  • Great archive.

  • If you want to see old Vegas watch the original Oceans Eleven!! Great movie.

  • What is the name of the song & band?

  • Great footage, but the music sucks. Why not pick something that has the flavor of the era instead of generic pop?

  • great footage !

  • So much for the good years.

  • What is the name of this song?

  • Could you please tell what the name of the song is? I searched on all the lyrics I could understand and Google came back with zip! Somebody earlier claimed it was a song by Depeche Mode, but the lyrics don't match...must be pretty obscure if Google can't find it. Of course I may have Goofle-d...Thanks...wonderful, nostalgic images from when Vegas wasn't self-conscious about being kitschy...they're obviously "upscale" now (roll eyes...)

  • George GOBEL?.. I Loved George Gobel.

Anyway... you should RE-DO this video... a lot of technology in the, nearly, 4 years since you uploded this GEM!

  • Rare and historical, you should send a copy of this to the Las Vegas Council, they might wish to Archive it, it really is a rare document.

All those forgotten buildings and resorts, living again in this production, Suave!!!

  • @DSVOP Yeah I also have some old 8mm film from 58 that I am going to have transferred to digital. But you have a great idea

  • simply awesome

  • it looks so...empty!

  • Love the film. May I ask how you transferred it to video without the flickers? It looks great, and it color!!! Thanks.

  • Simply Fascinating.

  • This is a great video. Thanks for re-posting it. It works well with this song too.

    Excellent.

  • Awesome footage. My father opened the Desert Inn with the likes of Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy. He was in a trio, that was the house band in the Lady Luck Lounge for eight years.

  • I was born and raised in Vegas. I haven't even see some of these places before. It is really different from the Vegas I know.

  • Hey I liked the music, how did you switch this out? I haven't watched this for a bit but had it in my favorites, all of a sudden the "Something to do" is gone? Hey?

  • I'm 18 born and raised in vegas... I wish I could have grown up here in the 50's sooo bad. I loved hearing my grandparents talk about vegas back then.

  • @outofsteplv One of the best cities and now it's screwed up.

  • Now that's the Vegas my mom grew up in. Looks so different now. Thanks for posting!

  • Wow, look at old vintage vegas. Amazing. That is some amazing footage. The first time I went to vegas was in 92' and I had wondered what vintage vegas was like.

    Thanks for sharing your video.

  • btw, to have a video camera in the 50s meant u were ballin. haha whose video is this

  • i like th song, how sings and what is the name of the song ? thanks

  • depeche mode/ something to do.

  • what I would do to be there to see Bobby Darin performing...

  • i would kill to see that!!

  • Eons before that blind mother fucker pussified Vegas with his mall theme hotels. This is cool. Music still sucks though.

  • I am impressed with the video you posted, great job. Its good to see las vegas back when it was las vegas, and not corporate vegas.

  • Its Corporate America

  • Great presentation. Thanks for putting this together.

  • very cool! we r going there in 2 weeks!!

  • cars parked on the strip,no way that will happen now

  • the hotel signs were taller than the hotels themselves back then - brilliant! How things have changed.

  • This is when Vegas was Vegas. It's obvious that Las Vegas has no historical society because they would've been out trying to save some of these old casinos and hotels. Even one of the last 1950's hotels we used to stay at was just recently leveled.

  • True. The people that are in Vegas now are corporations they dont care about history only money. They tore down some of the most unique buildings in history.

  • I couldn't have said that better myself.

  • the years of the "brat pack"; frank, dean, sammy

  • Joey and sometimes Peter, too!

  • The footage is awesome but the music is totally unfitting. Also could've done without the screwy transition effects. Very nice video on mute though =)

  • Can't get enough of the old footage, thank you for the post.

It's sad, these classic casinos icons, blown to hell for billion dollar mega-resorts. 35-40MPH+ on the LV Blvd, a memory too.

The old Stardust, Flamingo especially-with no towers. They actually have these 2, 3 level Motels with the same name, same bright /Vegas meets Miami Beach look in Wildwood NJ..and that town wants to level THOSE for tacky boring condos. Gets to me..

    OK, im venting..lol Thanks again!!

    Al

  • Vid priceless music worthless

  • FABulous video! I've lived in LV since 1969 - love it here and love coming across vintage film on this great town!

  • Amazing documentation. I love when family vacations include such fine filming of the surroundings; and not just *family*. 5 stars!!

  • WOW! Awesome footage! I was over at the Algeres Motel before they tore it down 2 years ago! Tropicana is still there and will remain. They are going to re-rennovate it again (yay!). R.I.P. Stardust along with it's origional section of the Royal Nevada (which was the Stardust Auditorium in this film footage). Sahara and Riviera still stand.

  • oops...saw a 1960 Ford Falcon. Can't be from the late 50's, but good footage of a cool, goneby era

  • @MrMemories You do know that American car models have (and still are) usually released in September of the previous year? Since there are no Christmas lights... I'm guessing this was shot in October 1959.

  • thanks for this. just got back from Vegas!
