These look awesome for a person like me who is musically challenged but can sing but has no instrument to add to a band, just a voice! lol. Can you tell me - are they able to be used by a left handed person too? I am guessing you just tune the strings to fit?
@kazzajm They really are so easy to play! Yes, you can use them left handed by simply tuning the first and third string the opposite of what they are for right handed playing. You'll love playing one of these, I'm sure! Thanks for commenting!
I've been watching youtube videos on the strum stick because I'm looking to get one. Most of the videos show traditional/folk songs, but your song is a very cool little groove. I'm sold.
BTW, I'm a drummer, too, branching out a bit. The strum stick looks like a lot of fun. Take care!
@stoogemaniac That's awesome! I got mine from the web site GuitarCenter. I paid just over a hundred bucks for it. I agree, just about every video I watch of someone playing it, is folk/bluegrass. I'm the kind of person that likes to shake it up and go against the norm lol. You can play any style music on it really. Thanks for watching and commenting! I appreciate it!
@JohnEddy123 Hey, congratulations! They actually use a light to medium gauge banjo string. You can get them at any music store. I've had my strumstick for years and have never had to change the strings. Here's a suggestion if you do change the strings. Take a pencil and lightly mark the position of the bridge on the strumstick. The bridge isn't fixed so it will move when you change your strings. You'll know the exact position to place the bridge this way. Merry Christmas!
Wow that was great you should play more of the strum stick and is there any different kinds of strumsticks??!? please tell me my grandfather is going to buy one!
@XxFullsheildxX Thanks! I'll be posting more songs soon! You can go to the McNally web site or to Guitar Center (where I bought mine). Just to a Google search on " McNally Strumstick". : )
great taste you've got. i have been a long time KISS fan! you sure have a happy place. and for me, most of it would be the same. so playing my keyboard, or drumming on the roland hd-1, will make me happy. also watching humor movies, or playing a good game makes me happy, and get my mind off of negative thoughts. thanks for sharing :-) and rock on!
@musicmaniac1965 Thank you my friend! I've been a KISS fan since day one! I agree with you, playing music, listening to music, playing videos games and watching funny movies all work for me too! Thanks for commenting! Have a great day!
Beat them to death! So funny looking when you hold it. Ahh like a guitar for dummies. Dude that was awesome!!!! Put a smile on my face too. haha yep I heard it.
@HeyThatsMike Hahahaha! That's so funny, when my dad first saw me play it, he said I looked like the giant from Jack & the Beanstalk playing a guitar! lol.
@mommyvlogsalot Thanks Linda! It really is a lot of fun to play! ~ They're DVD's, just a small part of my collection. A lot of my books are on a shelf to the right of the DVD's. I also have a bunch more books and DVD's in my closet along with more instruments. I need a bigger office/music room! lol. : )
I loved the way you did the song the strumstick ! You need to play more for us Gregg! I mean, dude!!!! You got that cool music room...heck I would be happy too! LOL..Hope to hear ya jammin on the bass soon. Happy Sunday:)
@Cameragirl803 Thanks Jane! Your comment means a lot to me! I'll be posting some music vids in the near future, just remember, if your ears start to bleed, you asked for it! lol. Have a wonderful Sunday! : D
I almost bought a strumstick a few years ago but wasn't sure if they were truly as easy to play as the advertisements made them out to be. Thanks for showing us! I may have to pick one up.
PS: I heard some pretty loud lightning around here yesterday! :)
@RustleAbout They really are easy to play Russ. If you got one, I'm sure you wouldn't be let down! ~ LOL, I'm glad I'm not the only one who hears lightening! Hahaha! Have a good Sunday man!
Cool Stuff Greg ! Where is my E,lol. Thats a cool instrument.Maybe what I need, lol. You got musical talent man.Can you be my band, lol. We can perform for tips, lol.I like this show, was interesting.Have a great day man. I like to start singing anywhere. E
looks like you have quite an assortment there - I am afraid we don't have any more room for a drum kit between the flutes, pianos, guitars, mandolins, ukes, balalaikas, ouds, dulcimers, violins, harmonicas, bongos, melodicas, glockenspiels and cigar box guitars!! LOL
we didn't get a McNally but a knockoff - probably a mistake as the McNally sounds better - but the idea sparked a manufacturing plant at our house!
@LeSaMilano LOL, I hear ya about the instruments! I have a bunch more in the closet behind the KISS tapestry! I lost the tipper to my bodhran, I need a new one because I want to record a song on the strumstick accompanied by the bodhran. ~ I love all the instruments Mr. makes! He's quite an inspiration, and I always look forward to his videos! Have a great weekend!
I got started building with one of those - I had a lap mountain dulcimer and it kept falling off my lap so I made a strumstick type thing. Then I took the frets off it cos to play blues you need the wrong notes as well as the right notes!
@MrRandomWritings Hey man! I love seeing and hearing the instruments you make! Your videos are always such a pleasure to watch! I tried using a slide on my strumstick, but the strings are way to close to the frets. One of these days I'm going to have a try at making a cigar box guitar like you make! Would love to get my hands on one! I made a cigar box banjo, but it needs help! lol.
@greggfla See if you rip off the frets you don't have that problem no matter how low the action is - or, as you say, get building one but be careful - you might get hooked!. You may not have seen the strumstick I first made - I will dust it off sometime and show you
@MrRandomWritings I just watched it and I was blown away! Great video! Loved watching the construction process right up to the finished instrument! I really love the sound of it too! Has a much deeper, warmer sound than my Strumstick! Thanks for the link! Well done!
@greggfla It is quite loud as the body is as deep as an acoustic guitar - I am going to adjust it slightly so I will do another demo when I have re-set it. Glad you like it anyway
You're amazing! When did you learn to play all those instruments? I enjoyed your original tune "Mountain Mist" very much. Wish you would record it with you playing additional guitars, keyboard and percussion and maybe post it on iTunes for sale. I'd buy it!! You rock, Greg. Thanks for the great videos!
@myp410up WOW! What an awesome comment! Thank you so much! My Dad got me my first drum and guitar (plastic toy that really worked) when I was about four or five years old. Music has always been a part of my family, I grew up around it. Thanks again for the great comment! Have a good weekend!
@WolfgangDavis You should get one man, they're a blast to play! I got mine about a year ago and paid a hundred and thirty bucks. Thanks for commenting!
@justwant2bhappy Thanks Lauren! That's very kind of you to say! Having a good teacher means the world! I never took lessons on any of the instruments I play. God gave me a gift, and my Dad sparked the interest in playing. He's a great musician, I learned from watching him and the various band mates I've had through out the years. Have a great weekend as well!
@hippy4life4 Hahaha! I hear ya man! ~ It really is a cool little gitfiddle. I love jammin out on the thing. Not sure what they go for now, but I got this one about a year ago and paid about a hundred and thirty bucks. He makes electric ones now, I wouldn't mind getting my hands on.
@billyCtv You’re very welcome my friend, sorry it took me so long to make this response. Thank you for your kind words! I’ll be making some music videos in the near future, a lot of people have asked me to play some of the instruments I have, so I guess it’s about time I get around to it. : )
I'm learning strumstick and your song put a big grin on my face. Thanks for that!
