Is the dilruba you are playing the "special" model sold by Raj musicals? i am looking to get a good basic dilruba and I keep seeing this model? I guess it is good?
Thank you.I wonder if you are particular about the guage you use..the instrument which i got was- i guess stringed randomly and it didn't produce the notes in the required tuning in order.. thus i experimented a bit..but the strings broke..so i replaced the strings in an order which i found appropriate.. it worked.. but still, the tone is not what i wish for it to be... it sounds more like a violin..
Can you suggest exactly which strings could be used..i'm a beginner..for this instrument..Thanks!
Are you playing this instrument Dilruba or Israaj.
Asking out of curiosity, a few exchange of idea on this matter, I wish to do. Though not a musician or music knowledge but did played very well long back stringed bow instrument called "Ravanhatta" found in Rajasthan. Now when I tried one I failed, the fault is in its construction. This one is more for a showpiece. So decided to go for "Israaj"
I play dilruba. The thing is i am not sure about how to hold the bow...so i play it in a rather funny way(sitar style) and i am looking for a guru..(unfortunately there's nobody in the vicinity) Wow, you played ravanhatta!! do u still have it? I think even my dilruba needs to be checked by some expert,to see if it is n ot a faulty instrument. Please suggest if you know any.(though I'm happy about playing it any ways.)
guitar strings work fine. as far as i know most dilruba and esraj use bronze and steel strings. I replaced a bronze string on mine with a steel one and it's fine....as you mainly only play on one string anyway.
That was very nice!!! I've always wanted to learn stringed instrument esp sitar. Where did you learn to play like that? Do you know raag gunkali? I would love to hear that on Dilruba :)
In this video, I am playing on the female scale, viz., from the second fret from the top. Your komal ga is a komal dha in this case, and as per the ma... Did you mean tivr madhyam- that's actually the shudh ni here...
Rag Bhairo , is the 24th raag. It is meant to be sung/played in the morning (at sunrise) when the mind is at ease and is longing for soothing peace and tranquility. Note that there are not much high pitched notes, instead soothing bass tones.
Bhairo is indeed contemplative in nature. It is often associated with feelings of devotion, faith, and love for the Creator. However, Raag Bhairo has quite a solemn tone.
Not creepy, but haunted i think. sad, maybe, and contemplative. it left me with a sense of longing for something... but i have no idea what. I know it has a real meaning, but im not sure what it is. Anyway, that's my interpretation.

Feelings of longing are typically associated with Raag Majh, one of my personal favorites.
My next video will be of Raag Majh of the Sikh tradition. I believe it is somewhat similar to Raag Manjh-Khammaj and Raag Piloo.
