and...............that's why I bought my own tank from the beginning........cashier at home depot didn't even know they sold empty tanks, because so many of these suckers use the exchange program. $23 to exchange or about 17 to fill up myslef AND get more propane.
THIS VIDEO TELLS THE TRUTH, AND REALLY STATES THE FACTS CLEARLY, ABOUT HOW THE PUBLIC IS BEING RIPPED OFF BY THE TANK EXCHANGES, BUT ARE NOT AWARE OF WHAT IS HAPPENING. @AdinoEznite Yes, but if you filled it all the way to the 20# when cold as it warmed up the liquid would expand and over-pressurize the tank causing the relief valve to vent.
All propane cylinders are only filled to 80 percent capacity by weight so that there is a vapor space for the liquid to expand into as the temp goes up.
@danielthechskid , thank you. Not sure I'd do this myself, if only 1 thing goes wrong, I'm dead. So I pay a little more, get the benefit of safety. Tx again!!
The best prices I've ever gotten was straight from Strickland Propane. Nice guy over there with a pair of a glasses...called me a Jackass though when I started talking about butane gas.
You people are really stupid untill you actualy work at a gas fill plant you will know why they do this. The people that posted this video are stupid I wish they would see this comment, the reason they do this is because of safety reasons dumbasses you know how dangerous it is to fill propane? That guy filling them to the actual lbs is going to one day kill him self and people around him.
I work at Airgas inc. and I know what i'm talking about.
@ProXCrewChannel If you really want to do it right, you have to figure the actual fill weight based on the TW (tare weight of the tank) and WC (water capacity). The tank can safely hold 42% of the water capacity in propane. The weights are stamped on every tank. For example on a 20# tank- TW-18, WC-47.1. So you take 47.1 x .42=19.782 lbs propane is what the tank can hold. Add that to your tank weight (TW) +18=37.782lbs actual fill weight of the tank not including the hose and fill nozzle.
not just LP everything's getting smaller, my 1 Lb Beef jerkey, went down to 14 OZ, My Breyers ice cream shrunk from first 1/2 gal or 1.89 qt to 1.75 qt and now 1.5 qt
If this continues pretty soon we'll be buying just an empty wrapper or can
@coldstaind yeah i fill propane too where i work and i see a few outdated tanks and say i can't fill it and then the customer says well i just exchanged it, but i say im not allowed, and they get mad, what can i do? i also get a few tanks with the older style fill nozzle but we updated to the new opd nozzle and i get a few people comming in and saying 'well i filled it here last year why is there a problem now and i say cause we updated by a new tank but the guy insisted i filled it but i say no
@coldstaind They may trade out of date tanks, but all tanks are inspected, (propane tanks for the most part require a visual inspection plus a leak check) and they are good for 5 years,
They also screw you by selling it by the pound. If you bought it by the gallon, you would save a bundle. They go by water weight when the sell it by the pound, so 1 gallon is 8 lbs. 8 x 2 = 16. If you bought 2 gallons at $1.25, you'd only spend $2.50!!! Not $16.00-19.00 if you paid by the pound!

I've heard when you chill a small camping cylinder you can get more gas inside it.
If you were to chill a tank before you refilled it would you be able to get the full 20 pounds in for the same price?

The volume is printed right on the tank. They're not hiding it, so blame yourself for not reading the label.

@Aerosteon ummm....how is a label going to prove what is actually in the tank? duh...
