  • Best way to hear this instead of the poor cd reproduction ; could be louder recording though

  • Yeah, man! That's the way to play this record: with crackles and in mono:

Thanks for taking me back in time!

HIGH TIDE AND GREEN GRASS rulz!

  • yep yep yep, aha!

  • fender strat at its best

  • Best record of all the stones records, especially the end bit just listen to the instrumentals, it should have been an entire record on its own, totally briliant.

  • In 1964 I was in the 9th grade in San Diego, Ca. The Stones came to town. Me and my buddy Victor bought tickets to their concert. $6.00 can you believe it??:?????

The Byrds opened for them. The Stones only did 4 songs. I guess you get what you pay for.

  • Great song, I think it's their best one. Is that a Music Hall record player? Just bought a mmf-2.2. Sounds great, I need this song on vinyl!

  • Great but not as good as the original by Bobby Womack and the Valentinos

  • So much fun to play on the guitar. I tried it out yesterday. A great song to sing

  • epic

  • aah man its brill heard it wen was a kid in fairground ta for vynil

  • One of their most under-rated and underplayed tracks, thanks for a great post.

  • first heard this at fair i n glasgow fair

  • i agree the best rock 'n roll band of all time all of the hip hop- or whatever the hell they call it, is crap and poisoning other people's minds, telling them to be a drug lord or they talk about sex and only sex. Nobody knows about The Rolling Stones anymore and i wish more people knew about them and listen to good music than to listen to the shit people listen to these days.

  • @gamerlehu1238 you are clearly an idiot. how can you say one genre of music is s responsible for turning people into drug dealers. in case you haven't noticed the rolling stones have been writing songs about drugs and sex way before hip-hop even existed. people have been drug lords wayyyyy before hip-hop and the rolling stones and will still be drug lords way after.

  • when i grow up i will be a rolling stone

  • i wanna buy your vinyl

  • OIS HOD SEI END...!

  • This great song, an early Stones classic, was actually written (and originally recorded) by the legendary Bobby Womack. :)

  • the bass guitar from 2:50 onwards is outa this world.

  • The bass guitar from 2:50 onwards is outa this world.

  • Hmm...is that a Thorens? Sexy shit right there. *high five*

  • Never mind..I am dumb, it looks more like a Pro-ject :)

  • It's hard to believe a kick-ass song like this was made in 1964. The Stones wrer ahead of their time.

  • Most of the really great Rock was made in the 60s. The Stones are great but they weren't ahead of their time. The class of talent that was gowing up at this time has to be one of the greatest classes of all time. Check out the names... many giants.

  • @cunnidvd yesh I agree, piper at the gates of dawn blew me away 30 years after it was released. A golden era never to be repeated.

  • @Robertbism

did you know this song was written by Bobby Womack

i was researching him and saw he wrote this for the stones and wanted to hear it. anyways, not trying to take anything away from eaither artist. good stuff

  • @bloodstainss Yes, this song was written by Bobby Womack, yet he didn't write it for the Stones. Womack & his brothers originally recorded it as the Valentinos - under the direction of Sam Cooke. The Stones (quite young at the time) heard it, loved and covered it. Womack was originally pretty upset about it. He was upset that the Rolling Stones covered it and made it a hit, while he & his brothers were for the most part still unknown at the time. Source: Dream Boogie: Legend of Sam Cooke.

  • @Robertbism theyre was alot of good stuff writen in the early 60s maaan

  • Man, you really kept this record in great shape. You must have a hell of a collection.

  • Greatest Stones song? Certainly one of them.

  • Does he say, "..., playing her half-ass games." ? If he did wow, he got away with it.

  • playing her" HIGH CLASS" GAMES. google this song for lyrics if you have any more problems understanding these great oldies.

  • Hey surfside48 Thanks for clearing that up for me. You know I grew up in the sixties and there are other songs where I always had the lyrics wrong. Like, " Can't Hurry Love," I thought she said, "..., it's a game of kiss and trate!" he he Also on the song "And The Wind Cries Mary," I thought Jimi was saying,"...., after all the JETS are in their boxes." On Janis Ian's, Society's Child, I thought she said,"..., one of these days I'm gonna raise up my dress and we can slide." Naughty.

  • Alot of songs like The Kingsmen's "Louie Louie" were kind of mumbled singing to give the effect of x-rated music and thats why they did so well on sales, and, also on the Billboard Charts. I was in the Navy, in the mid '60s to early '70s so I missed Woodstock. But with all the drugs, mud, and VD there, I'm glad I didn't go. I spent A tour in Vietnam and 13 Months in Holy Loch, Scotland, compliments of the US Navy. The rest of the time in stateside bases. Music was our best friend.

