  • Hi, - Regarding the error you are getting - sounds like you may have to clear the cookies on your machine. They may be blocking certain pages from loading. Its very easy to clear them and you should clear cookies as part of your regular computer maintance - just go to internet options - then security - then preferences - then cookies - then clear all cookies - then reload the page and you should be all set.

Take care and keep on rocking!

  • How much did your teeth cost?

  • no shit, you made me a better guitar player

  • with guitar scale, you follow the first note, example if you started with the Last String 3rd fret, you be playing scale of a G note. how does it apply if you started with different string like G string?

  • Everyone that says that you talk too much is full of shit. All the talking is good explanation. Keep it up mate. Don't mind the sh**heads here...

  • @Slackware10 still too much explanation. guitar is feel , audible and visual

  • I learn a lot what i wanted to learn a long time ago.

  • yooo you should do a vid on triads...thats how i'm gettin a feel of the tonality outside of the chords like with wierd ass jazz chord progressions, and you can sound good only switchin major minor or diminished triads to these crazy changes...food for thought!

  • Nice Video! Thanks for the help!

  • Thanks a lot dude. I really appreciate this video. I have been playing for a month and I really need more videos like this to teach me. This is a very helpful video.

  • habla menos y toca mas xDDD... buen viedo xDD

  • its good.. im getting some education here.., ty alot dude

  • thanks for this video.. hope you put of this.. its a big help for me who just started playing blues lors of thanks rock on!,,!'

  • that's actually a pretty good lesson, you should try to explain target notes, the difference between hitting chord tones and non-chord tones

  • dude dayum dat help A LOT

    tnxxxxxx!!!!!!

    :D

  • i dont know why u say "u can use f dorian" over an f minor chord instead of the c aeolian. f dorian is exactly the same notes as c aeolian. ur right about focusing on the new tonality with each chord but i mean f minor is almost the same scale as c minor

  • its just easier for beginners to see it as f dorian than c aeolian

well it is for me anyways

  • a string tree is just that little thingy on the guitar head that typically gives extra tension to the E and B strings so they stay on the nut better (on vid little above the Fender logo on the head).

Never tried it, but appearantly changing the string tree actually gives a different sound (more full if you use graphite) to the E and B strings..

  • if u stay in Bmin pentatonic in these 3 chords,u still sound ok.there s no need to switch scales all the time

  • Yeah I've been playing for a year and I don't know wtf a String Tree is, so lay off dude, and quit being dick.

  • you re a very talented teacher. Thanks for the lessons. (Im 60yrs. and keep learning guitar)

  • is that a circular tree on your fender dave? coz i dont think original strats have a circular string tree right?

  • i dont know what ur seeing

  • im talking about the string tree? dont you know what that is? why not try to research.. its obvious that youre not a guitarist.. haha

  • in fact i have been for four years, excuse be for not knowing what a string tree is, and instead of being a dick you could have just said so, thats the problem with people on youtube it is the most anti social site ( i know that is not its purpose) but you'd think people could be a little civil. i bet that if you asked a few guitarists what a string tree was they wouldn't know either. what is it, there's a start, is it that much harder to be helpful.

  • I have also been playing for awhile and i know music theory and etc and i have never heard of a freaking string tree. And i totally agree with you. I bet he just made it up.

  • thank you, so im not crazy

  • you awsome dude god job

  • I think all guitar teachers should watch these vids and learn HOW TO TEACH - great job!

  • thank you i like your positive attitude and your explaining in a simple way

  • I will buy the FENDER in Serbia for now.

Thank you for lesson - good lesson.

  • srbe na vrbe =U=

  • Dude, you're a wicked guy. You're very encouraging. Most people as good as you would be so stuck up, and try to show how much smarter they were than anyone else...you're a really chill guy who shows people they can be whatever they want, just work at it. You are awesome, thank you for existing.

  • thanks for the comment man thats just what i was going to say.

  • awsome vid.... just wonderd if it's you, david, who always screems from behind when marty have lessons ?

  • hey its fred durst!

    just this one has talent...

  • His guitar sounds so good.

  • I love that you take the time to explain this stuff so thoroughly.

  • thanks alot...

  • good teacher

    thank you

  • im good to guitar but i got one problem i just cant use a pick is it something about how i hold it or what is it ? i just cant

  • thank you appreciate it man love that guitar

  • he talks like we're babies :P

    but it's really good

  • 9:25 onwards i agree with everything you say.

and thanks for that lesson! i was never bold enough to try a different scale over different chord tones in a progression... but now that i know its possible... youve just opened up a new world of lead playing for me! thanks!

  • does this only worl with the seven chords?(gm7,...)

