  • Oh yeah

  • omg i love this song and my school my whole class are learning it ! des bishop is brilliant he went to the gealtact to learn irish then he sings a song in fluent irish and its actually brilliant !!! he rocks =) xxx

  • I wish Des would do more vids like this -its a ggreat way to keep the language alive

  • Heh, I used to be crapish at Irish until I started translating games and shit into Irish for fun. it paid off, after 2 years I'm fluent ^^

It's taught shit in school, just treat it like a modern language with modern words "uamhnach" = "awesome", "r-post" = "email". I think it's epic ^^

  • hahaha, "gaeilge abú" swiftly followed by "very good"

  • im going to try to learn Gaelic... good thing i pick up languages fast so it might not be as completely hard as i expect.... and i use music to help me lear to!~

  • this would be a whoe lot better if jump in irish didnt sound like LAME :)

  • Carson nach eil tuilleadh bhidioan eile mar seo?

  • Muy Bien !

  • top of the morning ( uachtar na maidne) is a mis-translation of a very old Irish saying, uachtar an bhainne, meaning "the cream of the milk" english just ins't a desciptive enough langauge to be able to translate Irish accuratly, Irish and many other langauges are just more desriptive and more advanced then the english and especially american languages.

  • @pitbull74868 Than why is it almost dead.

  • Irish is no were near dea u should go to a gealtacht area were they only speek as gaeilge. iv met children who cant speek a word of english. and their is also a TV channel in Irish, called TG4 and its still running so der must be some people watching it. it isnt dead just cause u dont hear people speek it. just cause you cant see the wind doesnt mean its not there.

  • @prooc you see when the english were taking over ireland they made the irish speak english! thats why there are few irish speaking communitys.but it is still being taught in schools so at least its still there.

  • @prooc

    its not

  • @pitbull74868 What do you mean by American Languages? Many of the Native American Languages (unfortunately so many have already died out) are far more discriptive than the general standard of English spoken within USA borders today. Mostly because the US took the British example and banned languages they saw as a threat to controlling a population that they saw as problematic

  • actual thought this was gonna be shit, but it's actually quite good. good job. although i'm now pissed off i can't speak Irish & i am bloody irish. >:(

  • @8915barry its not that good...im tormented by it

  • is cuma liom is cuma liom léimigí thart!!!

  • You can't call yourself Irish unless you were born in Ireland. Americans who claim they are Irish are of Irish descent. I think they shoulsd just call themselves American already..

  • Oglaigh na H Heireann dont fuck around with the irish pride.

    Greetz from holland

  • fuckin A,des bishop he a fekin leg

  • Love this!!

  • they were born in america so they are american but they have an irish background and were brought up in irish suburbs

  • Tá sé go maith.

  • Well ethnicity and nationality aren't the same thing now are they. But perhaps it would be best to say Is d'Éiirinn mé, "I am of Ireland". Moroccans, Spanish....Bob you confuse terms. It would be accurate to say Basque not the rest. Icelanders/Norwegians....you mean Norse Vikings. Welsh, Highland Scots, same origins as Irish. Yes, Ango-Norman colonialisation played its part in modern contributions but you have to say the same for England.

  • This isn't mixed properly. Nice to see Bishop putting the effort in though.

  • ardderchog!!! are thare many gaelic language bands? do they get in the charts? any gaelic hip hop? cheers from wales

  • Tá an amhrán seo go hiontach. Tá Des Bishop an greanmhar

  • nil me ag eiri a eisteacht le do chac bo ..:L

  • Iontach go deo,, thar cionn..

  • What is all off this political crap you people are writing!!! Music has no discrimination!!! If it's a great song,it's a great song. This song is great in any language!!! and I'd love to hear in other language's[as long as the music track is the same].

