@joeydog999 You have no idea about music. That horse shi-t, as you call it, is a skill of a musical genius. I don't think it would much interesting, if he only just played the melody. It would be way too blunt and simple.. probably just like yourself.
If you ever get a chance to see him in concert - GO. The price just watch him play is unbelievable - he is amazing with his style of picking and creating tones!
Absolutely Beautiful! This may be sacrilegious to say, but I don't think that even God could play better than Tommy E. Probably better to say that God taught him ALL he knew about playing guitar.
An oldie and a gracie ...played with excellent crafty and he blesses himself before starting out just in case the "lord" sends a chariot for to carry him home ;o)
Magnificent! The best rendition of Amazing Grace I have EVER heard on any instrument, and Tommy makes it sound like he has a bagpipe, banjo, organ and vilolin accompanying him at various places in the song! Tommy, you clutched our hearts! Thanks to my husband, Steve, for showing me this.
Oh so hard for my brain to wrap around so much talent in one human being....while I was thinking, this man was doing a million times faster and ever so well. Its always a pleasure to observe such talent wherever you find it. I hope Tommy gets to play forever.
Excellent stuff. Sound of the guitar reminds me of Adrian Legg, who has dabbled in building pickups and amps (as I understand it) and is a fine player himself. Check him out if you like this!
@ISignedUpBefore TE is what I want to be when I grow up... lets see, I'm 56 now... hmm? Where does the time go? This guy has it wrapped-up sweeter than anything I've ever heard. ( Tommy, your the Best ! ! ) We all wish we could play like you, but you know what, I hope you never stop hearing that ! ! Thank you Tommy !
@ISignedUpBefore I was watching this video, and I just KNEW that it reminded me SO much of a guitarist that I used to LOVE!... I read your comment, and it suddenly came back to me!...The wonderful Mr Legg...and it's taken me right back to the times that I used to watch him at the Half Moon in Putney...Absolute MAGIC!
I used to think TE was the best-hearted, most gracious showoff I had ever seen. After 3 years of listening to his songs and covers, DVD videos, YouTube videos, and one live performance I realize it is just because he does all of the showoff moves used by other guitarists as a matter of course: that is just how good he is. His flamboyance is necessary for the sound he wants to produce as one does not get the right sound without the right motion. Amazing excellence! Live long and well, Tommy!
@sidneyandherbie over the top might just be tommy, because he is so good your perception of over the top is that he is over the top compared to all other guitarists, when in actual fact, its just Tommy's ability.
I first saw this video about 3 years ago. It is still by far the best version of this song I've ever heard. I will forever be grateful to the world for giving us Tommy Emmanuel and his music.
@CDugan7 You can be grateful to the world if you want. For my self I am grateful to God for giving Tommy this talent and to Tommy himself for nurturing and growing it and allowing us to share it. Thank You Tommy
@sidneyandherbie thanks! i've notice it. and hear a low notes and confirmed it with playing along. to low but nice tone and great for showing more emotions. gues i'll have to use a thicker gauge for that tuning! thanks again and God bless!!!
@marshi09 you will see me do my best at amazing grace amongst the sidandherb vids - i put 13's on to try and keep my Taylor in tune - a bit tricky at times - regards from scotland
@marshi09 Thinner gauge is the answer, down tune the strings you have already will give you a buzz you really don't want. Go up 2 or 3 gauges string wise and then tune down 3 steps. Might be wrong as i'm sure others might allude to but give it a go!
@FuckinMetalBitchs saw this man 10 months ago, he was really honest about what microphones he had both inside and outside his beautiful guitars, his talent creates the most amazing sounds, both percussive and melodic. and none of it fake. Go and catch a live performance of this guy and it will confirm why at first you imagined that this sound could only ever be synthisised by machine, because he really is that good.!!!
CONTINUING... I had heard him play this version many times in person and on recording. When he started playing I was surprised to hear him playing it "straight"--and singing it. I quickly realized that, if he had played this version, it would have been all about him. As it was, the way he played it in the service, it was all about Amazing Grace. Yeah, he's got awsome chops, but there is so much more to this guy. He is one awsome human being.
I serve as a hospital chaplain, and a couple of years ago Tommy came to play for and interact with the campers and counselors at an adult cancer camp my hospital sponsors.
