I find it hard to believe that he walked away from this crash, but the one in 2001 killed him. I would much rather go out in a crash like this, instead of that one.
Me too, i quit watching it after Sr. went on to Heaven. Jr. can't drive like his dad, though, i wish he could. I always liked the stock cars back in the 80's, they just looked more bad ass looking than the ovals they drive now days...ovals meaning the shape of the stock cars are oval. lol
If 40% of our nations youth had half that much heart...We would be OK as a nation. This country has been pussified by entertainment media. Fuck michael jackson and whitney houston! what about the brother or sister or son or daughter that died fighting for our country? Where the fuck is there half time show? just sayin.
i quit watching when they changed the point rules last year i only saw 5 races and that was daytona 500 the shootout, martinsville, california and las vegas i thought.
what i cant believe is this was worse than his fatal crash and he walked away from this one and he died on his fatal crash which was only a wall hit.....in 2011 Jimmie Johnson crashed the wall about the same impact as Sr.'s fatal crash and survived and Dale Survived this one...BUT there's a difference.....on this crash nothing happened to the interior parts and his fatal crash his seatbelt broke. This makes me wonder alot........ but RIP dale
its still amazing how he walked away from a crash like this, but his fatal crash didnt look half as bad. i find myself wishing quite a bit that he would have been caught up in the big one in that '01 Daytona 500, then that last lap wreck wouldnt have happened how it did.
He Died Doin What He Loved RIP3 i miss him he died when i was 6 or 7 i forget but it devasated me even that young to know he died i know this isnt teh crash that did.
this crash looked worse then 01 daytona, but it wasn't, why? Well look at how he hit the wall, it was at an angle, which didn't have as much G-forces as the head-on collision at daytona. Look at the amount of time he had before he hit the wall, probably about 1 second longer then his crash at daytona. This caused him to slow down and not hit the wall at 170 mph, he probably hit it at 140 or 130. All these things contribute to him walking out of the car in this crash, unfortunately not in 2001
NASCAR DID IMPROVE SAFETY GOING INTO THE NEW CENTURY IN FACT THE race where he passed away they had the hanse device but was not mandatory to have he told lil E to use it but did not use it himself never know wut might of been
@Glockadeth Same here... NASCAR just doesn't have that "competitive edge" with Sr. gone. I admit, I'm a Ford fan but Earnhardt was my favorite driver and not because he drove a Chevy, he was an excellent and very distinguished driver, period, no matter what you gave him to drive.
@DoctorWINOMD you should watch your comments on here.dale sr.was the fucking man.if you got in his way he would rub you.but hell he said rubbing is racing.long live dale sr.but lets get it together kevin next year.make sr. proud.29 all the way
Dale Sr is worm-chow...history...gone. Petty is the KING, always was, always will be. Kevin Harvick is currently the best driver in NASCAR, bar none... but will never be the KING. Jr, you aren't even in the running.
"Rubbing is racing"? Paint-swapping...Maybe...Bumping the leaders out of the race is not. That's for 12 year olds at a go-cart track.
My late, great 'uncle', Fireball Roberts, would have slapped Sr upside his head...
I was at that race on the infield between turn 1 and 2 were the crash ended at. got pics of some of the cars involved in the crash including Earnhardt's car. Didn't catch one of himself because of ambulance in the way.
Ernie was driving the # 28 car and he hit into the #4 car and that car hit Dale. Did ernie do this on purpose or was he just reckless as he always was? you decide for yorself. it does'nt matter now but Dale should have retired after this crash. Swirvin Ernie Irvan finaly got smart and quit, why did'nt Dale?
I think people would be more understanding about his death if it happened here instead of 2001. His crash is just one of those crashes where we expected him to get out and chew out Marlin for wrecking him. But of course, things went awry.
@dolphinmagic24fan His seatbelt broke on impact due to it being rotted and old. Nobody seems to remember this but if his seatbelt works on his 2001 crash,he may have survived that wreck!
@marshalljimduncan Watch it and see how bad the wreck was Dale should have retired..Ervin caused the wreck...Swirvin Irvan was smart enough to leave racing!
@MartenFe After doing some more research, his seatbelt did hold up on his fatal crash at Daytona. there was a piece in USA today that said his seatbelt was old and rotted. im like you i dont believe this is what happened. If you look up his autopsy it states that his seatbelt held.Im not gonna say anything bad here....It was pretty bad what I read about his injuries in the daytona crash in 2001.
@MrJsmyers I browsed through an autopsy account after reading your comment (it was a PDF file which I've no reason to believe isn't authentic). I didn't notice anything about a seatbelt (which wouldn't be cited in an autopsy anyway... Accident report, maybe?), but yes, I do not believe he would use a rotten seatbelt. Even if Earnhardt didn't care, Nascar would have (and, again, those cars are completely replaced every few races or so; I think only the lesser drivers use leftovers).
@dolphinmagic24fan I feel the same way about his death, as well as the death of Blaise Alexander later that year, and John Nemecheck. They just didn't look that bad. But often the crashes that look the worst.....aren't.
This crash at Talladega seemed worse than the crash in which he lost his life at Daytona. It is really unfortionate that Auto racing series did not use these crashes in the mid 90's to improve safety heading into the new century, or we could have a few more drivers still alive.
Dale cracked his skull on the wheel, broke several ribs, and his seat belt failed and broke! All the others his seat belt did not break! If the seat belt worked he would be alive, maybe in the hospital for a week after the crash but, alive.
earnhardt broke his sternum in this crash i believe. because i remember being at the brickyard later that year and him needing help getting in and out of the car because of his body brace or some shit
@xJohnx228x Earnhardt hit the wall at a head on angle in Daytona and the seatbelt was loose so his head hit the steering wheel. In the crash he did not. He only broke a few ribs.
@xJohnx228x So when Earnhardt struck the wall in 2001, what was it that exactly killed him? I mean did his head fly forward and hit the weel or did his chest hit the wheel?
@TheHoodedCreature I believe it was a bunch of factors. Dale didn't wear the HANS device. When his car shot left then back to the right, he hit the wall head on at 150 plus miles an hour, a split second later Kenny Schrader hit the right side of his car so his head went forward and to his right at the same time. Needless to say that was it.
Dale Earnhardt: The best there (is) was and ever will be.
Glad Dale was okay... But he was sliding more sideways than he was at Daytona which was probably part of the reason he walked away from this one... Still a horrible crash but certain elements helped him that day... Daytona... Sadly he that was the last we'd ever see of The Indimidator =(
@tboneboy2010 Dale didnt "break his skull" as you put it.
He had a basal skull fracture, which basically separated the head from the spine.
And the car didnt do its job to protect the driver, because the roof had been caved in on him, which led to the "Earnhardt Bar" in the center of the windsheild section of the roll cage.
@crb2011 thats crazy bro... i mean ur a hundred percent right but like just to realize that when its ur time its ur time u know...god works in misterious ways

@xmn86 I personally think that the Earnhardt Jr. crash in the 2010 Nationwide race was more similar to Dale's crash at the 1997 Daytona 500.
