  • It wont go anywhere if we can keep it real. These younger kids coming out with stuff that can't compete with this. Positive sounds.

  • soooo sickk

  • "We New York the narcotic, strength in metal and fiber optics"

  • Arguably the best hip-hop song ever.

  • this is wat wrong wit today's rap verses that actually say something

  • one of the best hip hop songs ever made. hands down

  • smoke a blunt and layback on this shit!!

  • escucha la ciudad

  • One of the greatest hip hop songs ever. A true Classic!!!

  • This Shit Is DOPE you keep postin.

  • I remember when this vid was number 1 on Rap City and I taped if off the TV from the VCR. Common part got cut off tho.....I was psst!! Good upload homie!

  • ★ DOPE ★

  • it makes u feel something

  • 3 headed monster, will destroy any fake ass rappers

  • my 6 headed dragon will fuck up your 3 headed monster any time :D

  • Blackstar Movement.......What a Combo, Two of the best Lyracist's in the game right now. This is what hip-hop is all about. I don't even bother listening to new hip-hop because there will never be anyone as good as these guys. Do yourself a favor, go out and buy Black on Both Sides or New Danger buy Mos, it will be the best decision you have made all week.

  • I agree with your opinions about Mos Def, but you didn't aknowledge The Ecstatic which was pretty good. Also, there are good new hip hop albums... Only Built For Cuban Linx 2, Relapse, Detox coming soon, Relapse 2 coming soon, meth raekwon ghost album coming out early 2010, also wutangs newest chamber music cd is good

  • For the Relapse thing, Eminem mostly does joke songs though. He needs to come out with more serious songs.

  • he needs to come out with real raps again.

  • For real, lol.

  • You must be kidding, Lupe is Kanye Hard, Relapse was a complete joke, and god knows what shit a 44 year old over the hill rapper like dre is gonna pull out of his ass... Hip hop is dead my friend.

  • @Byro8 rap is dead, hip hop isn't. there's a distinction that needs to be made between the two.

  • Exactly Dan !!

Hip Hop will never die, there's forever gonna' be artists holdin' it down for REAL Hip Hop.

  • I respect ur opinion Byro8, but Lupe is without a doubt real hip-hop my friend. He has the courage to speak his mind about the issues surrounding us today and has yet to conform to the norm of mainstream (c)rap. American Terrorist, Real, Gold Watch, and Put You on Game are all visonary classics that define what true hip-hop is, in my opinion. Lupe is perhaps the only one keeping it true today, and it's a shame that ppl fail to recognize that.

  • He is but when he dissed A Tribe Called Quest I said F Lupe. He's not even close to Mos Def or Talib or Q Tip for that matter.

  • Listen to Lupe Fiasco that will be the best decision you've made all week.

  • Mos Def, Talib Kweli & Common- The Dangerous

    Combination !!!

  • Dam.... i cant even comprehend how lyricaly sick mos is...... especially on "Hip Hop"

  • Shinning like who on top of this?? MOS!!!!

  • that beat is raw as hel, not to mention the flow

  • My fav hip hop artists: Nas, Common, Lupe Fiasco, Black Thought, Andre 3K and last but not least Mos Def. Keep real hip hop alive, y'all. I'm mexican and love hip hop so much that all music dies when hip hop does.

  • one of ma fav songs

  • fukk lil wayne this is real rap.....this is the flow that we seem to not have nowadays

  • i know

  • hip hip realista, de verdade, faz susesso ate no brasil esse som, mos def muitoo FOdaaaaaaaaaa !

  • ReaL MuSicK

  • i love this chorus

  • they lyrics aint mangeled. you just gotta listen...

  • Midwest love for brooklyn...minneapolis still has real hiphop flowin through its veins...keep it real mos

  • my narrative rose to explain this existence, amidst the harbour lights which remain in the distance

  • tru king fuck mainstream junk

  • Im embaressed to say this is the first time ive heard this song.

why do i have to actively seek hip hop like this?

  • Lol, I know, right? They never play these kinds of songs on mainstream radio. When I was little, I got my fill of hip hop from late night community radio. 89.3 fm WTBU. it lasted like 3 hours.

