The funny thing is, the VAZ 2107 is based on the Fiat 124. And the Lada guys in Togliatti/Russia improved it, gave it a better suspension, toughened up the body's structure, improved the engine, improved the heating system, the Russians made the better car. I used to own one in the 80's. Starting out on married life, to the eye alls in mortgage, but the Ladakh is a good car from the point of view of getting you to work reliably. It was buried in snow for two days once. First frank and she was away. I kept passing cars that bellied out on the snow. They are, for what they are, good cars.

Lada cars are the strongest and most long lasting cars and do not have anything to do with communists. It was just made in USSR. That does not mean it was purchased especially by communists!!! It was-and is-very popular in Greece, Poland, Serbia, Bulgaria, Hungary, and many more. It was a cheap simple, friendly and reliant car.
