A pity that Mick's & Keith's ego were too big to acknowledge this extremely gifted guitar player. The RS definitively had their "gold era" whilst Mick Taylor graced their band.
Mick Taylor is one of the greatest musicians of his generation, his playing set the stones into becoming the greatest rock n roll band in the world. Also listen to the records he did with john mayall while still only a teen, mind blowing to think at that young age he replaced clapton and green after they left.
Mick Taylor's wonderfully evocative solos with The Greatest Rock and Roll Band are legend, and will continue to resonate down the years - thanks to you, soundshunter for taking the time to share this gem with us all. All the best to you for putting a smile on my face and many others.Cheers!!
Once I shed my Brian Jones bias....I came to accept Taylor. Jones was becoming a liability to the band and had to be let go. Sad story considering that Jones started the group. Time waits for no one is one of my favorite Taylor productions.
@Fooblestheclown Too bad so many others can't get their heads out their respective arses and make the same transmission and realization some 43 years after the Fact! Good on ya, Mate!
THE finest guitar player of his generation. He should never have left The Stones, I'm sure he had so much more to give. It would be great to have him back for the 50th anniversary tour (If there is one) leaving Woody and Keith to share rhythm guitar, and Mick given free rein to play lead.
Does anyone know for sure who played piano on this? Ian Stewart / Nicky Hopkins or someone else?? Would love to know - it beautifully compliments what must be a unique guitar solo - it amazes me more every time I hear it.........
'Made my evening listening to this - 'Something very special about Mick Taylor and his playing - God bless him and NO, he hasn't lost it, he is still playing some great stuff and one of the nicest people you could meet - hopefully he will be guesting with the Stones again before too long...watch this space.....
I just can imagine what Stones would have been if this genius has stayed with them till today! Humanity would have been richer for miriads of tremendously nice songs and guitar pieces created by Stones and this guy!
i met mick taylor in london ontario in about 1986.. he told me he wished it had worked out & that he did indeed have some regrets about leaving the band..in my humble opinion he is missed by the band.. altho ronnie is ok in his own way, he certainly pales in comparison..
One f the most beautiful ballads in the Stones canon of work. And that's saying something. I miss Mick Taylor! What was it about the Stones that they couldn't handle musical virtuosos? Thanks for posting this
Everything came together so perfectly on this song on Goat's Head Soup - the lyrics, the sweeping strings, the rippling piano fills and Mick Taylor's guitar soaring like an eagle over the top. It gives you the shivers ! Thanks for the upload, soundshunter !
@BROOKSNLV Hi there ! I agree with you. His melodic playing beats the pants off the so-called virtuosos who seem only to specialise in the widdle, widdle, repeated exercise type of playing. What did you mean by his best playing never got released ? With the Stones or after them ?
Fluid, lyrical, and melodic guitar playing beyond compare.Shame on the glimmer twins for denying Mick Taylor reasonable song writing credit and a share in the royality income.
Sweet

Cómo toca la guitarra Mick Taylor. Es uno de los guitarristas más finos y técnicos que he escuchado, es una pena que dejase los Stones.

what you can do over a I-IV-I chord sequence with a loud Les Paul is OK but is a bit old hat.He has great feel and tone though !.

It´s beautiful but the volume is very low, does anybody have a louder copy? Do you know from which bootleg it is (if it is)?

There are only 3 equal places on Olimpus Summit.
One for Jimi Hendrix, one for Jimmi Page,
and one for Mick Taylor.
Others guitar players sit on second row, awaiting...
