  • This is awesome Taylor! Thanks so much for re-recording it for us last week! We loved dancing to this it was amazing- and who couldn't love dancing to a song sung by a fabulous alumni in a senior show!! Thanks again see you soon!

  • You are amazing Taylor.

  • WHERE DO U GET THE SHEET MUSIC FOR THIS SONG!!

  • You hit the high note... HIGH FIVE!

  • You gave me chills. <3

  • This is one my favorite songs of all time, and I think you sang it BEAUTIFULLY.

  • stupidly high= I dont want to learn how to sing it LOL

  • Best I've Seen Yet! Bravo! I am truly astounded!!! You nailed it man!!!

  • This is incredible.

    You have some talent!

  • This song is just too high. I've looked at the music and it is written stupidly high. There are some very good tenors out there like the one in this video, but almost none of them can sing the stupidly scored notes in this song.

A group of my friends formed to sing this song and sung it a tone down, and it sounded great, if not, more effective, especially that the soloist was not straining his voice. 5 stars to this video tho for a great effort.

  • Well that's not true.

Some people have the range to sing it.

Just because you have difficulty with the notes doesn't mean the music is "stupidly high"

Check out Jonathan Shew singing it. It's incredible.

  • No, it is true. You might be able to name very few singers who can sing this, but the majority of tenors will not be able to sing this.

The usual range expected of tenors is C (below middle C) to G (above middle C). This song is written 3 semitones higher than the expected average, which doesn't give many tenors the chance to sing this song because it is written out of their usual range.

And no I can sing it. I'll just sing it at my pitch and it'll sound fine.

  • who says you have to write music that EVERYONE can sing? jason robert brown knows he can his pick of any singer he wants so he'll just take those very few who can sing it well!

  • souljer0 is right!

It isn't meant to be sang at your pitch.

Jason Robert Brown wrote it like it is.

Love it or hate it. I personally love it.

  • Well that's just not true.

If one can only hit a G above middle C they can hardly call themselves tenors.. A baritenor at most.

Just look at any musical like Jesus Christ Superstar or RENT. The leading males in the are all expected to hit at LEAST an A. Even Pontius Pilate has to hit a Bb.

A true tenor should be able to hit a high C.

  • @drwho188 Sorry have to point this out... its incredibly disconcerting when people classify voice part based completely on range. There are many tenors who can't sing this song, youre correct...but i would be willing to bet there are also some baritones that CAN. Voice classification isn't just based on range, but also tessitura (where you can comfortably sing for extended periods), and the passagio (break, upper in mens voices, lower in female voices).

  • Tay,

this is great!!! Im stealing this song now btw. lol. I teared up a little bit. But this is good. and you just caught me watching it and now Im ashamed.

    David~

  • Dude...I was recently in this show and I am a baritone and I sang this song and would barely make it lol

We are taking it to a state theatre competition

If I could sing it like this we would win.

Dude You have that perfect resonance and ping in your masque

And you can actually hit those Jason RObert Brown notes..lol

  • phenomenal vocal performance

and i would say that this is better than ty taylor's performance

you're vocal quality is absolutely amazing

however, the acting of the song leaves something to be desired

nevertheless, 5 stars for the sheer brilliance of your voice

  • This is phenominal.

The only negative is that the choreography towards the end is a bit and takes away from both the performance and the meaning of the song.

  • oh, just love you.

  • amazing

  • his riffing at the begining is beautiful.. but is vabrato needs some control .... this is very good... i love this song.. i sang in at an intesive this past summer ... i'm now trying to get my new high school choir director to let us sing it... i hope he watches this one! ...... HI WALT!

  • What exactly do you have against his vibrato? Do you know how hard it is to straight-tone in your mix? O_o

  • "DAMN KID!!! the lord blessed the hell out of u! "

blessed the hell out of you?

    hmmm

    ill just leave this here

  • Best video of this song I've seen. Almost like Ty Taylor himself. Very good job.

  • Fantastic

  • Fantastic stuff, am doing this show in London in February, and i hope to be as good as that!!!

  • I have fallen in love with this video. There is something so believable about your performance. It is wonderful.

  • OH MY WORD!!!! you have got some pipes there! Seriously, that was amazing!

  • O.O

    [That's a major compliment.]

  • Taylor, very nice.

  • congrats to the whole ensemble, VERY well done. but Taylor, boy you got it, i don't know what it is, but it's that thing that makes people WANT to listen to a performer and not just hear the song

  • WOW!!!!! Great performance!!!!! Your falseto is AMAZING!!!!!

  • This isn't his falsetto

  • trust me, the higher notes at the beginning are most definately falsetto, you notice the second time round at 2:12 when he changes it a bit, he just has a very good powerful falsetto, which gives the impression that its coming from his diaphragm, as the song goes on he is belting them out properly, just not at the beginning.

  • dude...You better be on Broadway soon or I'll come and hunt you down!

lol jk. But seriously..you'll make it there I swear =D

  • Beautiful singer!

  • holy crap . this is one of my favorite songs ever , & i really don't compliment performances of it very much , but this is phenomenal . i'm extremely impressed . perfection , to say the least . keep it up ; you're amazing . :]

  • holy crap....you were in high school when you did this? great scott. you BETTER have gone into music of some sort or i'll hunt you down and coerce you into it....

  • well that was terribly flamboyant at the end... but that doesn't change the fact that it was still a kickass performance. Wonderful

  • SO this is seriously like the 10th time I've watched this, you are so incredible Taylor! I I am in love with your voice! Can we sing a duet sometime please?! xox

  • Amazing.

  • wow.

    that. was. amazing.

    keep singing, boy!

  • OMG! you are incredible!!!!! I have to sing this song for my musical theater class and i dont think i can kill it quite like that. Good Luck! I hope you become famousone day.

  • WOW!! thats pretty much the only thing i can say. Your cange between you falseto and your chest voice is phenominal !!! im sure we will be seeing more of u if u keep presuing music.. Great job

  • fantastic voice. seriously. AMAZING.

  • Hey, who's your vocal teacher and what technique do they use?

  • oh baby.

I'm madly in love with you.

  • This song basically makes my life!

    well done

  • ...wow, you made me want to sing this myself

  • good lord. sooooooooooooo good. seriously dude, good job.

  • DAMN KID!!! the lord blessed the hell out of u!

  • Taylor, you're amazing..wow. i just relived seeing this show. :)

  • You really have a pure voice. I love the riff you do every time you sing "carry me ON". Very nice.

  • Who is this? you are blessed boy!!! AMAZING VOICE!!!

  • Excellent job!! I only wish you had really acted with it. And to the below coments, I think of it as Sondheim being the old Brown. I much prefer Jason Robert Brown over sondheim anyday. I do love me some Sweeny Todd, but its NOTHING compared to Song for a New World!

  • Man oh man, are you sure you would be willing to put the Last 5 Years up against Company?

  • this is incredible. really good job with the song. its a tough one, and you nailed it. do you by any chance know matt philips? he should be a freshmen at boco this year as well.. please let me know if you have any shows coming up soon! would love to come see you live!

  • i love the first G#...it gives me chills.

  • awesome job!! i was singing it with you man!! love this song and love this musical! jason robert brown is the new soundheim!!!

  • saying jrb is the new sondheim is pushing it a bit i think mr sandman...

  • dig it

  • Ummmm...WOW. OMG. That was incredible. That song is SO hard to sing. BRAVO dude. Your voice is amazing.

  • jeez! this was so good!!! XD!!!! oh and the "carry me on" part at 1:12-1:19...chills bro...chills...

  • Amazing voice, don't like the constant shaking of the head though.

  • taylor you are amazing
