  • So...between 4:55 and 5:00 you are spelling or what? :))

  • R in 2:30 is kinda hot :)

  • Tusen tack!

  • The most common swedish wordplays in swedish culture are. Men are disposable. Men should have no rights to opinion. give me half of your income after I divorce you and of course the famous, you will never get to see your children again.

  • HAHA!!! You used Edward's picture for the word ugly! I like you already. XD

  • This was an excelent video, I can't wait to see more!

  • OOOOOO MMMMMMMMMMMM GGGGGGGGGGGGGGG! 5:17 to 5:26 What kind of sound is this?????? Impossible!!!! How do Swedes do this sound? You could make a video about how to pronounce this sound!!! OMG O_O

  • @Pedrofrombrazil Try to imitate the wind! schhhhhhhhh....that the sound of the wind! schhhhhhharmig!

  • @Swim0n What!? I must imitate the wind /// or I must do schhhhhhh sound together with the imitation of the wind?

  • @Pedrofrombrazil No no! First, try to sound like the wind, that's how you make the "sch" sound! Sound like the wind and say "armig" afterwards. Schhhhh-armig! Get it?

  • I noticed that I used to speak "IKEA" wrongly......

  • haha xD seriöst...pedobear? 2:14

  • sloooowwww down!

  • Thanks for your efforts

  • Buddy Jesus!

  • Other letter combinations, not included in this video, that have a special pronunciation are "rt" and "rs"(okay, it was included but not explained) when followed by a vowel within the same part of a word. "rs" takes a pronunciation that sounds a lot like a soft k, but isn't exactly the same in standard Swedish, and "rt" sounds like how people from India pronounce their t's.

  • What I said in the previous post has some exceptions though, because we make stick words together into combinations, like they do in German as well. Therefore if k or g is the final letter of a part of a word and the initial letter of the following part is any of those vowels, those rules don't apply. Additionally there are borrowed words that require a hard k or g in front of a soft vowel.

  • In standard Swedish, we make the distinction between the sound of "soft k"/tj and rs/sch, even if this girl doesn't. It's so subtle nobody's gonna notice if you don't understand the difference though.

To clarify what I meant by soft k. The sound of k(as well as g) changes depending on what vowel it is followed by, pretty much in the same manner as c and g in English. The k and g take the soft sound when they're followed by any of these vowels: "eiyäö" but the hard sound when followed by "aouå".

  • Estuvo muy chistoso la foto de jesus como ejemplo de zombi. Buen video.

  • Jag gillar din skjorta :) (is that a correct sentence?)

  • @0Ruaiks0 Yes it is a correct sentence but because she is waering a T-shirt you could either exchange the "skjorta" for "tröja" or "T-shirt". "skjorta" in Swedish means the button down shirts you usually see on guys. ^__^

  • @moonlightochsexand okay :) tack så mycket!

  • You are so cute so i felt in love(

  • Don't be fooled. Swedish is very difficult to pronounceFor example . Some sounds do not occur in English. For example RT in kort, RG in korg,LJ in fotelj;.. SJ in sju.etc.I am American and lived jn Sweden for two years.I learned to speak Swedish quite well. Swedes notice when you don't pronounce correctly. Swedish is difficult.Insist on a good teacher. Dont hang around with other Americans you will never learn.

  • i learn scandinavian and thanks for the alpha-bet so nice accent :)

  • this woman is adorable and her accent is sexy!.

  • Great vid. I'm trying to learn Swedish to get my foot in the door for Germanic languages (also learning Spanish for romance languages). I noticed a lot of the 2nd syllables in the words seemed to be accented. Could someone tell me if this is a trend in Swedish words?

  • I think you did a good job sharing your video! It is good when people are more exposed to videos about Sweden and its language! Cool that Youtube has channels like Sweden's channel and of course Speak Swedish Stupid that provides with information about the language!

Keep up the good job promoting Sweden :)

  • wat the hell...

  • Um.. "Mars" is NOT pronounced with a sch-sound.

"RS" is not a kind of sch-sound in Swedish either.

    Just so you know.

  • Thanks for posting this clear pronunciation guide. Very good presentation. The different sounds of the vowels, esp å, ő, ä, are hard to distinguish at first. Good thing I found this before I practiced my mispronunciations to perfection or people would have thought I was Danish :-)

  • i'm from greece and i find this a piece of cake.go see how greeks are speeking and how difficult our language is!!