  • des bishop puts me and lots of irish people to shame, that after 13 years of learning Irish, we prob cant understand only a few words of what he's singing. But i want to learn it! how come i know more fucking german than irish after 5 years! The way it is being taught needs to be reformed! i hated irish in school but after heariing this from a "Yank" i feel sad and embarrased.Bishop your the man!!!!!

  • Sick ass shit!!! Fuk ya jump. jump!!

  • Great vid

  • awesome work on the video! props to des for the song of course! i love finding american pop culture stuff in irish.

    slán

  • actually House of Pain were Irish-American too

  • I tend to think more American than Irish though! A lot of their Irish identity seemed to be about "top of the morning" and "leprechauns"!

  • haha true!

  • When Americans say they're Irish, they mean Irish decent. They don't mean they were born in Ireland.

  • Then they're not really Irish. Like most people in this world, I'm a mishmash of various things. The Irish are descended from English, Scots, Welsh, Norwegians, Icelanders, Moroccans, Spanish etc alongside the more obvious Celtic elements.

  • So is a mexican who's a hundred percent mexican and who's second generation immigrant living in Texas not Mexican?

  • By referring to him as "a Mexican", you've already pigeonholed him/her. It's a question of what they consider themselves, and how culturally Mexican they are. Some of the "Irish" American types aren't very "Irish" at all, and don't have much of a clue about Ireland.

  • How did you figure that one out? The majority of Irish people are descended from the original inhabitants of the island. Recent developments in DNA haplogroup testing prove this.

  • The majority of Irish people also have Norman, Norse, English, Scottish and even Welsh ancestry. Check out their surnames. Plus if you went back 1000 years, you will have thousands of ancestors living at the same time. Four grandparents, eight great-grandparents etc...

  • The majority do not. Most people's surnames in Ireland are anglisized versions of their original Gaelic name. Some who have Norman/English names are not Norman/English in origin, e.g. Smiths (in Cavan) which are MacGabhann's, Johnsons in parts of Ulster were McShane's (a branch of the O'Neills) etc etc. As has been proved by science, the majority of Irish people are descended from the original inhabitants. The various invasions into Ireland have had a relatively small impact on the gene pool.

  • You are missing his point. The further you go back, the most ancestors you have. Two hundred years ago, you'd have maybe twenty/thirty g-g-g etc parents alive. A thousand years ago, even more. To say that these people did not intermarry with the Normans, Vikings and English is nonsense. There are no pure Norse or Normans in Ireland. Plenty of people with that ancestry though, especially along the coast.

  • I'm not missing his point. His point is that the MAJORITY of Irish people have Norse/Norman/English etc heritage. This is patently untrue. While these invaders into Ireland eventually intermarried and bred with the natives, they do not represent the majority of people in Ireland. They represent a minority.

  • @dotsie1978 you are arguing over something that is absolute bullshit which you cant prove...get over yourself...

  • @baguhmeister Thanks for your inciteful contribution. You clearly are the fountain of all wisdom and knowledge and I bow to your superior intellect. How does one get over themself?

    Moron.

  • Nil amadain iad mo chara.

Nobody showing any interest in the langauge is an idiot. The language has been oppressed and many wish to reverse that. Those of us who try to do our bit through pages like this, blogs, daily using the language, developing irish language primary and secondary scholls etc. none of us would call anybody showing an interest in the language an idiot.

  • awsum dvd!

  • Ni aontaim le Nteaanabickie in aon chor! Is leir go bhfuil daoine oga na hEireann an broduil as ar dteanga agus ta siad go leor ag togail faoi dearadh an tabhactach ag baint lei! Ta an Ghaeilge ag dul chun cinn sa tir seo gan amhras ar bith agus ta beagnach 30000 mile deagoiri ag dul go dti an Ghaeltacht gach bliain! Ta se soileir nar sin go dtiugtear gurb teanga fior alainn i!

  • téinn muid chuig an gaeltacht don craic. IS cuma linn faoin gaelige.

