  • Now that im older,i appreciateThe Carpenters even more.

  • I was just thinking, "gosh, if they just hadn't called her fat, then maybe she wouldn't have suffered and maybe would still even be alive." It then occurred to me that although her death was tragic, it probably saved the lives of millions of girls/women because of the awareness.

  • Poor thing. She looks good to me. It's a shame how shallow this society is and how it has been for a long time, ruining a lot of lives in the process.

  • CHUBBY??? If she's cubby then I'm an elephant!!!

  • "They're not drugs; they're prescription medicine!" LOL

  • I will never understand why they couldn't just put her damn drum kit in the front if they were really concerned about the audience seeing her! Putting her drums in the front or on a raised platform would have been just fine. It's not like she couldn't play-- she was very good!

  • thats rediculous! chubby??! that is obsurd! people are so messed up! she was beautiful!

  • "Superstar" is a masterpiece... so haunting and beautiful. Gets me everytime.

  • This movie has a number of inaccuracies. The article where she was called "chubby" never existed. Another instance is the poster @1:45, that's the cover of the "Made in America" album not made until 1981. Also it should be noted that this is a polished version of the story so the family dynamics and relationship isn't what it seems. The actress herself said this was a "whitewashed" version of the Carpenter's story.

  • who is that actress playing the role of Karen? she sounds exactly like Karen Carpenter! OMG!

  • @daynolism they used karens vocals on it!

  • OMG I love that song.... RIP Karen Carpenter and Luther Vandross

  • Chubby Sister?? What karen was beautiful!!! whoever said that of her, is full of as a christmas turkey.

  • i love how she looks on the elevator door lol

  • Previously, the "CHUBBY SISTER" comment (written by a music critic) had been silenced, "bleeped out" on this youtube video. Karen Carpenter now reads those words out loud on youtube--the words which lead to her own death. Eventually, she was taken from this world in February 1983 because of those words :-(

  • @mredominik Not true. She began dieting at 16 using the Stillman diet of high proteins and low carbs.

  • 1:45 I found a mistake in the film, you can see the "Madein America" album cover , album to be released six years later ...

  • the movie depicts that karen and richard had a insestual relationship, they relied on each other until both went through puberty!!

  • @LusiciousGoldieXXX Um... I'm not seeing that in this movie. I don't know what YOU'RE watching.

  • 8:50: "They're not drugs. They're prescription medicine..."

  • superstar . the best song they ever did, it showed just how crystal clear karens voice was. its still so hard to believe that its been 26 years since she passed away, i miss that voice , that angelic voice, none of todays female artists, as good as they are , can ever compare to karen. miss you so much

  • @60srocker46 Yeah, good tune. What's sorta ironic about it is that the writers (Bonnie and Delaney/Leon Russel) had been messing around with the tune for years and had a working title called Groupie--before the Carpenters covered it.. The lyrics are about a female groupie who becomes obsessed with a rock star after she has a casual sexual encounter with him backstage---not exactly the sort of topic that squared well with Carpenters squeaky clean public image back then

  • funny to be the one who wrote that and killed her...

  • @Guldmedalj Na, that was just a rumor that got misreported as fact, which then wound up in the film. That statement (about her weight) wasn't in the article or any articles, in fact. Also, eating disorders don't get set off by a single negative comment. It's complex and multifaceted disorder. If every negative comment about weight led to anorexia, 90 percent of girls in the US woulds never make it out of puberty alive

  • Anyone else think that the actress who plays her looks a bit like Emma Watson?

  • @EDzMyHomie Hey, i'm trying tu sub this movie in spanish, but I can't understand what did they say from 8:06 to 8:20 can you help me, please?

  • @abysskater KAREN: "I get such butterflies." AGNES: "Karen, you're not eating." KAREN: "I'm... I'm just excited about being home. Besides, I'm watching my weight." HAROLD: "You look wonderful. I'll bet on that tour you have all those fellows beating down your door." KAREN: "Yeah, right, Dad."

  • I have enjoyed watching this, thank you, to whoever went through the trouble to record it and post! Thank you:) I loved her voice!!

  • that just shows, that when people make negitive comments about someone physical apperiance, it really can cause damange. whether or not you mean what you say, it can ruin someones life.

