You have to laugh at some of the idot comments. Why can't people see this is nothing to do with tax or rights to use the road, it's about pig headed drivers who think that they have the right to bully more vulnerable road users.
When I get the chance to talk to drivers about some stupid move they just made I tell them to consider this -- "If you would not do it to a 30 ton truck then don't do it to a cyclist"--. That seems to bring home to them how vulnerable cyclists are.
Just wanted to add - I give cyclists all the room they need on the road, it's just that militant cyclists such as yourself who cause a scene to make a point, instead of just moving to one side, boil everybody's blood. Since they incur none of the costs of supporting a road-legal car most people feel they have no right to complain on matters like this.
Most motorists are of the opinion bikes should pay road tax, especially in cities where their presence is often a source of anxiety. I agree.
Be pedantic if you want - cyclists still don't pay tax to use the roads. Granted, paying tax doesn't give a car the right of way over cyclists but anybody who would confront a ton and a half of steel just to prove whatever vapid point he had is arrogant to say the least - you could just as easily have pulled in yourself and saved everybody a lot of time.
Just read the rest of the comments and look at the likes vs. dislikes this video has...
@PompeyBike The difference between a tax disc and taxation for operating a car is a very small and pedantic distinction to quibble over. The fact is you still need to pay this tax to legally drive your car on any road in the country.
While this distinction made by cyclist culture must give endless motorist-provocating material to the air-headed idealists who inhabit it, in reality, it just makes you look like you're trolling.
Get the Highway Code out of your lap and unclench your arse a little.
You really aren't able to understand this are you?
The fact is that you DO NO PAY ANY FORM OF TAX FOR OPERATING A CAR!
You pay a Vehicle Excise Duty on the pollution your vehicle causes. It is general taxation.
This is operated by class of vehicle according to the pollution of that vehicle.
Bikes are in class A. We pay the full rate of that class. Are you now saying that someone who drives a Polo or Golf should not have any rights either?
@PompeyBike Stop making this distinction. You still need to pay for and display a VED disc, otherwise the police can and will remove your car from the road and have it crushed. It's the law.
That driver may have been wrong but it would have been more logical and courteous to simply move out of his way sooner than you did.
Honestly, a more pedantic person I have never met. There's no sense arguing further with you.
Take this as a victory if you want, but in reality, you're just not worth it.
What would have been logical and courteous was for this muppet to have waited as the Highway Code suggests.... I was already committed when he decided to bully his way through.
But worryingly you still don't understand that class A vehicles (such as for instance a Volkswagen Golf) pay the same zero rate as a bicycle.
I still fail to see how it has any relevance at all to this muppets bad driving though...
Rider appears to be cycling in the centre of the carriageway (as in other videos) when a simple move to the left would enable both parties to continue their journey with no issues. Ergo, attitude FAIL from the rider.
@599hornetrider. Drivers seem to assume they have the right of way when a simple pause of 10 seconds would allow the cyclist to pass and both parties to continue their journey with no issues. Ergo, aptitude FAIL from the driver.
You're a bit of a girl. You decide to make a point by cycling in the middle of the fucking road, and then run away when you realise you'll be swallowing your own teeth if you stay.

@Strike86
Excellent idea - we start a new tax for all road users...... what rate do you suggest and will you be paying the same for cars, lorries and cycles?
Perhaps we could start clamping down on misuse of pavements?
I suspect you incur none of the costs of maintaining a legal bicycle, so therefore by your own standards - do you have a right to comment on cycling?
This driver was in the wrong, and waffling about how much you or I pay in taxation remains ignorant, absurd and irrelevant
PompeyBike 11 months ago
Pay some road tax, then you can argue with a car.

@Strike86
Oh dear ... another ignorant and thick individual
Care to explain how?
It was abolished in the 1930's?
Please don't tell me you have been conned by someone............. no-one can be stupid enough to still be paying "Road Tax", surely?
Unless you meant VED - in which case I pay the full assessed rate for any vehicle in class A
Or didn't you know that either?
Your post displays a stunning ignorance.

You still don't understand do you?
Motorists don't pay tax to "use the road" either............... and haven't since 1930!
Do your really need an explanation of how tax works?

Again what level do you tax these?

A bigot is a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own prejudices.
You seem to think disablement such as Cerebral Palsy is something to use as an insult - fits the description perfectly.
Most people in this day and age know better.

Appalling how few of these people are aware of either the DfT guidleiines or the Institute of Advanced Motoring advice.
Says a lot about driving standards, and probably explains why there are so many poor drivers around?