  • no hes just playing blues

7th dominate's are ment to be for blues

  • no it works with everything. If they were all major chords, you'd just play F major scale over F major chord and so on.

Or if you were doing augmented chords you'd play augment scale or arpeggios of the chords.

  • I have asked the question that you answered in this video to many self taught (good) guitar players who didn't know what I was talking about. They knew the "relates to all" but didn't know or want to talk about the "seperate event" idea.

  • smooooth

  • How do you get so beautiful sound. Do you use some effect pedal or something? I would really like to get that kind of sound too. Keep it up, thanks.

  • great lesson & great teacher !!!

  • His lessons are awesome

  • great teacher, great advice, great video.

  • how do I figure out the Cm7 and Gm7 arpegios?

  • same pattern its like a moveble bar chord

  • Just play the notes in a Cm7 chord or Gmy chord - play the individual notes

    rock on!

    DT

  • Where are your videos Deep Sea Seamus?

  • nice sound and that helped thanks

  • Anyone know what effects he's using to make the guitar sound all bluesy like that?

  • its his switch on the guitar its on treble and he has a clean channel

  • this video is great, really helped me understand arpeggios alot more. thanks for this lesson david!

  • Can someone please put up a video on how to use scales to solo !!!!! i love the way slash plays so iguess those kinds of solos

  • Thanks man. not a bad philosophy for life either

  • sweet great lesson this is one the best ive seen on you tube

  • Sweet guitar.

  • hi dave i wonder if you could help me,i bought a les paul copy guitar off ebay ,it sounds great and plays great, but i noticed when i went to play sweet child of mine by gnr the first string at the 14th and 15th fret sound the same, could you please help me with this problem.thanks

  • buy new fingers

  • hahaha ! Sweet..

  • yes, eleven more, and three gorrilla fingers.

  • the 15th fret is to high.... take it to guitar center or some guitar store and ask them to shave down the 15 or so fret. =) if you want it in more detail just send me a message

  • It could be that your action is too low. To sort it out look at the bridge of your guitar (search on google images if you don't know what that part is) and there should be two parts on either side that you can unscrew with your fingers (although you may have to take the strings off your guitar first depending on how hard is it to turn) If you unscrew them just a little bit (it should be anti-clockwise) this will raise your action and should allow you to play all the frets well with no fret buzz.

  • dave ur a great guitar techer

  • ok so do i need to learn every note thats on every fret

  • dude, best arpeggio explanation EVER.

  • This lesson is awesome

  • what label got your guitar? a strat with humbuckers???

  • Yeah man, my main guitar (since I'm still pretty new and I was on a budget) is a Squier FatStrat. It's got 2 Seymour Duncan humbuckers STOCK!!! It's a great guitar. I never thought I'd be so happy with a Strat, lol.

  • A seymour duncan on a Squier ? Are you seriouse..? Was it one of those classic 60s vibe strats ?

  • I'm dead serious bro. Those things are great, and since I just play around (I don't do gigs or anything) I play through a Roland Micro-Cube, which has everything from jazz to metal amp models. Those things give it the perfect sound (for stock p-ups anyway) for all the models on there. But I don't think it was a classic vibe. The writing on the headstock looks kind of old comic style writing, but it didn't say anything about that at the store. There was a classic vibe Tele there though!

  • i think theyd actually duncan designed humbuckers am i right?. theyre kinda like the epiphone/squier of seymour duncan. theyre good, better than standard squier pups, but not true seymour duncans

  • Well yeah, but like you said, they stomp the hell out of the stock Squier single coil p-ups. I love the tone of them though, and I honestly would compare them to actual Seymour Duncan's. They're really, really, really good. I don't even know how to explain it, I just never thought I'd be as stoked on a Squier as I am.

  • where are the jam tracks?

  • click on the link in blue in the text box to the right of the video and we will email them to you - 3 for free from next level guitar

    rock on!

    DT

  • THanks I got'em

  • nice fender!

  • u know what guitar is that?

  • big apple strat, american made all the way baby....

  • thank u sooooo much !!! ive always wanted 2 make my own solos as i randomly play thank u!!

  • its something very simpel, but if it doesen't gets explaind the right way, arpeggios becomes very hard to understand.

very good lesson, and thanks for the link!

(sorry for my english, I'm danish :D)

  • kicking butt haha thats so funny

    rock on!

    DT

  • what is your favorite kind of music and who are some of your favorite musicians Dave?

  • what kind of guitar is that?????

  • the guitar I used in this lesson is a mid 90s USA made Fender Big Apple Stratocaster - Fender only made them for a few years - came stock with 2 seymore duncan humbuckers.

    rock on!

    DT
