If it is rough inside the pipe try rig up something that can sand the inside of the barrel so it is smoother. It appears all that's blocking the breech is a dowel rod with it's firing pin ! So if fired, half the force will go out the front and the other out the back... A better thought out version might make a good boobytrap, but something like this ( this one is not even close to a gun just pipe put together) would only be shot with BLACK POWDER shells.

hmmm....very impressive self improvisations when i c your rear sight been built on 2 plastic's but i cant imagine...its tough and hurts my wrist whenever i shoot a 2 3/4 inch on a single hand (pumpgun) let's not mention a 3inch on a fully self improvised steel tube. but thanks for sharing

i wonder whether homemade guns can be considered guns at all? they aren't licesenced as guns therefore technically they're just gizmos that throw objects... so laws ideally shouldn't affect them

tigerboy is correct 18 inch barrel is min with 26'' overall length minimum .never commit a felony unless its bank robbery or something that pays ALOT .if the gun meets size limets and the breech part was beefed up a bit ,its better than no weapon .also no 3'' magnum loads in such a contraption ,thats just asking for trouble .

@nowthisis2stupid In most states, it's NOT illegal to build a zip gun. However, I do have a feeling this would be illegal due to the short barrel as the 18" barrel length still applies to zip guns.

@Pilotgeek I have a feeling building an un-serialized firearm, is kind of frowned upon by BATFE. I can't see doing this and risking it when I can get a single shot 12 gauge from say H&R for right around $100, even less second hand. I truly apologize for the prison comment, that was not a tasteful thing to say.

There are plenty of people out there who build legitimate weapons on their own, simply as a hobby. Of course, they're usually of much higher quality and usually built by home machinists with lathes and cnc mills. Not saying a water-pipe shotgun is by any means a good idea though, by any means.

Homebuilt guns are legal, provided they fall within state and federal laws. For a shotgun, if it has a barrel length less than 18" or the overall length is less than 26", it's a felony to possess, manufacture, or transport if you haven't filed the paperwork and paid the fee to register/manufacture a short barreled shotgun.