  • I always said that the media and public were at fault for Karen's death. She was already showing signs of anorexia, but being called names like that in the media is what threw her into overdrive. It's a shame she met such a tragic end. She was far from fat. Though this music was long before my time I've always loved The Carpenters since the first time I heard them. God bless you Karen!

  • @BabyDayDay31382 There actually was no "chubby sister" article in Billboard. After this TV movie, Billboard got hate mail, but they were all, "WTF? We'd never write anything like that!"

  • @BabyDayDay31382 I truly believe that the media and the business makes most of them develop eating disorders and addictions. It truly does. Because the media loves perfection. It's such a backstabbing industry.

  • Used to put 6d in a juke box to listen to these!

  • The actress playing Karen Carpenter looks a tad like a young Anne Bancroft to me.

  • CHUBBY?!?!! WTF!? I must be a effing whale then!! are you freaking kidding me?! The person that said that deserves to rot in hell.

  • Richard really regretted this being made from what I've heard and seen. At the time it was made though, he thouTght that he should have it done before someone else did. The book, Little Girl Blue, is probably a very accurate biography. In it, the mom really gets blamed for a lot. She favored Richard and wasn't at all demonstrative of affection. Lots of people thought that she was a bitch. The dad was really nice according to the book. I rember the day Karen died. I was heartbroken.

  • @cyphrinfinity that's definitely part of it, but she was always painfully shy too, she felt more comfortable in the background. And her mother always made Richard out to be the real star of the family, so she never felt that she deserved it. Sad really.....

  • CHUBBY SISTER? CHUBBY FUCKTARD IS WHAT YOU ARE.

  • Fuck Billboard who said Karen Carpenter was chubby. Karen was beautiful! I don't blame the guys trying to bust down her down. I think I would've been one of those groupies.

  • just love that voice, thats what its all about, shame that the media makes and breaks you, as always.

  • There are two things I noticed. She looked into the mirror that made her look fat. We used to have them in the fun houses when I was a kid. They would distort your image. So everytime Karen looks in a mirror she sees herself as fat no matter how thin she was. The other is, she wanted to stay behind the drums, but the people around her were constantly controlling her. They wanted her out front, and they would not listen to her. Then she gets home and mom starts to control.

  • She wanted to be behind those drums, because she love to play, and they were her security blanket. Here was again, you can see how everyone wanted to control her.

  • Reasons of why many famous go to the pills... because of the criticism of people. Bad people who dont make the money they make just only watching tv and drinking tea......

  • Karen was already suffering from self esteem issues and to read the piece in the media just made things worse, people think ,the next time you say something to another person that might attack their self esteem have a thought of what could happen to them, just as what happened to Karen. We sometimes speak without realising the harm we might cause.

You just never know if others can take it, help prevent the same thing that happened to Karen, many people out there are suffering in silence.

  • i've had eating disorder for 4 years off and on. there are times where i feel like i really have a handle on things and then there are times where it truely does completely takes over my life, but even when i feel like i doing okay with things every little comment that people say weather its a complement or insalt i always relate it to my weight or the way i look. 1 guy at my work told me i was "kinda chubby'' it was a major trigger for me. i cried while i was out on the sales floor

  • @cpotts339 and purged my dinner that night threw exercise for 3 1/2 hours on the treadmill. people really dont know how much the things they say can trigger or reinforce an issue

  • whoever wrote that article deserved to die- not karen. i cant beleive she actually believed what she read! :(

  • @dalivsta I really not impressed with the actress portraying Karen in this movie I think that Karen Allen should of got the part as she resembles Karen Carpenter so much face wise etc.?

  • Isn't it amazing that she never had voice lessons and was THIS GOOD?!! ....yet she wanted to be known as the drummer who sang rather than the singer who played the drums.

  • Isn't it amazing that she never had voice lessons and was THIS GOOD?!!

  • Wow that is impressive. Luther Vandross covered a Carpenters song! Sweet!!!

  • The culture of thinness is just mind control to benefit some a-holes who want to make money. It got taken to the extreme, because it taps into survival, self-esteem, anxiety, worthy-of-love issues all at the same time. Those who profit and benefit from it are mostly advertisers and mentally ill fashion designers. That's why this world is so crazy--the crazy get the run of the place.