  • Hey surfside This is what I found out about "Louie Louie" Because the song was literally recorded in a garage they had to get it right "live" in one take. There was no overdubbing. If someone messed up they'd have to start over and do it again. At the beginning of the second verse you can clearly hear the drummer shout "fuck!" Because he accidently hit his drumsticks as he was playing. But the band carried on and finished the song. The source of this info came from the drummer himself!

  • Don't feel bad, I always thought that too until a few years ago when I read the lyrics, and also realized when it was released they would not have allowed that. And I don't believe for a moment that most people thought he said "high class games" when they first heard these songs!

  • On a record I have (EMI), Mick clearly sings "half-ass games". However, the American (London) version has Mick singing "high-class games". Strange back then. Some things you could get away with; some, you couldn't. As for getting lyrics wrong, "Scuse me while I kiss this guy" is the most famous ("Scuse me while I kiss the sky", actually) was the most misinterpreted for years (Hendrix-Purple Haze).

  • @jamal49 never heard anybody mistake scuse me while i kiss the sky for "scuse me while i kiss this guy"...............that would just not be a cool lyric at all

  • @broc92592 There was a book some years ago with that very title "Scuse me while I kiss this guy" which detailed some of various misinterpretations of song lyrics over the years. Funny book, too. For a long time back in the day, I and others thought that's what Jimi sang and it didn't bother us. As for "not be a cool lyric", why not? Unless you got a prob with it. To each his/her own, I say. If it was the misunderstood lyric, it would be multo-cool. Life is too short.

  • dude THANKS a ton for the uploads!

  • What can I say ?

This was the very first record I bought, back in 1964.

What great taste I had as a 12 year old...lol!

    Still love em.

  • The Stones!! I first heard them down the Smoke in 1964. They are still R&R,s Numero Uno Band.

This is what will be playing at the Crem. when i go through the curtains Give it Rock Mick.

  • What a fantastic song and guitar solo. It's tight and it's incredible the way so few notes are used to create so many patterns!

  • i have this 45,great to hear it on you tube....

  • Very nice song - very easy to play for us who rehearsed then...

  • very nice. thx. I wish it was recorded better though. still , the real deal

  • I've also got that same vinyl single. Got it off my dad when i was a kid in the 70's. Still sounds better than off a CD

  • r0x

  • Whenever I get in my Landcruiser, I crank up this tune and listen to it several times.

I really dig the bass, and the beginning and ending.

  • A good cover. But the Original from The Valentinos is even better.

  • I agree !! I just heard both. THE VALENTINOS' version KICKS !!! Makes THIS version sounds like.... well.. A COVER !

  • No WAY!!!

  • Something spooky bout that hand like in Pythons 'its the mind' sketch or Addams family !

  • the guitar sound on this is fantastic i have it on cd what a sound for shore it gets beter in the middle from 2 52 right upuntill the end it sounds so bluesey

  • Great guitar licks by Brian Jones and Keith Richard - this is their greatest of the early songs.

It is too bad Prince Jones met his untimely death so early in the Stones career. Quite a lot was lost...

  • made me cry, done me wrong, she hurt my eyes open, that's no lie

  • Aw amazing, amazing!!!! My dad's got the exact same piece of vinyl. The very best Stones song EVER. Thanks for uploading :-) This has made my day. Yeah listen to that distinctive guitar sound

  • Whenver I play my "40 Licks" CD I go straight to track 19. No other record has that big bad guitar sound, now over 45 years-old.

  • Didn't like the Stones much, then they released this one!!!!!! WOW great bass guitar solo, was it BJ playing this???????

  • i like brian jones and keith richards going at it on the guitars for about the last minute of this.

  • Me too!

  • When this came out on DECCA they advertised the 45s as FFRR ie "Full Frequency Range Recording". Not on a Dansette it wasn't!

    Great, great track, thanks

  • Great tune! The vocals and chord structure really remind me of "Milk Cow Blues"!

  • When I was a kid we heard this on the radio in late '63 or early '64 and couldn't believe it! We were used to Pat Boone and the like. Wow. Thanks for posting.

  • The guitar solo in the middle is certainly as they say "kick ass!"

  • @rceeatc sure, one of the best ever.. & one of the most simple!

  • if the base was higher in the mix this could almost be, ;thats alright mama'

  • I love the sound on this track... Keith and Brian are really rockin' out on it... yeaaaah, very nice.

  • DINA DINA

  • That's the way I remember it!!!