On a sidenote.(not a spam... I hate those) if you're new to hiphop or just a hip hop fan in general, you should check out the HIphop Docktrine mixtapes. They're kinda old now, but they got some dope joints on'em. You can't find'em in stores so if you want the links, just PM me and I'll send'em.

  • Bluefoxking, for real man, i get my fill from my college radio CJSW, saturdays are the best. 6-8 underground hip hop (other day they played slick rick then Doom) , 8-10 reggae, what more could you need.

  • LOL it seems most major cities in the US have these kind of program blocks on there community radio stations. Commercial radio stations have to much power nowadays and there to monitored by the fcc. but the only alternative is satellite radio. So what are ya gonna do, ya know?

  • This is real hip hop! Its good for chillen too

  • Took the words out of mouth. Three of my favorite hip hop artist!

  • what's the album's name of this song?

    Greetings from Spain.

  • Talib Kweli & Mos Def - Black Star

  • This is so fucking sick

  • this sng is a real classic...

  • wow over two million views

  • should be more

  • some good hip hop right here.

  • Man, we need more hip hop like this nowadays

  • @Rklx851

We need more hip-hop period. Rap is ruining shit.

  • we got technique and crew

  • Agreed to you both. Hip Hop is dead and Rap is just terrible outside a select few...

  • word up

  • Hip-Hop ain't dead yet, it's just the rap is at the forefront. I met KRS-One and we talked about it a little bit, and he said that hip-hop can never die because it's something we keep with all of us. True story. By the way, great fucking guy.

  • man i recently move away from the rap scene can u post me up with some chill hip hop songs like this? like luccini stuff like that and this...

  • Look son, you listen to anything by KRS-One, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Rza, Gza, Ghostface Killah, Q-Tip, Raekwon, Common, Lupe Fiasco, Public Enemy, Grandmaster Flash, Cypress Hill, Immortal Technique, The Roots, Old-school Eminem, Canibus, Big Pun, Tupac Shakur, NWA, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, Wu-Tang Clan, etc, you'll be good. I don't know if you wanted newer shit or older shit, but there's a mix of both in that list I just put up. Hope you get what you lookin' for.

  • Dope combination.

  • desde el alma*

    from da soul*

    tambien suena en chile! =)

    Easily top 5 all-time!

  • you can't get no more gutter than all black and white

  • It's a shame kuz Tek doesn't make tracks like this anymore.....

  • these guys are like crack to me. Cant get enough.

  • 3 of the best rappers around on the same track= classsic

  • Comment removed

  • <3 music

  • I would challenge anyone to find me a track composed from this music genre we call hip hop/ rap that is harder than this one..since its inception..

  • yes

  • Mos Def ft. Slick Rick - Auditorium

    Braille - Shades of Grey

    Braille - IV

  • Music For Life- Hi Tek ft. Nas, J. Dilla, Common.

  • this video reminds happy days when we bombed trains in station, nights spent goin outta house in seek of walls...friends lost...good music, it's still the music that moves my heart....

  • gully i feel srry u ur far too jaded god bless

  • BLACK STAR + COMMON =LIVE VIBE

  • rap isnt about whuts on your mind and soul. its about the same subject- hoes, clothes, money, and expenses..rappers like mos, talib and common rap to the people that aint got that

  • i hope you're being sarcastic about the part about "rap isnt about whats on your mind and soul" becuz that is a huge part of hip hop/rap

  • of course i was being sarcastic...obviously yu dont have sarcasm

  • everyone has sarcasm what are you talking about? its kind of hard to tell sarcasm over the internet, when its only words, cuz i know some idiots who think hip hop is what you said, but yeah, since sarcasm is all about the tone of voice and how its delivered, i guess i really should know what sarcastic and not sarcastic on the internet right? (that was sarcasm by the way lmao)

  • good one lol

but nah bro i wont lie i enjoy some new rappers like wayne but im more of an old school dude that hear these rappers like mos def to the soul