  • The "G" can be troublesome. "K" as well.

    you did good

  • @Blasterwastelander In hungarian fika means mucus... yeah, it is less hardcore, but funny btw

  • @Blasterwastelander Well, fika (exactly written and pronounced very similarly like the Swedish word) is the green material you remove from your nose with a tissue (or with your finger under the age of 4).

  • @Blasterwastelander It's figa not fika. Perv

  • @Blasterwastelander si ma ci piace il fika (fica) in svezia ;) sono mezzo Italiano

  • lol ''Zombie'' = Jesus

  • Can you fall in love by 0:06 ?

  • This was actually very helpful. I'm trying to learn swedish using rosetta stone and a few other resources. However, swedish pronunciation is very demanding so far as vowels are concerned. Listening to these sounds isn't enough you actually need to see someone making these sounds to see what the hell they're doing. Make moar videos plz n thanks!

  • Great lesson! Thank you!

  • Hmmz, skåning som jag är, så föreslår jag, att du omedelbart gör det lite svårare för dig själv och lägger upp en video som visar skillnader mellan dialekterna. :) Kom och tänka på det där med ordet "Mars" Där vi här nere (the deep south) uttalar R:et" mycket tyngre och hårdare än så, vilket gör det INTE till ett SHH" ljud. :)

  • jejeje..I kike the final..." El cuerpo del deseo es todo lo que quiero cuando yo me entrego.."

  • Ahhh hard for me :D !!

  • I've subscribed to Swedish evening classes because of this :)

  • Haha I speak Swenglish with my Scandinavian friends, as I live in Australia and there aren't really any opportunities to expand my vocabulary. But next year I'm doing school in Sweden. Can't wait. You've got a strong Swedish accent but it sounds like there's a bit of British influence in it. Did you learn English in school?

  • naken nunna :D hahaha

  • Mikle jakson forever!!

  • Jättebra, tacka! Jag kan inte gör 'r' riktigt, jag fuskar... Men jag lärde mig svenska från morsan och hon är en smålandare... Så hon kan inte gör det heller :P thanks again!

  • Beautiful girls with cute european accents. sighhhhhh :D

  • Hey, nice video, but I need help with something: sometimes you pronounce 'i' with that weird mouth position and sometimes like 'e' in english, also, sometimes you pronounce 'g' at the end like, let's say, in english word 'gum' and sometimes you pronounce it as 'y' in 'yellow'. why is that so? When and how to pronounce that?

    Thank you

  • naken nunna o.0

  • o forget this its to hard im staying with german

  • @Maidenfairy12 German Advance Grammer < Swedish. Plus, Swedish is far nicer to listen to.+

  • "ugly", "zombie"... I love you! hahahahahahaha

  • Did she just sing" El Cuerpo del Deseo", as in, the soap opera? Lol!

  • LOL the Ugly picture!

  • i want more videos! i learned to say jag heter emilio och jag är nitton år gammal! :)

  • It is a good video. For the next one, I advice you to stress on pronunciation, repeating the word a couple of times and giving sometime for the student to practice. I know it will take some more time but you can direct your video, for example, in this way: "After watching the video, I want the student to be confident in both the meaning and pronunciation of about -for example- five words and have an idea of 10". ...Tack!!

  • Haha I love the ugly with Edward

  • lol pedobear and the trollface, good video.

  • Varför inte använda den korrekta symbolen ≠ istället för != från språket C?

Vi är ju faktiskt inte begränsade till tvångströjan ascii längre, nu på 2010-talet.

    MVH!

    Sebas.

  • Kan du förklara regeln för att uttala sk inom "sked" som

sj inom "sju" kontra uttala den som "skola", vilken är en hård k ljud?

    Tack.

  • simply awesome. firefly, pedobear, napoleon, calvin and hobbes, seriously greatness with the references.

  • I've always been interested in the swedish language cause of swedish friends I made through games and listening to them speak to eachother on skype/ventrilo. I don't know if I'll ever make the full step to learning the language fluently, but I know this video seems like a great place to start to get the basics :)

    Thanks for this awesome video.

  • Jag är glad att du inte är längre en svårt man. : )

Thanks for the video. Please do more. I like the style

    with the pictures.

Swedish pronunciation is a bit tricky for us English

speakers, but this was really helpful. I've also heard

'sjunga' pronounced with an F sound for the SJ.

    Why is that?

  • Oops. That should be "en svart man." I always

confuse those two words. Perhaps when you

were a black man, you were difficult as well?
