I want to download some windows stuff like "windows live movie maker" how do I do that on a MacBook, It always says "this cannot run on DOS mode" or something like that, what do i have to do?
@SuperNavi64 Those programs need to run in Windows. You will need an emulator and a copy of Windows. A free Emulator is VirtualBox but you have to find a Windows Install CD someplace. - Also since you have a Mac you can edit movies with iMovie. iMovie should be already installed on your computer.
@SchoolFreeware yep it is, and thank u very much, but i do want something else. What about a web cam? like on my old computer i had Camstudio. and i would record stuff. what can i use to record inside the computer on a mac? u are a helpful person ^0^
@SuperNavi64 I do not know of any free video screen recording software for Mac. Snapz Pro X from Ambrosia Software is what I use for the Mac. They offer a free trial.
It works fine for me, right up until I try to install Turbo Pascal. I did exactly what it says, slected C, \TP\Disk1, Install to Hard Drive, Start Install, then is just says "Cannot Execute Unpack.com, S)kip file, A)bort?". I watched your video several times, did each step EXACTLY as you did, but it still gives me the problem.
@celcius119 A Win32 program is made for Windows. DOSBox will not run a Windows program. You need to get the dos program (if that company made a version that ran on DOS) or run the windows one in a Windows virtual machine.
@SchoolFreeware Ok cool, I got it working now but it's slow as all hell. Ctrl+f12 doesn't work on my machine to speed up the cpu, do you have any idea how to do that? It's real unpleasant to play right now.
@celcius119 In the DOSBox manual: MAC OS you can try using cmd(applekey) together with Ctrl if the key doesn't work eg. cmd-ctrl-F1, but some keys may still need remapping (in Linux too).
This is awesome! Thank you so much - your tutorial was very, very helpful - just opened qbasic in DOSBox and have an immense feeling of accomplishment XD
I typed "cd quake" but then I got a message that said " unable to change to: quake" then I tried quake106 which was the name of the folder (I downloaded the shareware demo from id.com and it said "unable to change to: quake106" I'm confused with what I'm supposed to do so I need some advice.
Thanks for the video. Is there a way to make DOS take up the whole screen? I'm messing around with qbasic but I don't like how it's in a little window. Can you make it take up the whole screen?
@takedown316 Make sure that you have the download file for Mac. There is a Windows version. The download file contains the DosBox application. All you need to is drag and drop the DosBox application or folder on your hard drive and you will be all set.
Thanks for posting this video. I got the DosBox program and played some DOS games that I have not played in a long time (Like my favorite Commander Keen series). Thanks for showing how to use the program to run games.
I do not have SimCity so I am taking a blind shot at this. If the program comes on CD, place the CD in the drive and at the DOSBox start up type MOUNT D D:\ -t cdrom
Then mount the programs folder. Change the directory to the d drive. Run the installer from the cd rom (Check the SimCity Manual) normally, it is setup or install. After the program is installed, go to the c drive and run the program from the installed directory. DOSBox's manual link is in the video's description. Hope this helps
It seems that F1 is for player 1 start and F2 is for player 2 start. F10 is for setup/options. On the Mac, F10 is one of the spaces/expose commands, so you will have to change the Mac's settings for spaces/expose in the Macs System Preferences application, if you want to change options for your game.
Great video, If you need any help getting your videos or channel exposed, i use a service called thetubeviews . net it has helped 5 of my videos get ranked on the first page
If the program has a file extension of .app then it is probably a native Macintosh application. Most DOS games have .exe file extensions. Double check to see if it is a DOS program. If Aladdin.app has an icon, when looking at the file on the Mac, then it stands to reason the program is a Mac program and not a DOS program.
thank you!! but I still have one problem I want to run a old game (aladdin) but it won't let me it said [aladdin.app] and when I typed in aladdin or [aladdin.app] it said illegal command help please?

Question: how would saving games with memory capabilities factor into running DOS off an emulator?

Don't put DOS programs into the Macintosh' Applications folder. For the Mac, DOS applications are plain documents.
Mounting a real CD-ROM on the Mac:
mount d /Volumes/ + the name of the CD-ROM