  • It bothers me how her mother is so concerned about Karen's weight when it's ok for Richard to take drugs to help him sleep. HELLO...it's just as bad!

  • @JeniBurton213 Not in her mind. Crazy people don't always think straight.

  • @PrincessKLS See people like you really piss me off, she was NOT CRAZY, she was sick, get that straight dumbass.....

  • This is truely sad to see her worrying about her weight when she was already skinny.

They're not drugs, they're perscription meds. Haha wow.

  • Yes, it was definitely wrong for that person, who ever they were, to call her "chubby." It was not only inaccurate, but very insensitive. But you have to remember that that was only a trigger for her developing anorexia. Yes, other peoples' opinions, words and actions can really hurt and damage us but we're still responsible for ourselves. If Karen had been healthy to begin with, she would've been able to let that comment go in one ear and out the other.

  • It's so sad how one little comment, whether it be true or false can kick off something like that!!:(

  • i still dislike her mother.

  • i can't believe anyone would call her chubby..she was so beautiful.. if she was chubby then i must be a whale...heaven got another beautiful angel that day :/ RIP Karen.

  • Their mum was wrong to keep giving Richard pills, According to this she's the one that gave him his first sleeping pills and in this scene she's asking him if he is still taking the pils she gave him. Then he develops a drug addiction later on.

  • Actually, the report about 'chubby' was referring to Richard IRL, not Karen.

  • CHUBBY SISTER? CHUBBY SISTER? SHE WAS IN PERFECT SHAPE!

The person that called her chubby, is a stupid, dinosaur poop, asshole who has no intention of living.

  • @nikkimoll I agree..Stupid SOB

  • @nikkimoll It never happened, one article called Richard chubby not Karen.

  • That's "chubby", huh? Whatever! Who the hell said that all men are into "stick figures"? When I was growing up, the girls we considered fine were thick in the bust, hips, and butt. We pretty much ignored the bony girls. Hasn't changed much for me as a grown man.

  • People forget what you say, people forget what you do,but people don't forget if you'd hurt their feeling.

We should look in a person what she/he has,not what the person doesn't have.

    R.I.P,Karen.

  • I would kill the guy that said she was chubby. May he burn in hell for being responsible for her spiral to death!.

  • From the movie, we can tell that Richard Carpenter in real life has been and is still is the loving brother towards her sister Karen.

  • Karen quoted these exact words, "You can never be too rich or too thin." Well, I guess you CAN be too thin because that was, essentially, the cause of her death =( ... In the process, though, people suffering from eating disorders are destroying their bodies - basically a slow suicide. The body becomes compromised by the disease, mainly the cardiovascular system, the direct cause of Karen's demise, and organ failure is often inevitable (and often irreversible).

  • wtf. how was she even chubby???? shes skinny!

  • I like this video, but honestly feel it does not do justice to what a great talent she was. I suppose there are a "few' inaccuracies , so why hasn't there been a better "docu-grama" made about her life. In so many ways, she has been forgotten even though she had that flawless voice. Maybe someday.

  • @louise4053 dont worry hollywood is remaking every other movie, why not this one right?

  • just ONE word...thats all it takes :(

  • The movie is about a family of people who were human and loved each other dearly. We all have ways of coping with life. Some of those ways are healthy, and some are destructive. I'm not trivializing, I'm simply stating the common threads we all share.

  • who cares if she was a little chubby then?? dont even think she was really chubby, she looked ok! damn people who make her feel she wasnt beautiful!

  • @mushymunch28 You've got that right - for sure! Those people you refer to are just people who don't care in the least for their fellow human beings. They care only to find fault, whether there or not - "talking heads"

  • "women are supposed to be thin now" :::Cringing:::

  • @rubix110 We are supposed to be thin

  • @ultravioletskies07 Says who???

  • @louise4053 Says health. I refuse to believe that you are healthier at an obese weight, sorry.

  • @ultravioletskies07 you do not have to be thin to healthy, obese is not healthy but people can be healthy without being thin.

  • @louise4053 I know quite a lot about eating disorder tyvm, you truly did me no favor by posting that useless explanation on my page. My original comment on this video was to user, Rubix who was commenting on the line in the movie: "women are supposed to be thin"... I responded: "We are supposed to be thin?" and then you came back with the, "Says who?"... to which I refuted: "To health". I don't understand what you needed to say anything further for. As far as I'm concerned it was finished there.