  • Teann tú chuig an ngaeltacht don chraic, ní feidir leat labhairt ar son chuile deagoir in Eirinn. Chaith mé dhá seal sa ghaeltacht (bhí mé i gColaiste Camus agus i gColaiste Lurgan) aus thuig mé an fíor grá a bhí ag na daltai ann. Shil tú iomha stereotipicuil a chruthu ach is leir nac bhfuil tuiscuint da laghad agat faoi muintir oga na tíre seo... Ní chreidim go bhfuil tu líofa i nGaeilge freisin (ta se sin soileir de reir do chomment freisin)

  • Nach gcreideann tú? Is trua sin. Ach, nuair a bhí mé 12, fuair mé céad fan gcéad i mo GCSE gaelige, agus rinne mé an ard leibheil i mbliana. (tá mé 15 anois.) Bhí orm déanamh reidh don teist gan rang ar bith, mar níor chuidigh mo scoil liom. Tá a fhios agam nach ionann sin agus go bhfuil mé líofa, ach níl a fhios agam cad é eile le rá. Ní bhíon móran seans agam mo chuid Ghaeilge a cleachtaigh anois, agus mé críochnaithe leis an gaelscoil, mar sin déanaim cuid meancogaí.

  • Caithfidh go nedeachaidh túsa chug ceann iontach difrúíl ó Rann na Feirste, nó Machaire Rabhartaigh. Nó, b'fhéidir go ndeachaidh tú nuair a bhí tú níos sine.

Ach, nuair a bhí mise ann cúpla blian ó shin, bhí an meid is mó de na scolairí ann don chraic. Tá a fhios agam a lán daoine nach raibh fiú ag leanstan ar aighaidh leis an Ghaelige nuair a thosaigh siad ar ais ar scoil.

Tuigim go han mhaith nach bhfuil suim da laghad ad tromlach na daoine óga sa ghaeilge.

  • Bheul, tá brón orm nár chreid mé go raibh tú liofa i nGaeilge... Is minic a bhionn a lán daoine ag maiomh go bhfuil siad liofa nuair nach bfuil siad ach ag deanamh gaisce. Ach má tá tú liofa, tá se sin go hiontach. (:

Tá a fhios agam go bhfuil cupla gaeltacht agus níl na daltaí ann comh daríre faoin teanga (eg Colaiste Chonnacht)

Ach bhi an Ghaeilge comh tabhachtach do na daltai i gColaiste Camus.. Ní feidir liom e a mhinú, bhí se dochreidte ach bhí grá acu don teanga. (:

  • cén bhlian ina raibh tú nuar a chuaigh tú? silm go mbíonn níos mó suim ag daoine níos sine, a roinnigh an Ghaeilge mar abhair scoile, fiu nuiar nach raibh orthu é a dheanamh.

ach bionn a lán daoine nach maith leo an teanga mar gheall ar na ranganna ar scoil.

  • is maith sin!

  • anam***

  • tir gan teanga, tir gan agam

  • Is cuma leis an cuid is mó do dhaoine óga faoin nGaeilge. I mo thuarimse, ba cheart dúinn a bheith bródúil as ár dteanga agus as ár dtír. Ní cheart go mbeadh gá ann é sin a rá, i ndáiríre. Is mór an náire é nach bhfuil daoine ag déanamh iarracht an Gaeilge a fhoghlaim. Is léir nach bhfuil Gaeilge liofa ag gach duine anseo, ach táimid ag deanamh iarracht. Sin maith go leo, dar liom. =)

  • Ta cupla rud ansin micheart...deir se 'all' na doaine leim...is bearla e...!!!!!

  • Níl sé ag rá 'all', ach 'chuile'. Ciallaíonn sé sin an rud céanna ná 'gach' ('all' as béarla!)

Dar liom, is laoch é Des, tá sé go hiontach!

  • Tá geailge ro-deacár! Is ná gcuras oideachas an amadach é!

  • Gnáthleibheail! Tá sé an maith!

    Is ro-deachar Ardleibheal é!
