The stock DB9 engine is 5.9 liters(5935cc) while the Prodrive DBR9s is closer to 6.0 liters (owing to different bore and stroke). The C6R engine is 7.0 liters (same as the stock C6 Z06 engine) while the stock C6 is 6.0 liters.
Im sorry the Z06 makes 505hp and the C6.R doesnt make 625hp. The reason why the C6.R and the C5-R appeared to not have the power on the straights is because they way they like to tune the ECU and intake runners (longer runners make more torque, shorter produces high rpm hp) for more torque. Thats why the only time a C6.R would break is because of the carbon driveshaft failing under the amount of torque. The C6.R makes only 595hp on E85.R fuel but makes 690-725lb-ft of torque.
The DBR9s that were in ALMS last year were NOT funded by Aston Martin even though they were run directly by Prodrive. They had Pirelli tires and not Michelins like the Corvettes. The Prodrive-built DBR9s are running a 6.0 liter engine while the C6.Rs have 1 liter more displacement than a stock C6. GT1 is dead in ALMS which is why customer car C6s should be built by Pratt & Miller right now.
Corvette team won the Le Mans 4 out of 5 years... all of them 1-2 wins. Looks like Americans are dominating the Europeans with the turn n burning now. ;)
corvette - wins with a million dallor budget against a litte english factory that build the aston gtr. a race with a facotry build aston matin (aston martin is owned by ford) against a factory build corvette - i think this would be cool (or better fort gt (back in leans) against corvette). be ut the last years corvette did a good job. but in the last year the are beaten by the maserati team in a lot of races.
Let me correct myself: Corvette C5.R and C6.R won 5 out of the last 6 years at Le Mans 24 hr. :) And please, stop with the petty excuses... million dollar budget, this, and that. America is coming back, not only on the race track, but the road, with the C6 Z06 beating Euro cars like Porsche 911s, Ferrari F430s, Lamborghini Gallardos, etc. on the street. I wish jealous Europeans would give America credit where it's most certainly due. :)
but i agree - in le mans corvette did a great job. they are a cool sportsmen and i hope that corvette starts in le mans even the next years. the corvette c5 was a horrible car with a cathastrophic suspension, the c6 is a lot better but a 911 beats a corvette arround the track and on the street. but i think corvette comes back - on the street it need a vew more years... but on the track they still there.
Pro Drive Aston Martin . . . little English factory team . . . you're funny. And there certainly is a lot more to racing than money; ask Honda and Toyota how they're doing in F1, despite the biggest budgets, even bigger than Ferrari.
I'd've liked to see the rest of it, but it looked like the Vette woke up and decided to nose out the A.M. there on the straight-away. They are the two top contenders in GT1 last I saw, with the Vette on top.
The AM is faster on the straights, but the Vette better in the bends. Corvette won Le Mans, and consequently overall last year. The 07' season should be exciting.
You got me looking again. The view from the C6 shows the AM coming up, slingshotting out of the curve to overtake the C6 for a moment. Then the C6 outruns it and... we lose the picture. AM sure is pushing the C6 in these races though. About the only one able to a couple years ago.
It's a stereotype that Euro-cars are better handlers and American cars are faster in straight line (certainly true in many cases.) I watched a lot of last years season, and the Vette would reel in the AM on the corners and spring off the corners better, but the AM would pull the Vette on long straights.
Yea, well... Haven't noticed. But, in any case. AM and Vette are practically even. The one car outperforms the other in one thing. It's also up to the skill of the driver, and to get that crucial fast exit.. and must not be stuck in traffic too long at a time

Corvette C6R: 7.0 liter pushrod OHV 16-valve V8
Stock Corvette C6: 6.0 liter OHV 16-valve V8 400hp
Stock Corvette C6 Z06: 7.0 liter OHV 16-valve V8 500hp
Stock Aston Martin DB9: 5.9 liter 48-valve V12 444hp

Yea... You got the facts all right... C6R has the same amount of horsepower as the DBR9 625

Actually, it's the other way around. Vette is better on the straights and A.M. has the Vette on the bends

cool video. 6.0 liter (or is it 5.9) 48-valve V12 Aston Martin DBR9 vs. 7.0 liter 16-valve V8 Corvette C6R.
