For those interested, the U.S. version of this commercial had a different audio track, with a different announcer. The text of the audio was as follows:
You must travel back in time one billion years to witness its birth
You may never find a more brilliant or enduring creation. ...
You can comb the world and not find one the same.
It is rare.
It is precious.
It... is... love.
...and its only promise is forever.

This could be one of those 'your favorite commercial of all time' commercials! Hyper impactful in it's simplicity. Like other, I searched for this for YEARS to no end. Thanks again Knysna!! I hope you are getting a hint of an idea what you've done to bring this back into the world of so many.
I love this advert. I remember watching the US Open and Wimbledon as a child and this being shown during the breaks. I loved the music then and I love it now. I can't believe that you've uploaded it and it's on Youtube! I'm so happy you've done this because I've been searching for it for years...
what a beautiful song. i too remember this commercial from when i was a kid. i love how the scene shifts to the man and woman on the beach just as the diamonds are falling out of his hand.. i cant believe i found this video. thanks for putting it up. its only 30 seconds, but its so powerful. youtube is something else!
THANK YOU.. oh bless you .. i remember this and hum this tune all the time.. when i was a kid this commercial touched something in me! i have been looking for this forever. Thank you so much for letting me see this again after all those decades!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is my all-time favorite commercial. I thought I'd never find it again. I was just a kid when it used to play but the tune hit something deep in me. I never forgot it and was always wanting to find it again. I'm so grateful you posted this.
The commercial is not only perfect, it brings a tear to my eye, 25 years later.
The man and woman on this masterpiece have no idea what an impact a simple thing like this can have on people.
It took over 20 years for me to see this commercial again, my reaction is still the same it was back then when I was 20.
I remember stopping everything that I was doing, every time it was on, just looking at it, dreaming, wishing, hoping, it is so much more for me than I can really tell.
There's something profound in that tune. I haven't heard it since 1987 (I was only 9 years old!), but I've remembered it accurately and whistled and hummed it ever since. I hope pinkcora is right that De Beers didn't acquire the license to use the song. It would imply there's a full version of this song out there. It would be a shame to think this beautiful tune exists only as a 30-second piece. In the age of the Internet, this is the only song from my youth I can't find.
Was this song made especially for the commercial, or does anyone know what it's called & who it's composer is? I, too, am very happy to have connected to such a beautiful memory...I LOVED this commercial! :-)
I thought I was the only one who remembered this commercial and insturmental. Come to find out there were dozens of people searching for it just as hard as I was.
Platinum thanks!!!
Now you need to put an APB on the whole internet :-).
I've also been looking for it as I worked in adv. for a jewelry co. in the 80's, We were using this tv spot & wanted the music for a radio spot. I called Debeers, they said they would get back to me . They called back & said someone had made a booboo & not acquired the rights to the music & to stop running the spot . I never heard back from them & never saw the spot again. I found it accidentally when I was trying to send you a message telling you about that. So glad we can enjoy it again!
Never forgot this vid, and I had thought, from 25 years ago, that the music track was Enya's "Watermark". Powerful video....
