all of these dance punk bands got it from gang of four, but besides the nasal voice they dont sound much like the faint to me at all

well if you want to do it this way, dance punk is a sub genre of your so called "indie" genre, but more specifically it comes from the early 80's, post punk bands with a danceable disco beat...which in retrospect, what were listening to up above ( and yes i know this band started in the millennium). indie isn't a genre, its a big misconception a bunch of posers used to coin music they don't understand

Post punk revival is a different thing somewhat.