  • you like lil wayne? wtf dude, how? the dude sucks, especially now

  • hey y does everyone hate him im only asking coz im not a huge hip hop fan

  • well first off, the kid himself thinks hes the best, calls himself the "best rapper alive" his subject matter now is ridiculous, either hoes, money, or fame, his lyrical talent is average at best, at times he can be nice, but the lyrics dont make any sense at all, and have no meaning. his punchlines are mostly corny, and his metaphors are too, he has no real qualities at all to be considered the best, let alone himself proclaim it, hes shallow, fake, and overrated

  • LOL yeah Ur right like i was just listening to im me just before and alot of the lyrics don't make sense

  • Real hip hop fans hate shitty hip hop......that's why

  • yeah dogg i like all rap homie and rap breaks down into manyy sub-genres like lil wayne and i give him props for his style. but we all know that talib hip hop is the god hip hop so i show my respect to the masterrappers like mos, talib, technique, common, royce and many more but lil wayne is rap for the yungsters and im caught in between yung and older hip hop so i enjoy both

  • agree with all comments saying that this song is amazing! ....this is the epitome of real hip hop, cant listen to the commercialized garbage on the radio! ....check this group "INRG" they bringin back that feel good music!

  • a classic song....truth

  • so much on my mind that i cant recline...

real music, almost brings a tear to the eye no lie

  • the essence of hip hop!

    it feeds my soul!

  • Breath In, Breath Out!

  • This song is frickin amazing all I've got to say after listening to this track about 5 times straight is WHAT HAPPENED TO REAL HIP HOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ill tell yuh whut happend to hip hop..lil wayne, souljer boy, and bubblegum rap happened.

  • My top 10 1. Mos Def 2. Common 3. Black Thought 4. Andre 3000 5. Talib Kweli 6. One Be Lo 7. Nas 8. Kool G Rap 9. Cise Starr 10. LJ-Live Honorable mentions to Lupe Fiasco, Blu, Insight, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, Masta Ace, Canibus, Evidence, Ghostface Killah

  • I respect...

  • Now that's a list. Props for 3k in the top 5, that guys a beast

  • I dig the list man, Common taught me to write truth. but I'd add De la Soul, GZA, Group Home, Lost Boyz, and maybe Slick Rick

  • i stay in houston TX and niggas be looking at me like im retarded when they hear me bangin this in my car LOL

  • Good stuff. I've always said these are the guys who should be at the top of the Hip Hop charts but... we have Soulja and Lil Wayne and all that lame shit!

  • i feel u man these ppl up der right now aint worth shit

    this is real hip hop

  • "We New York , the narcotics

    Draped in metal & fiberoptics

Where mercenaries is paid to trade hot stock tips for profits

    Thirsty criminals, they pocket

Hard knuckes on the 2nd hands of working class watches

    The Skyscrapers is colossus

The cost of living is preposerous

Say alive, you pay or die, no options..."

    True spoken words....

  • Mos Def is too good.... even better live

  • Comment removed

  • ur a dumbass go listen to lil wayne and jack off to his unimaginable geyness

  • I own everything Mos ever put out you fucking idtiod.. I was correcting another moron who wrote the wrong lyrics.. Fucking douchebag, read.

  • Nah you fucking idiots, I was correcting somebody who wrote the wrong lyrics... wow!

  • wtf was that?

    an example or shit?

and that doesnt sound like lyrics,

    sounds like some bullshit commerical

    phrase or something.

  • this is pure art as hip hop was meant to be. You can taste grime in your mouth after this song is over, that's the impression a hip hop song's supposed to leave on the listener. For those who think real hip hop is dead, yeah it died, but once buried it began to live again underground.

  • true

  • "hard to be a spiritual being when shit is shakin what you believe in"

  • agreed, some legends that are underrated compared to todays hip POP crap!....check out the "INRG", jus bought their album- full of good music you dont hear as often like this!

  • Possibly the three realest MC's of all time.

This is what hip-hop is for those of you who don't know.

