  • love the video man

  • I'm so excited to learn math :D

  • very interesting video thanks

  • very interesting video thanks

  • brilliant video

  • This video is so helpful, I would watch these to supplement my math tutor's teachings. Unlike most people here my tutor is very good at teaching so I did not have trouble understanding this video.

  • Oh how I wish I would've known about these videos before failing my trig class! This makes so much sense now! Now I have to retake trig while taking pre-calculus! ugh my professor should be fired! Nobody understood her when she taught! She focused the whole semester on graphing trig functions and even with her tutoring me personally, I never understood. Thankfully, the fact that I failed won't show in my transcripts.

  • Thank you!! I was so worried for an upcoming quiz!

  • My teacher should get fired.

  • if there's one flaw in this video.. it's simply the clarity of the text itself, aside from that; the video is flawless. much more confident for my advanced math testing.

  • wow thank you so much for this video! You explained in the most best possible way. I understood everything completely.

  • thank you infinately, im very uncomfortable in maths and your vids on the unit circle were well explained, comprehensive and easy to understand and i now feel much more comfortable on this subject for my upcoming exams. Thank you again!

  • who the hell would dislike this?!

  • thank you so much... you remind me a lot

  • Even Sal's earliest stuff is unbelievably simple and easy to understand. Thanks Sal.

  • Great explanation khanacademy. Thanks a million.

  • Sorry ._. , pressed the dislike by accident, i pressed like after it, great vid d(',')d helps lots :D

  • good but too messy....I got confused a little

  • I love your videos, Sal. They are so helpful. I just want to point out that this video is missing a lot of important info related to graphing these. I hope everyone checks back with their textbooks after doing internet research. Thanks!

  • Once again awsome explination and video all together.

  • poorest video i ever saw

  • I'm regret that I didn't know this earlier :/. If I know then I would have get a very high grade in every math n science test... ><

  • I always had trouble with this and never could undertand it. My teacher eventually gave up and we had to move on. I ended up going to summer school and still didn't get it. I watched your videos and 6 minutes in I got it. After this video I'm mad I couldn't get it beofre. This seems so easy now.

  • This is the best contribution ANY organization has made towards education. God bless you, Sal. :)

  • this is just amazing

  • Why do you use the pie symbol? Our teacher taught us to use 30,60,90 etc, or 90,180,270, or 45,90,135,180 etc depending if it's cos, sin or tan?

  • @Itswalrus thats different, this is just for graphing the functions you are not attempting to find a value.

    -hope that helps

  • my maths teacher made a balls of explaining this but now i see the light!

    thank you!

  • 2 teachers disliked this, because they know soon people will realize that every successful student learns math here.

  • @MZD94 Or they disliked this video because they are afraid that their students will skip their classes and lose their money.

  • A true Indian; a true human being. Salman left his high paying job to help students like us. A true modern inspiration.

  • @slumdoggenius

    he's not Indian... lol

he's american ....and his family come from Bangladesh

  • You are my hero (: thank you so much.

  • Salman makes me proud to be Bengali!

  • i love you

  • Thanks for this. My math teacher is incompetent and this helped me a lot n

  • wow his kids are so lucky to have an incredible math/science teacher for a father!

  • 2 people, INCLUDING ME, are not able to understand this video. It goes way too slowly and does not hold my attention. I can't explain why the other 198 people like this video.

  • @ACfireandiceDC

well then maybe you should skip to the more advanced videos on trig?

  • @ACfireandiceDC It's the video's fault that you can't pay attention? Really? I can't understand how THAT can be.

  • Great video! Very well explained!

  • This is an awesome video. It makes it seem transformations look so easy.

  • You're rich today bro., thks a million

  • Very well explained!! :) thanks (I have a midterm tomorrow)

  • 2 People said sin of 0 = 1

  • ahhhhh i love youu!!!!

  • Now i can do my hw.... Thanks

  • DUDE THANK YOU . But what about the Tan :o ?

  • 2 people clicked the wrong button

  • bro... you're amazing

  • YOU JUST SAVED MY LIFE. Thank you so much and Merry Christmas!

  • Thanks for the help man

  • thanks, think im just going to look at youtube for now on lol

  • @WinnieXenobia wtf is wrong with you

  • i love that formula for finding period!

  • how'd you get 4 pi?

we didnt learn about that equation.

  • @shuthefxup yes this confused me too =[

  • @kghfairy

    Amplitude: 1/2

    Period: 2pi

Horizontal Shift: 4 to the left

    Vertical Shift: 1 up

It's a sine graph, so you start at the origin

There is no reflection, so you initially sketch upwards

    The rest is repititious ;)

  • Where are the videos that include phase shift?

  • very nice

  • very nice

  • Thank you so much i totally understand this now.

  • @10243406 . Really. Haha. He didn't probably get a single thing. Stupid ass

  • and this vid is soo helpful. God bless.

  • i think you've just saved my life :D

  • thanks alot!! i love your presentation. actually you teach better than my teacher!!!

  • better than mind bites.com: thorough, effective, and free.

  • thank you !!(:

  • thanks Sal! :)

  • I can't believe I'm NOT confused!

  • thankk you soo much, were doing this in Honors precalculus right now and this helped a bunch! im soo bad at math but i desire to be better!

