gotta search for tutorials on how to do the more cooler things though.
I wonder if the lines are first calculated when the image is loaded or if it's a dynamic process. Either way, this is an interesting way to re-size images.
Gradient magnitude is pretty computationally intensive; I wouldn't think you'd be able to render in real time on most consumer boxes these days. Does the algorithm just use a local approximation?
Gradient magnitude (it's used for Edge Detection) is pretty fast, I think the calculation of the minimal energy path is (or was) much more important subject for optimization.
I know what it's for. A gradient is a sum of partial derivatives, which can only be defined on smooth surfaces. For that reason to calculate it you need to interpolate a manifold from your data points, typically with the Fourier Transform, a very expensive operation for large images. That's why I asked if the algorithm used a local approximation like Laplace or Sobel. The energy path can be found by a comparison sort, about O n*logn by Stirling's approximation.
There are many ways to count the gradient mag or similar function. For an example you can count linear difference in 2*2 pixels matrix for each pixel, or use quadratic approximation for 3*3 matrix. That's pretty fast and it will work giving better or worse quality.
I know, man. It's called Sobel. Doing that approximates the slope from a local set of pixels; that's why I called it a local approximation. I've been saying that since the first post. I don't know why you're even responding. We're saying the same thing.
Looks like UTube ate second part of my answer to you.
Briefly, I sad, there is about 2~3^pic_size (2~3 not strict 3 because of sides effect) possible ways started in one particular pixel at one side to reach another. It is very big number to direct sort for a moderate picture. This is subject of dynamic programming, and those guys had to use one of approaches.
I really need some help, well first of all I have Adobe Photoshop CS3 and when I want to add a new layer to my photo, using the lasso tool it always appears so small on the picture. And I dont know how to resize it because it doesent show a square!
Honestly I wounder what has happened it the easy image resize? I have found one site and one site only that simply allows you to put a pic in and pick it's new dimensions

naoptadn 3 years ago
what does quad core have to do with 64 bit?
Seriously do people ever look anything up or just blog and BS all dam day with no idea?!!
And yes alot of quad (and dual core) motherboards (most of the new), support chips that support 64 bit architecture.

You dont have to be a nerd to look things up.
And the point, that you make for me, that most mac users ARE not nerds nor look things up and just nod and agree with what they are told and given.
The good thing is, this just makes people realize some differences and realities about Apple that people have refused to look at before.
Propaganda can only get you so far... and I'm glad.
jabberwolf 3 years ago
Get a cheap PC, get some programs, crash the computer because it can't handle the amount of programs you put in it because you think Windows owns.
Get a Mac at the same price, install whatever you like, because programs won't crash the Mac, like they would do with a PC.
Macs ain't expensive if you buy it online... If you go to a store it's heavily overpriced.
I was a Windows user, for a long time, but I changed to Mac because it's easier to use, and better to work with.
