Actually European Bands were more advanced than American ones at that time. 1) because so many top U.S musicians were in Europe during that period, 2) because they were not hindered by 'sponsors' who wanted the hard swinging sound turned down, 3) we had exceptionally good players like Alix, Django. Stephane and loads of others.
Yes, I remember having read you're from Belgium. Interestingly, when I was preparing the Brun upload I also came across my Fud Candrix and Stan Brenders records, and I considered to post some of them...
For my part, Brun is quite underrated among collectors, as well as other French and Belgian bands. Bouncin' Around is a 1938 (!)recording, but its hard, bluesy 'Harlem' drive clearly equals later (~1939/40) US records by, let's say, Edgar Hayes or Erskine Hawkins. And solo work is outstanding!

Discovered this artist by The Integrale of Django Reinhardt, really impressed. Ridin Along Mascowa is my favorit

As you say, many of those bands are underrated and had quite an advanced sound, pioneering in swing arrangements.