  • I am so pissed, I pay 20k a year to go to school for this but you teach it better here, thank you so much you make it seem so much easier than my instructor at school

  • I wish you were my trig professor, you make everything seem so easy!

  • If I could plug the function into Excel I'd be set.

  • Thank you so much! This was extremely helpful!

  • Thank you thank you THANK YOU! Oh my goodness. My teacher absolutely failed at teaching this. I am definitely coming back here to learn more. GAH. You are so awesome.

  • I am so happy right now

  • @10243406, Dude! What the heck! Why would you even say that? That was soo fricken dumb. No insulting! He did a GREAT job on this video.

  • @10243406 i can tell your iq is less than 1

  • your service is too great for words! :)

  • ohh, i didn't knnow the period for tangent was pi/B... my teacher just says that tan = sin/cos so draw the cosine first to find when cos is 0. then draw the asymptotes then draw the tangent :D hope i helped

  • do you have vidos on transforming, reflecting, etc trig graphs?

  • Thank you so so so much!

  • what about....given the graph..you are asked what is the equation?

  • I still don't understand how to look at a function and get the Period. Is there a Kahn vid that explains this better?

  • IF IT IS A SINE, COSINE, COSECANT, OR SECANT FUNCTION, THE PERIOD IS:

    2pi/the absolute value of B

IF THE FUNCTION IS A TANGENT OR A COTANGENT, THE PERIOD IS

    pi/the absolute value of B

This is in which a function is in the form:

    A sin(Bx+C)+D

    A: AMPLITUDE

    B: CIRCULAR FREQUENCY

    C: HORIZONTAL TRANSLATION

    D: VERTICAL TRANSLATION

  • just look at how high it goes from 0 on the x-axis

  • thank you, I'm grateful to you :)

  • god i hate trigonometry!!!!!

  • you are not alone....this is my second time taking it this year....lol

  • MATH IS MY FRIEND NOW @_@

  • awsum teacher!!!! i wish u wud replace my perverted 60 yr old teacher

  • Thank You. By the way do you happen to have any videos about using Trig Functions in Word Problems? other than Triangles. More like about populations?

  • Thanks!

  • finally !!!!!!!!!!! very understandable good job

  • stop posting your crap on good videos

  • how do u remember anything honestly i would just die

  • This man is a good teacher.

  • Out of all the vids, this one helped me.

    Thanks

  • thanx so much!!!!!

  • we all appreciate your affords toward helping up students with your wonderful and profound videos. and raise up quality high education standards. Thank you . please keep it up your affords.

  • Seriously never stop doing these videos, they are easy to follow, easy to understand, i love your voice and everything seems simple the way you explain it. You make maths fun to learn even when we think we'll never be able to do it. Thanks, Khan

  • Doing Trig with you makes it almost fun. Trig was terrible before you came here.

  • Thnk you very Much...Now i can pass trig

  • tx very much, ur the best. keep doing this pls?

  • Thank you so much. That was really helpful.

  • can you do f(x)= sinx

or can some one explain it to me

  • it's no different to what he did. it has an amplitude of 1 and a period of 2pi.

    f(x) = 1sin(1x) where the coefficient of x is equal to 2pi/P

    so, 2pi/P=1 therefor P = 2pi

    it starts at 0 because sin(0) = 0

  • can you do y= 2 cos 2x

  • thx for the videos its help me a lot

    Nils J

  • easier and quicker way to get the period:

    2pi/b

    where:

    f(x)= a sin b (x)

  • it's the same thing.. you haven't added anything new

  • Awesome!

  • can u post a vedio on phase shift please....

  • I cant find any graphs for Tangent, Cotangent, Secant and Cosecant!! everybody else suck including my teacher. I Wish you could do some videos about those... Very helpful thanks anyways

  • wtf is wrong with you? This guy is the BEST. I wish that at least ONE of the math teachers I ever had explained things like him.

  • u suck buy, Sal Khan is Awesome...

  • I remember I use to love math, until I discovered Pre-Calculus. I'm learning this right now, and Graphing is getting Kind of difficult. In fact, Graphing has always been what I've hated more in math. But Your video really makes it very simple to understand. Thanks a lot man!

  • same here

  • This helped me out a lot! I also have a test next week. Thanks!!

  • dude ur fking smart... where'd u get ur education?

  • Amazing!!with 435 videoes u no alot about maths!! how do u do it ?!lol

  • THANK YOU :D:D:D::D

  • you now i get it

  • i have a test on this stuff tomorrow thanks for the help

  • omg, i love you. this was awesome.. i missed a week in trig and i was sooo confused

  • very good! you're waaay more helpful than my trig professor. all she every does is confuse me and makes horrible jokes and expects us to laugh at them! thank you soooo much!!!!! you have helped me sooo much for my quiz tomorrow!

  • wow, it all makes sense now.

  • Thanks

  • thx alot it's such a big help

  • after taking trig and watching this it definitly makes better sense. Fantastic Job!

  • amazing job thank u very much

  • Great explanation! Thanks

  • 5 stars!!!!! thanks man. way better than my A2 teach would teach me. and this is gonna help me on my ACT so much. omg if u were a math teacher u would be the best in the world. way ez to understand! and not boring like most math teachers lol good job

    and keep em coming

  • Thanks-Very resourceful=)
