@candr At 18 1966, I enlisted in USAF and from 1966 to 1968 I was stationed at Bien Hoa AFB Vietnam, I was assigned to the 3d Security Police Squadron AKA Air Police from 1966 to 1968. At that time the only the only USAF troops issued weapons were AP's which meant all security fell upon us. Bien Hoa was the busiest AFB in Vietnam and often VC and NVA used motors, rockets and few major attacks and I consider myself lucky to have survived since so many Air Police were killed.

Do you have any idea how many individual, successful rocketry programs were completed in the US prior to Von Braun being added? He was in the country for a couple of years doing nothing before he was put to work. The Go229, by the way, never existed, the Me262 was never followed up on, and the V2/A4 was useless for its intended purpose
@OPE08 Again you seem to have confused the facts. The GO229 was not put into production because German's factories and infrastructure were destroyed before it could be accomplished. Much of the design work from the GO229 were used by the US to build and fly these airplanes for testing in the 50s. The ME262 was never followed up on because the war ended, Germany was divided and the Luftwaffe was disbanded. V2 technology was used to make ballistic missiles; the backbone of the cold war.

@noreplyism sorry pal that aircraft was designed by Jack Northrup in 1940. he was THE pioneer in flying wing aircraft. this was a subscale demonstrator to prove the flying qualities of flying wings. in 1941 the U.S. Army Air Force ordered a four engined flying wing bomber called the XB-35 the prototype flew in 1943. late in the test program, the Army decided that they wanted it to be jet powered & it was redesigned with six General Electric jet engines & redesignated YB-49.

Even the Bulge, which we seem to like to think as an American/German conflict, had British, France, Belgian, Canadian, etc.

@candr At 18 1966, I enlisted in USAF and from 1966 to 1968 I was stationed at Bien Hoa AFB Vietnam, I was assigned to the 3d Security Police Squadron AKA Air Police from 1966 to 1968. At that time the only the only USAF troops issued weapons were AP's which meant all security fell upon us. Bien Hoa was the busiest AFB in Vietnam and often VC and NVA used motors, rockets and few major attacks and I consider myself lucky to have survived since so many Air Police were killed.

Without stolen German technology and German scientist the "Great" USA would have been struggling to get any advanced technology after WWII. I wish Americans would stop being so !!@#$% hypocrite and give the Germans the credit they deserve.
Today America needs to get off its rear and get to work and truly build your country. Stop importing and start manufacturing. Stop looking for bail outs!! Stop blaming Obama and go back to work. Bush messed things up WE have to fix it.

A unit was formed to get people like Wernher von Braun out of Germany before the Russians got them. Guess who ran the "American" space agency and put the first American into outer space?? @ffvdiaz - And it was von braun who said that his rocketry program was dependent on Goddards previous work, its all a circle. Do you have any idea how many individual, successful rocketry programs were completed in the US prior to Von Braun being added? He was in the country for a couple of years doing nothing before he was put to work. The US got very little from paperclip that wasn't just additional info on subjects already known, rocketry being a big standout.

@OPE08 Thank you for that very lucid contribution my friend. I agree with you on that point; it was a team effort with input from several great scientist. What disturbs me is the way people (my moronic friend Zhukov in particular) refuse to acknowledge German's contribution to modern aviation. Do you agree that Von Braun was the catalyst that made the US space program the success it is? Get this book: OSS: The Secret History of America's First Central Intelligence Agency. It explains a lot.

@ffvdiaz - yes! Von Braun was instrumental in the success of NASA in the 60's and 70's, every bit as much for his organisation and leadership skills as anything else.
My problem is the "german contribution", Von Braun was simply the right man in the right place, luckily in a position to take advantage of slave labor and a dictatorships funding. I don't personally care for the implication that somehow germans themselves are superior because Von Braun had some successes in the mid-1940's...

@OPE08 No where did I ever talk about German superiority. What I said is that the German contribution to aviation was never given the credit it deserves. Let's not mix ideology with science. Hitler and the Nazis were assholes and the methods and reasons for developing their technology was for pure evil. That said it was still far ahead of anything the allies had at the time; the GO229, the ME262, the V2 Rocket are all great aeronautical accomplishments that are rarely acknowledge.

I disagree, when the history of flight is discussed the German contribution is always included, but I also disagree with your statement that German advancements were "far ahead of anything the allies had at the time". With the exception of submarine technology, where the 3rd Reich was clearly superior.
The Go229, by the way, never existed, the Me262 was never followed up on, and the V2/A4 was useless for its intended purpose

@OPE08 Again you seem to have confused the facts. The GO229 was not put into production because German's factories and infrastructure were destroyed before it could be accomplished. Much of the design work from the GO229 were used by the US to build and fly these airplanes for testing in the 50s. The ME262 was never followed up on because the war ended, Germany was divided and the Luftwaffe was disbanded. V2 technology was used to make ballistic missiles; the backbone of the cold war.
