@WhiteKnightGaming type "specific training for goalkeeper" by LuisH067. There is a footage that will answer your concern. From keeper to keeper. I'm not being let to type url.
@DanLFC8 Its not totally true. It is about angles, and physics. The reason you would dive forward would be to close an angle down. However, you couldn't dive forward if a ball was chipped over your head, or when a shot is dipping and looping, and you have to dive on a backwards angle to chip it over the bar. forward diving is very important in cutting off angle, for instance on shots, especially to an angle.
@tonydibs007 I have an inury on my right knee from diving to my right but i dont have the same problem on my left. I think its a habit with diving cause im always landing directly on my knee cap. Recently i injured my right knee the worst its ever been and it swelled twice the size of my normal knee cap size and i had alot of bruzing up my leg. Am i diving wrong?
@WhiteKnightGaming It does sound as if you are not diving correctly. You may need to alter the way you dive. Work on your technique until it no longer hurts to dive.
@DanLFC8 However, if a shot is curling then you may sometimes not be able to cut the angle down, and instead miss the ball entirely. Also, when you dive forward, you also decrease the time that you make contact with the ball. It may be that split second, and more area covered that is needed in order to make a save.
@tonydibs007 i was just wondering because i have to do goalkeeping training at college and the coach has been teaching us to dive foward but i was saying the same things to him like you have to me and he said it makes the save more easier diving foward but i struggle to do that since ive been diving backwards for years. I still dive backwards in shots because i feel more comfortable making the save that way than i do diving fowards.
@DanLFC8 Forward diving is important, so continue to train in that way. But also remember that it doesn't matter how you save a shot, as long as you keep it out of the goal.
@DanLFC8 depending on the situation, you are meant to either dive backwards or forward. Backward diving is for tough situations such as lobbed balls and any other over head balls. While forward diving is the main technique. You dive forward to cover as much angle as possible 45 degree step and dive just like you do when facing a penalty. Though like I said, it all depends on the position of the striker and how he shoots the ball.
@yalamsito Its all about limiting the impact. When a keeper lands by his feet or knee, he decrease the force of the dive. It may not look good, but sometimes its needed, especially if the keeper has any injuries.
@ddresidentevil2 That field should be quite soft actually since it's muddy. And when you get more and more experienced as a goalkeeper you start to learn how to land properly and diving just stops hurting after a while.

@DanLFC8 In the above diving, you can see that if i were to dive forward, the ball may go over my head

i dont like it when a goalie sometimes lands on one foot, it could cause damage to the goalie, but thats just my opinion, what do you think?

@DaSquiid You don't have to roll. Instead you can stay on your belly and when the coach says "go", you just get up and dive.
