Could you please tell what the name of the song is? I searched on all the lyrics I could understand and Google came back with zip! Somebody earlier claimed it was a song by Depeche Mode, but the lyrics don't match...must be pretty obscure if Google can't find it. Of course I may have Goofle-d...Thanks...wonderful, nostalgic images from when Vegas wasn't self-conscious about being kitschy...they're obviously "upscale" now (roll eyes...)
Awesome footage. My father opened the Desert Inn with the likes of Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy. He was in a trio, that was the house band in the Lady Luck Lounge for eight years.
Hey I liked the music, how did you switch this out? I haven't watched this for a bit but had it in my favorites, all of a sudden the "Something to do" is gone? Hey?
I'm 18 born and raised in vegas... I wish I could have grown up here in the 50's sooo bad. I loved hearing my grandparents talk about vegas back then.
Wow, look at old vintage vegas. Amazing. That is some amazing footage. The first time I went to vegas was in 92' and I had wondered what vintage vegas was like.
This is when Vegas was Vegas. It's obvious that Las Vegas has no historical society because they would've been out trying to save some of these old casinos and hotels. Even one of the last 1950's hotels we used to stay at was just recently leveled.
True. The people that are in Vegas now are corporations they dont care about history only money. They tore down some of the most unique buildings in history.
The footage is awesome but the music is totally unfitting. Also could've done without the screwy transition effects. Very nice video on mute though =)
Can't get enough of the old footage, thank you for the post.
It's sad, these classic casinos icons, blown to hell for billion dollar mega-resorts. 35-40MPH+ on the LV Blvd, a memory too.
The old Stardust, Flamingo especially-with no towers. They actually have these 2, 3 level Motels with the same name, same bright /Vegas meets Miami Beach look in Wildwood NJ..and that town wants to level THOSE for tacky boring condos. Gets to me..
WOW! Awesome footage! I was over at the Algeres Motel before they tore it down 2 years ago! Tropicana is still there and will remain. They are going to re-rennovate it again (yay!). R.I.P. Stardust along with it's origional section of the Royal Nevada (which was the Stardust Auditorium in this film footage). Sahara and Riviera still stand.
@MrMemories You do know that American car models have (and still are) usually released in September of the previous year? Since there are no Christmas lights... I'm guessing this was shot in October 1959.
Great archive.

Great footage, but the music sucks. Why not pick something that has the flavor of the era instead of generic pop?

George GOBEL?.. I Loved George Gobel.
Anyway... you should RE-DO this video... a lot of technology in the, nearly, 4 years since you uploded this GEM!

Rare and historical, you should send a copy of this to the Las Vegas Council, they might wish to Archive it, it really is a rare document.
All those forgotten buildings and resorts, living again in this production, Suave!!!
