanted Austin to face Scott Hall, instead of entering a rivalry with Perfect. A shame really, because from watching this match, and seeing the diverse styles and the glances they give one another, Austin and Perfect could've had a good rivalry.
@jtlbb2 Quick apology about my previous comment. I meant everything I said, but the match I meant was Austin vs. Perfect on Raw in March 2002, not this one with RVD. Sorry.
It's cool. Believe me when I say that I know what you mean about them not utilizing Mr Perfect better. Truthfully, Austin vs Perfect could have been billed as a dream match. I remember when Austin first got to WWF, Hennig "mentored" him for a little bit and Hennig wasn't wrestling at the time, but I remember Hennig said they would have had a great match together. Unfortunately when that match finally happened, it didn't get the attention it deserved.
Henning could have (and damn well SHOULD have) been a top guy in the WWE. I'm a massive Henning fan & it amazes me how he never held the WWE title even when he was their first time round in the 90's. He could have been a hell of a top heel on RAW but sadly it never happend :(
@superrobz i totally agree. his technical ability is unreal. i'v often said that the wwe champions recently (edge, ray mysterio, khali, jericho, seamus etc) had nothing on perfect.
Wasn't Mr Perfect fired, along with Scott Hall, for the infamous Plane Ride From Hell in 2002? Although I think WWF/E made an example out of Curt whereas Hall's conduct was a good enough reason for his release from the Company
Curt challenged Brock Lesnar to a fight while the plane was airborne. He was a dick when he was coked up and didn't have a place in the company in that state.
It wouldv'e been great to see Mr. Perfect as WWE Intercontinental Champion again ... but he never got a good chance at the WWE Tag Team Championship or WWE Championship. Well, actually he did get a few chances against Hogan for the WWE Title.
Hennig has done more jobs than anyone. WWF/E pimped him out like a $20 crack-whore for most of his career (after he lost to Hogan in the beginning). Heels used to spend most of their careers losing but Mr.Perfect was so good, it was hard to watch him lose all his major matches after outclassing WHOEVER for the entire match. He is the best ever. Flair is the greatest, but Hennig is the best.
I think I know what you mean. RVD was great in any Hardcore/gimick type matches. But working in the confines of a standard match there was no variation, just the smae stuff repeated. He could have beena bigger star if he got the hang of that.
Sure, he took some crazy falls and done his share of flying, but his storytelling skills were lackluster at best. Real wrestling will always prevail - the people who prefer ECW style wrestling are in a very small minority.
Yes I toatally agree. I like mat wrestling quite a lot. Also the biggest stars in wrestling (even if they are brawling type wrestlers) can easily go into old style Chain-wrestling. Wrestlers who can only Brawl rarely achive much.
I expected more from an RVD mr Perfect match, but this was on heat and its just to bad when did'nt get to see them going at it with their full abilities.
@LangdonDipps They typically run two dark matches before each TV taping which occur twice per week (before RAW and again prior to NXT/Smackdown). Superstars has taken the place of the former enhancement talent shows such as "Shotgun Saturday Night" & "Velocity/Jakked" and these matches are taped immediately following the dark matches prior to the live RAW broadcast and the NXT/Smackdown tapings.

All due respect to Jericho.....thats just kinda sad.
0utsidersEdge 2 years ago
Exactly. I remember when Hogan won the belt for the 5th time, and that seemed like a shitload of times back then.
Then Bret won it from the 5th time from Taker at SS 97.
Now they do title swaps every few months bc they have so many pay per views, they need new main events.
Back then, they used to build angles over months, sometimes a year or longer & take the time to map out a good match for it.
Now they run an angle for 2 weeks, throw on a 10 min ppv match and expect ppl to give a shit.
