You can beat Mantis even if he reads your mind, Only thing you must do is don't you use your weapons and knock him out and dodge everything

@arnis666 No, I know. I've done it with the thermal goggles and (I think) the infinite ammo bandana. It was pretty hard at the time, and I used up all my rations, but I did it.

@thesexychocolate12 This is explaned in the later cutscene - his father had a hatred for him, so he withdrew himself from his past and his identity. In the end, he asks snake to put his mask back on so he can be alone as himself...

It's been a long time since I've played this game, so what happens if I won't switch the controller port or destroy the faces? I mean, I always beat him up without changing the controller. He's very easy.

@MakkaraPullaKeijo Meh, he tends to jump out of the way if you attack him without doing either. He OCCASIONALLY won't jump away in time. I had 5 rations, and tried attacking him without doing either trick. Got him down to about 3/4 health, and I'm a beast at MGS, so it's not that easy without either trick. In twin snakes, though, you can do it without the tricks (just crawl on the floor and aim at him in first person... kind of cheap though).

...are you serious? i don't think i was that good, at all... but i vividly recall getting him very near death (1/4 life and under), before using the port 2 trick. iirc, i was lobbing grenades. still didn't kill him, but i came pretty damn close a couple times. at any rate, WAYYYY better than getting him down to 3/4...

@garbanzotheterrible I didn't try grenades... but then, I only had like 4 of them since this was just after vulcan raven. Idk, I have the PS3 version which may have been patched (unlikely, but maybe?)? I mostly just waited for him to be about to chuck something at me, then I'd spray him with the famas... after emptying my cartridge entirely, and picking up the bonus ammo in the corner, I got him down to 3/4 health. Oh, but also, I was playing on the 2nd highest difficulty, that may explain it

the difficulty might have had a lot to do with it. i have no idea what setting it was on, it was about 13 years ago. haha. dammit. i'm old. but it was probably just normal difficulty.

i was still getting my ass kicked... but i almost killed him a couple times. haha. and then i finally just switched controllers...

@garbanzotheterrible Nice haha. Glad someone actually still remembers the original MGS... wait, 13 years ago? That's when it first came out... I never bothered with the PSone, there wasn't much other than crash, spyro, and tomb raider. Though gran turismo, wipeout, MGS, and Xenogears (which I still need to download) were probably the games that did it for most users.

yeah. i worked at a place that bought/sold games/systems, so i could get anything pretty cheap. the games i remember playing most were mgs, silent hill, quake 2, castlevania sotn, thps, mk trilogy, and etc. i'm bad with the chronology of it, though. haha.

i had xenogears... and never got to play it. i lent it to a friend and don't think i ever got it back. that bastard. haha.

Not surprising, Xenogears is supposedly one of the PSone's finest titles, with MGS being considered THE finest title (though some critics instead point to Gran Turismo 2, I'd have to say MGS was probably the best). Xenogears is now $10 to download on PS store (which JUST WENT BACK ONLINE! :) ), so I'll probably get that one.

Four times? No, I think if you do the battle without moving the controller at all, fail and continue, when you call Campbell, he'll immediately say this.

I confess. I noticed the music where I died sounded a lot like where the codec turned off, so I edited them together so they were synced up. It is funny, but I also didn't want to waste the audience's time watching me die.

I've only played Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Near the end, you get a call from Campbell and he tells you to turn the game console off. It's funny, Hideo really likes to screw with our minds, doesn't he?

Hm... I used that too, and I was really worried about the fight with psycho mantis. However, I think I just calibrated a 2nd set of controllers in the emulator-menu. I think it reads controller 1 and 2. Anyway, I chose the 2nd set while fighting mantis, and it worked perfectly for me.

Actually, most of his face is burnt off - an injuru he caused while he couldn't control his mental powers as a kid (and burnt down his home village in the process). The mask is to cover up the ugly scars, but according to Mantis it also helps him filter what thoughts that'll enter his mind - not to be bombarded with every thought in the room.

that's cool IF I can get the bandanna I could keep my ammo up, but I always grab hold of the body armor when you need to ascend the huge staircase and gun down like 30+ guards

i also read you can get laser sight when you get it down to 3 bullets think it's in gamefaqs

You might be thinking of the last three rounds in the magazine, which are tracers. If you expend all but those and put on the bandana, all your rounds will be tracer rounds.
