It eliminates the need to do all the driver patching, kernel & plist editing in order to install Mac OS on it as if it were a 100% Apple Built mac. Straight from the Retail OS DVD. If you want to use this EFI-X to install Lion, you're going to have to wait a month or so. They have to run test on Lion with compatible hardware to asure you of no bugs. I've used this on SnowLeo all the way from 10.6 to 10.6.7 no problems. I'm waiting for EFI-X's firmware upgrade for Lion Install. Use EFIX 1.1 & up
@thrd4me It tricks snow leopard into believing it's installing on genuine apple hardware, when it's your own picked from the compatible hardware list for efi-x. Works like a charm for snow leopard. OS X Lion is in the works. The update will it'll be out soon.
It makes Mac OS Snow Leopard believe it's installing on genuine apple hardware. Works like a charm. And you can update without any problems up to 10.6.7. As far as Mac OS Lion goes, there has been a long wait for an update on i7 systems which I wound up upgrading to. No GTX 570 graphics cards support. Yet. So i'm being forced to use the Non-Efi-x pain in the ass way of doing things. Good luck.
@PS2Gameplays Believe it or not, I've tried 10 to 20 different hackintosh methods in the last 4 to 5 years and lost so much data when updated MacOS it drove me crazy. Countless hrs days & nights keeping me from the real reason for having a Mac & that's productivity. Since EFI-X came along I've been able to work with confidence & get things done. I'm sure these other hackintosh methods have improved but I'm actually relieved of the insanity patching brings. I still Thank you for recommendation.
@NYCMP1 Boo, still I think it's unfair to charge for something people did for free. Mind you that EFI-X uses the Boot132 method which is open-source. A bit trickier without the device but still...
@PS2Gameplays Sure it's unfair to charge for something people did (still do) for free, but keep in mind that "boothacks" out there are "still" free but there's work involved & a lot of trial & error in getting the settings right and compatible with your particular system. Then there's kernel this & kernel that (Wifi, sound, Ethernet etc). They at Art Studios did all the work for you & figured out a simple way with a simple list of compatible hardware that's been tested to work. It's that easy.
@ermano No, but to be 100% sure you'll get wifi natively, I recommend a broadcom/Apple Express Card for the PCIe slot on the motherboard. I searched and searched for this configuration. Although there are other PCI wifi cards that supposedly work on Mac but not with airport natively only with a 3rdParty WiFi App. And make sure your PC has the compatible parts for this kind of build. You should find enough info about building one at EFI-X (Art Studios/google it) and with Q&A here. Good Luck.
@kevonmalon Sorry for late reply. Don't know how I overlooked your question. Must have been very busy at the time. Google EFI-X/Art Studios and check their Hardware compatibilities list. You should be able to find hardware that'll fit your needs. My hardware is all in the video. I didn't jot down every site for all the parts for the description above. Again sorry for late reply. I normally reply quickly.
i have a problem with my graphic,i bought ASUS ATI 4670 and it doesnt work with snow leopard.now i want to try with XFX GeForce 9800GT. Do you think is it going to work now with SL?
yo my dude that was beast tho, that case was flavaz, but yo dawgz is that EFI-X reliable tho with no problems updating and stuff?......... word cause im gonna jump on that EFI-X for snow leopard
The chip stays in the PC. Just want to add that if you're going to buy the Efi-X chip, make sure you get the V1.1 or above, not the V1. Snow Leopard cannot be installed with a V1 EFI-X chip in place. The regular Leopard can but not "Snow"(10.6). V1.1 "Does" install Snow Leopard as well as the regular leopard (10.5+) - Good Luck!
@NYCMP1 So your not shitting this really does work?! I want to get a Mac but then I saw this and I heard some people say it did not work and I didn't know what to think. I want to get another computer this year and install EFI-X if this really works!
@NYCMP1 LOL Ok Ok Thanks for posting this video by the way if it weren't for smart people like you posting this valuable tech info people like me would be screwed! Take care!
Just passing on what I have learned from others who also posted what they've learned. It's a nice revolving door of learning and sharing. You take care as well.
You have to use an install DVD. A retail version works just fine. I wouldn't use a patched one or one thats been altered to install on a PC. Efi-X arms the PC itself so that you can install Mac OS X from a retail DVD. No patching is needed.
Awesome video man. Exactly what i was looking for. Wanted to see a clean install of the EFI-X, looks like it worked perfectly. Any idea if it works with Snow Leopard?
Thanks. As of right now, EFI-X (v1) does not support Snow Leopard & will not. So I traded up for the next model EFI-X "v1.1" Which "will" support 10.6 Snow Leopard. Only thing is they're late on the firmware upgrade for EFI-X v1.1. Ran out and bought Snow Leopard at Apple. Now I only have the Snow Leopard on the cover staring me in the face, waiting to be let loose on this machine. Its only a matter of time. Getting a little impatient. Thinking about craiglisting it. Hope I don't have to.
Yup XP. The card came with Far Cry 2 which is not a bad game. I played a few good games like Unreal III, 2004, Tron, the Need4Speed series, the 1st. Far Cry and a few more. But this was on other built pc's a couple of years agp. But now I use the PS3 for most of my gaming. The card was chosen for graphics, video editing, HD content & yeah a little gaming from time to time. I still have to finish Far Cry 2. At times I feel like playing those old games with all settings on highest just for kicks.
You really think so? I don't know, I've always used dime sized amounts everytime. No problems so far. Although cpu's have gotten smaller with time. Maybe I'll cut back next time. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
Thanx. Yea I was tired of the black cases too. I thought i'd go with something different. The front door is a solid aluminum that's about an 1/8inch thick. It feels like it can take a bullet. Solid and stylish. I think this case will outlast the hardware on the inside. Thank You for your comment. Glad you liked it.
Thanks. I tried installing snow leopard but unfortunately it just hung there at the spinning busy indicator then just stopped with an "X" over the DVD icon. Of course it was a beta (developer test) version. So i'm hoping the final retail release this September will work. But I still would have to wait for the people at Efix to release their own update so Snow Leopard can be installed correctly. I'm sure they'll get to it when the time is right. They've been reliable as far as I have had Efix.
Have you tried Snow Leopard beta on your setup? I want to see if Apple somehow circumvents the EFI-X with the release of 10.6 before getting a custom rig for myself.
@PS2Gameplays Its a pain when you have to do over and over again just because the sound, or internet (ethernet) won't work after an update. Good luck
NYCMP1 4 months ago
@NYCMP1 Unless you use the retail. Everything works properly. It's only the distros that don't work properly after update like iPC / iDeneb etc.
