From an outsider perspective with no allegiance to the US left or right, they framed the question (like so many dubious pollsters) as saying that whatever Greg would propose, would be as bad as completely cutting off ed funding. No,most states have laws that won't allow them to into debt. Which is great in good times. However, in times like this past year states are faced with making drastic cuts in programs like education. What kept them from having to make such cuts was the federal money provided by the stimulus.
Bush left an $800 billion debt. Obaomao then quadrupled it upon taking office, for no reason other than to destroy the economy, which he's done. Now a year later he says it needs to be cut. Obow is in way over his head. These girls haven't a clue about reality.
Bush's Budget for FY2009 ended 30/9/2009. That year alone, Bush added 1.2 TRILLION to the deficit. Obama's additional spending to rescue Bush's trainswreck was roughly 0.5 Trillion so far.

Sorry but the debt is not theory. China is not going to continue to lend us money. The value of the dollar is dropping drastically buying power goes down. As the dollar gets weaker with our increasing debt we become more poor.
Cutting Spending for Freezing Spending will not strengthen the dollar. On the contrary. The size of the Debt is a concern, nobody denies that.
However, more important than Debt for a strong dollar is a growing economy that is starting to hum again. And right that can only be accomplished by stimulating it through the government. National Debt is a second concern, not the first.

And to blow your top completely: Bernanke admitted that the private market should have used the same underwriting standards as the CRA-regulated banks. Mortgages from those banks have defaulted the least during this recession.
When Bush was so concerned about the mortgage market, why did he repeatedly flood the market with more and more taxcredits to buy buy buy more more homes?
Over the years, he flooded that credit market with at least 440 Billion dollars. And Fannie and Freddie were forced to guarantee all that money. Bush signed the Single-Family Affordable Housing Tax Credit Act. Dubbed "Renewing the Dream,", the American Dream Downpayment Act, he tripled the funding for organizations like Habitat for Humanity.
But eventually, the real culprits where the private lenders. THEY had absolutely NO underwriting standards because the securitized the risks and sold them to investers.
And their market was in the suburbs, not the inner cities.

Bush ran a deficit and that is why some of us conservatives were unhappy with him as well. He was given a partial, though not complete, pass due to focus on the war on terror. Obama, however, has taken government spending and deficits to unprecedented levels. They are not sustainable period.

No,most states have laws that won't allow them to into debt. Which is great in good times. However, in times like this past year states are faced with making drastic cuts in programs like education. What kept them from having to make such cuts was the federal money provided by the stimulus.

Bush's Budget for FY2009 ended 30/9/2009. That year alone, Bush added 1.2 TRILLION to the deficit. Obama's additional spending to rescue Bush's trainswreck was roughly 0.5 Trillion so far.

We have a National Debt of 12 Trillion. Reagan, Bush1 and Bush2 are responsible for 10 (!!!!!!!) Trillion of that Debt.

Cutting Spending for Freezing Spending will not strengthen the dollar. On the contrary. The size of the Debt is a concern, nobody denies that.
However, more important than Debt for a strong dollar is a growing economy that is starting to hum again. And right that can only be accomplished by stimulating it through the government. National Debt is a second concern, not the first.

Straw man again. She, and Krugman, don't blame the downturn on less spending. Spending is the only thing that can pull us out of recessions. Cutting will worsen the recession.

And when the downturn is finally finished, you will have to accept that the only way to get a sound budget again is increase revenues through raising taxes (starting with the rich), and cut spending on programs that don't work: starting with the excessive bloated Military budget.

Maybe he's still angry he was unable to skew the 2010 census in favor of his party by taking advantage of President Obama's offer of the cabinet position whereby he thought would control it. When he found out otherwise he changed his mind and declined the nomination. Talk about duplicitous!

Bush ran a deficit and that is why some of us conservatives were unhappy with him as well. He was given a partial, though not complete, pass due to focus on the war on terror. Obama, however, has taken government spending and deficits to unprecedented levels. They are not sustainable period.

Cutting or even to freeze spending during a Depression/Big Recession is the worst you can do. Hoovervilles are an example of such an approach.
Nobody is saying the current level of spending is or should be sustainable. Nobody. You're debating a straw man there.