  • What is the name of the song they are rehearsing???

  • @leroy214 the song is called "love is surrender"

  • i hate when they do that when an already thin girl gets an ED. it makes more sense if she is a bit chubby or curvy or average or something. its more relatable and less annoying

  • She was so insecure about her weight,

small comments became a very big

thing to this woman. People can be

so cold and judgemental of others, but

they can not see their own flaws and

    problems.

  • @wegersfour You're (unfortunately) so right in your observation.

  • If she was 'chubby' then I must be obese.

  • Very Sad movie! i kinda feel

    her pain in a way

  • @blackbarbiie89 Know just what you mean. Can't help but empathize with her problem.

  • I remember a long time ago somebody writing something about me which drove me to the depths of depression. It nearly ended my life.

  • Karen Carpenter had a very beautiful, pure and angelic voice

  • yea.. That's my happysong:)

  • hmm.. I think this movie shows just one side of Karen. From what I understand she had a great sence of humor! Who we see here is only the destructive, anorectic, poor Karen that most people NEVER got to know.

It's about time we made a movie focusing on the music, the cohesion within the band and Karens humoristic side, as well as the destructive side of the sister and brother duo.

I don't think Karen would have wanted us to remember her like this, feautured in this movie..

  • WOW.. They turned on the Sound... HOW big of them... THANK YOU.... This is what we wanted... You should never SILENCE one of the GREATEST VOICES EVER...

  • one thing they didnt think of was when she was singing love is surrender his voice was singing too ... they should have had him down there with her singing !

  • she was thin, whoever said she was chubby was on crack.

  • You've got that right. Crazy, stupid comment may have lead to the worsening to her disease.

  • well wmg totally ruind this for everyone yet again i was really getting into this movie aswell no point watching it now

  • :6 she read "a chubby girl? in the newspaper"

:24 siging "we've only just begun"

2:21 karen let the drumm and goes to sing "love is surrender

4:09 karen is angry for the situation, and

discovered that the idea was from her brother.

    4:56 karen sing superstar

8:02 her mother is worried about karen's diet. and karen remember that day when someone in the newspapper call her chubby. and mother told her that isn't fat now, on the contrary she's very thin.sorry my english but i'm spanish

  • No audio? Nooooooooo!!

  • @JoyNine7 its back now :)

  • Yay :) thanks for letting me know

  • Ahh, I think I know which track WMG has found and claimed to have a copyright claim on to get YT to block the audio for this part of the movie;the original version of the song "we've only just begun" done by another artist used in the ad richard saw on the TV in which he got inspiration for the Carpenters cover version of the song. Even so why does WMG have a claim on it-the artist could dead by now!

  • Even if the artist is dead WMG own the copyright to it. They dont want people listening to it for free because they are greedy!

  • I do like Olivia when she does not sing disco music. I agree with you: the union of Agnetha and Frida (and Bjorn and Benny, of course) makes the sound of ABBA but... Agnetha is prettier for my taste :-)

It doesn't matter. The Carpenters, with or without the credit that they deserved, is one of the best. Their fans know it.

The song "Solitaire", sung by Karen, is one of the best songs I have ever heard.

  • I totally agree with you. What more can I say?

Well, I go to sleep, sorry. I will contact you when I finish the downloading of the movie and see it completely. If you don't mind, of course.

    Огромное спасибо.

    Твой испанский друг.

  • Of course ABBA was very popular all over the world. But The Carpenters deserve to have the same popularity, I think.

As I always say: Karen Carpenter, Olivia Newton-John, Kate Bush and Agnetha Fältskog (of ABBA) are the best female voices of pop in the second half of the 20th century. This is my humble opinion.

  • Thanks.

It's a pity, in Spain there were and are almost totally unknown. I don't even know if they came to sing here.

  • thank you !!!

  • Doesn't work....just 10 seconds of worthless still image.

  • I apologize Nixe! I wasn't paying attention to the more info area. Anyways, thanks for saving the series and keeping this movie together!

