@duchovny007 Actually this is real and nothing like the reactable. The reactable uses markers and has a completely different usage, interface, and style. The purpose of this is completely different and has unique applications nothing like the reactable. It's definitely real and you can download the applications for free on my website. ;)
you can make this yourself by making a large scale version of his simple multi touch pad that he made and hooking up a projector to it... the only thing is is that it would overheat very quickly
Hey. I see your interest in the touch mp4. my website has some product like that. check it out. for more info just go to my youtube channel and it's going to show you the name of my website, thanks!
Actually, this is self built (by me) multitouch table. It's not related to Microsoft Windows or Microsoft surface. It also is not trying to be a reactable since it doesn't use tangible objects and has completely different use cases and applications.
@cerupcat Yeah, for pong is maybe cool, but music... Sorry i don't wanna be rude, but it has no rhythm... I don't think anyone want to make a music through this app. Guess you want to make something like reacTable? You have to catch up!
@stahooo76 No, this is nothing like reactable. It's not meant to make live music nor does it use tangibles or have a interface like the reactable. This also has several applications unlike the reactable which is a single 'instrument'. This is NOT an instrument. It's meant for music exporation - not performance.
Not trying to be them - they are great the way they are. :)
Definitely approach a primary school to try out this with a group of children I am sure you would get a good reaction from staff and the kids would love it.
as I said I think it has possibilities for children with disabilities.
You could arrange a visit to meet someone at a primary school, probably the music co ordinator, and ask what they think.
I don't know much about the machine, but for small children i would say the value is getting a direct response from the hands. Keyboards and mice are fiddly for small hands and the programmes they use are limited and proscribed by others. It seems that whatever a childs hands did would transfer directly to what they saw and that's a lot of power and control for a small mind!
I would like to see this used in education. Children would learn a lot more if they had something as interactive as this in the classroom, as a child I would have been extremely excited if my teacher presented something as amazing as this.
I am a Primary teacher and I would love to use this with children as it's bigger scale and more interactive and instinctive to use than a mouse and keyboard for really little ones.
Fantastic, amazing! Well done Seth, I have sent this link to my son who composes electronic music in Manchester. he is in a band called circastate. I know he will have to have this!
ROFL interesting but you can tell the touch screen isn't responsive it's having shitty ass problems like not registering nearly enough of the touches.
wtf are you talking about man. Take 2 or 3 gram of mushroom and you'll be on that shit for more then 4h in a raw. Belive me this thing is AWESOME !!! i want that
Being nice just doesn't mean being usable. While this is good for interface design ideas and explorations, creating anything than random/generative stuff would be exceptionally hard to accomplish.
Big hype factor, low real-world value. Unfortunately... Please work on the underlying methodology how we create music, becuase now this is only a huge attractive dining table and nothing more.
Keep in mind, this is a demo video and thus shows the possibilities and features in a quick fashion only. As a prototype, of course it has room for improvement.
It's really about the audience and intention. This isn't intended to be an instrument and therefore isn't practical as one. But, it can be used for music education, collaboration, and music exploration etc in a real non-hype, non-dinning table fashion as people that have used it have mentioned/ :)
I realize that that comment was left a long time ago, I just found these videos.
ADSRmultimedia I think you're being a little harsh on it. Look at tools such as the Jazzmutant Lemur, and the Reactable. While they aren't per say instruments, they /can/ be used as such, which I feel applies to this as well. Even if one weren't to use it /as/ and instrument, it could still carry out the functions that the Lemur does: midi controlling and audio shaping.
And furthermore, regardless of what the "tool" is and isn't capable, it has a niche. I for one would LOVE to have this in my live setup, alongside my monome, my lemur, my stribe and my machine-collective modules. Such things can be taken advantage of in countless ways. I could see this being used during one of our instrumental songs or as a midi-controller like the lemur is. You can't be so quick to come to conclusions about the "tool", this is only a prototype, and it will find its niche.
I feel like I just came back from time travel hundred of years ago. This is, I guess, what my favorite and most admired composers like John Cage must have dreamed of.

This is the Microsoft Windows version of the reactable, in other words it sucks big time. Good for other applications though, not music.
