That car wrecked the Monaco nameplate. It went from the nice, big sedans in the 60's & 70's to this ugly compact car in the 90's! I'd much rather a 1974 Monaco than a 90!
My father had a '90 Monaco, and it is still seriously one of the smoothest-riding cars I've ever ridden in. Shame the on-board electronics weren't all that reliable... they were pretty neat when they worked.
It is hard to believe that this Renault/AMC Product acquired by Chrysler ended up being the basis of the LH plateform which inturn saved Chrysler in the 90's. The AMC acquisition was strategically important in Saving Chrysler! This car was a poor seller but a technically advance vehicle for Chrysler
The Monaco is based on the Eagle Premier.