  • Sure did, managed to watch the entire movie. But I just wished the ending could have been different. My ideal ending would be: Karen was saved at the hospital, a year later she met and married a successful, caring man. And on July 2009 Karen and her five children were performing guests at Michael Jackson's "This is it" concert in London.

  • I'm downloading every part of the film (audio and video) because here in Spain it is impossible to get this movie on DVD.

The program I use for downloading works only with youtube videos. Please what can I do? I have to have the other parts with sound and part 4 without sound? Please is it possible to upload this 4th part with audio, even in Rapidshare or Megaupload or so?

    Please I need help.

    -----------------------

We all miss you, Karen. Rest in peace and God bless you.

  • Nixe1007:

This would be fantastic! Please please do it, and send me a PM when you finish (if it is necessary).

I live in Spain and this movie has been never released here.

    Thank you very much.

  • Sorry, I had not check my inbox.

I'm going to start the downloading. See you when I finish.

Thank you so much. And God bless Karen.

  • What track in this part is owned by WMG? Most of the film music is owned by A&M aka Universal Music Group! Warner sucks!

  • Oh please! Let us hear. Music will die one day....b/c of stupid copyright.

  • This sucks! C'mon..it's part of a movie!

  • IT WAS A FILM!!!!! WTF?!

  • wmg sucks ass. i want sound!

  • Please, EDzMyHomie, can you send me a part 4? I would like to upload it somewhere else so everybody could see it...

  • the song in the minute:2:00 which is?

  • Comment removed

  • PLEASE!!!!! tell me the name of the song that she sings in the minute:1:50

  • From lip reading i'm guessing it's we've only just begun.

  • ok thank you very much :-)

  • do you know the video of the song "a song for you"? :S

  • No sorry. "/

  • Comment removed

  • really youtube?

of all the crap people upload you're gonna block the audio on the Karen Carpenter Story??

  • youtube sucks for blocking the audio!

  • Haya sido quien haya sido, póngaselo otra vez por favor!!!

  • ¿Quién fue el tonto que le quitó el sonido a este video?

  • that sucks that there is no audio

  • if i found out the media said something like that to my child i'd soo furious, be lke how dare you say that about my child, i'm the parent of the child not you people, i'll be the one telling my child if she/he needs to lose some weight.

  • I bet the journalist that called Karen"chubby" feels sad

  • I don't think that really happened - the one that was scared that Karen would realise just how much it was all about her wasn't a journalist that needed to put here down - druggie brother and paranoid person is who if you looked up the phsychology behind her demise is the main suspect.

  • the psycology was within Karen and what triggered it was a comment made by a tabloid

  • Thats close to the truth

  • I don,t think one can pin all the blame on Richard,it was to do with the way that both Karen and Richard were reared, the mother/parents was fussy and overprotective as far as is known.

  • Yeah, it's so easy to make Richard seem "bad guy", while Karen is always "sweet innocent angel", who was suppressed by her "druggie" brother. Don't make me laugh!

  • I'm always and forever be a Karen Carpenter fan for as long as i live!!!! It's your death anniversary on Feb.4~ miss you sooooo much:-( Sharifa

  • Thanks for posting this I haven't seen this in years they should put it on t,v more often

  • She has such a soothing voice. If I was her kid I would beg her to sing me to sleep.lol

  • its a shame the way the media puts pressure on women celebrities or not to lose weight! Even I feel the pressure and I am trying to recover from anorexia but it's hard with weight loss ads and shows this time of year!

    :(

  • i know havn't the media learn something from this, doesn't it hit them in the head why stars get into this stuff, get into rehab

  • Great movie!! i love the movie and their songs!!

  • it's amazing how much she looks like karen...wonder if she actually sang as well, or if it was just overdubs and lip synchs? val kilmer sang on the doors movie..i guess it could be possible. what a tragic loss. she was so beautiful..way to go media for making her go away.

  • Up to this point in this production the vocals are all actually Karen, except for the first partial rendition of "You'll Love Me" in a higher key.

  • yeah

  • she was NOT CHUBBY. i blame the media pressure for her anorexia and death!!!

  • Yes Avalon..no doubt that was crushing blow on her psyche to read that, and the beginning of her problem with anorexia, but its also about self-esteem & a good self-image. If she had that, she would be alive today....that I blame on the parents!