  • they do if you get satellite radio

  • man i wish they made sum radio station that plays nothn but good hip hop

  • me 2 this is really good to me , from the first beat to the last rhyme all through solid , i just wanna recomend :

    Cunninlynguists

    Masta Ace

  • i recommend a cat by the name of wyze geye look him up on youtube

  • This so true bout' cops, but if yo ain't got no heart then yo don't got guilt...cops really need to have any hart, peace from Tallinn !

  • Mos def's verse is sick.

  • Classic Material. We need this type of Conscious creativity in todays hiphop.

  • common kills it

  • when people talk about hip hop , they should mention this one. sick of 2000-rap......god take me back

  • real shit, what i like to see, not like all this new bland shit

  • i igree with ya heymaria123, that sentence is just pure.. but some robbers aren't conscious, because of their needs.. (to feed a son, or to help someone) and the cops, lot's of times have no excuses.. but, of couse, they have all their guilty,,

  • surrounded by hate, but i love home

  • WOW this song word for word is still relevant and so true ...his one: "No batman and robin..cant tell between the cops and robbers they both heartless, they all heartless with no conscious"

  • the beats the shits!

  • "You either make a way or stay sobbin, the shiny apple

Is bruised but sweet and if you choose to eat

You could lose your teeth, many crews retreat"

He's talking about New York..from the outside, it looks sexy...people wish they could live there...but if you actually lived there...in the hood... you'd wish otherwise. It isn't as sweet as it looks. New York is referred to as "the big apple" and everyone wants a bite of New York right? Straight genius.

  • o yeah i luv dis song

  • i like dis older hip hop better cuz the new hip hop just crazy right now i like it but older hip hop i like

  • fuck the new school i havent heard a good rap song since 05

  • Hey what about lupe fiasco's albums in '06 and '07?

  • AND raekwon and royce's new shitt

  • agree with yall Raekwon/ Royce , and Jay electronica!

  • Check out Blue Scholars, they be doin' it.

    This is a classic!

  • This beat is crazy.. this beat have been sample from DON RANDI - Theme From The Fox =))

  • where did mos sampled that song from @ 3:06

  • these niggas came off hard...listen to this at night and tell me they didnt

  • like word foe real...if u dissin dis callin dis fake hip hop and i gota sat i dont kno anyone who wuld but if any1 evr did? dat person iz str8 bull shit dis is hip hop, dis is rhythm and flow dis is dat really real shit

  • I name no name but...

It's a crying shame this isn't how it is today

I'm sure everyone can agree with that

  • This is real hip hop

  • mos def 1 of my favourites

  • Lil Wayne and the rest of the clowns would give their right balls for lyrics and flow such as common, mos and talib.

cant understand why them self haing negros go plata..its a crying shame ..one luv

  • I gotta say I hate rap and hip hop but this has always been an amazin album to listen too. This song especially, even though this one seems to have alot cut out of it for some reason. You pop this track on driving around at night it just amazing.

  • do hate the Bboying, Graffiti, Djing aspect of hip-hop or just the music, cuz hip-hop is more than just music it is a lifestyle:)

  • well actually to clarify I dont hate older hip hop, the newer "hip hop" is what I really hate. I could listen to Mos Def all day

  • there is and always will be good hip hop... u just need to know where to look... if u r looking for some good recent stuff check out Jay Electronica

  • REAL music not the little new boyz or drake or wayne or gucci mane or dorrough or birdman or flo rida or the dream or soulja boy or plies or...the list is to long

listen to real artists like mos or talib or common or s.o.b. or wale or cudi or cube or consequence or brother ali or andre nickatina or zion I or busta or even jay-Z (sometimes) theres many more

point is the radio sucks ass and needs to play real artists like this

  • thats what i'm sayin!!!

  • i know it sounds corny, but this is fucken beautiful sound to ears, hip hop needs more fresh air like this

  • The rappers back in the day flowed and they had something to say. I dont get this new shit. I might sound old, but I dont care. Lil Wayne aint shit as far as the content of his rhymes. He cant hold the balls of Mos Def, Common or Talib Kweli.

  • Man i wish black star would do one more album slept on classic!

  • they are recording a 2nd album :D

  • zajebiście płyń smarku

  • speak english kurwa ;P
