Beautiful singing. John Newton had been a slave trader and wrote this about himself. It's truly an amazing grace that could save a wretch like him or any of us.
@KoolaidSARANGKhJ Well... the thing is, if you work with classical voice, you learn pretty much all of the technique to do opera, musical theater, pop, etc. It just depends on how resonant you want (pop being the least difficult of them all).
i hate her voice lol. but she tried. and even though freeqwerqwer is an ignorant pompous fuck ( i agree) he didn't refer to it as a negro spiritual, he said a black person would have done it better.
I agree with you in one point, freeqwerqwer, it was kind of boring beceause this song should be sung in either classical or jazz style. This ''pseudo'' and country-like style was unfitted. I am a little dissapointed in her because I watched this right after The Queen of Night. This performance was not memorable.

As I said, she sings like a foreigner. Her singing doesn't show character; it was rather bland and indistinct ---and she strained her throat when she reached the high notes. Regardless of origin, the best rendition of this song is done by a Negro singer.

Terrible version of Amazing Grace. Sung just like a foreigner who doesn't know the language. There is no soul nor character to her singing. She is just a soprano who wants to sing it cleanly and "pretty"----but the song is not about clean, clear, nor pretty singing. The soulful song is really a negro spiritual.
@freeqwerqwer For your information, this is NOT a Negro Spiritual.
"Amazing Grace" is a Christian hymn written by English poet and clergyman John Newton (1725–1807), published in 1779. With a message that forgiveness and redemption are possible regardless of the sins people commit and that the soul can be delivered from despair through the mercy of God, "Amazing Grace" is one of the most recognizable songs in the English-speaking world.
@jmgibon does it really matter? this is a Spiritual song that should speak to your soul. it doesnt matter where when or who wrote the song. Good Job with the Wiki copy and paste btw.
@jdhhemi08 I fully agree with you. For me, what counts in music is the feeling, the soul or whatever word we use. This applies to any genre of music and regardless of the color/religion/political ideas of the artist. Too many great artists have unfortunately been ignored in this country because of these factors.
@macmacverson Jo Sumi does not have perfect pitch. She was never stated to have it. Also, please learn what perfect pitch is. It's not hard to sing something in tune even in a capella. All you need to know is the notes and how to count.
‘Baroque is so different to the opera and lieder I usually sing. For a start, the pitch is lower – 415 hz. My piano is perfectly turned to 440 hz and I have perfect pitch so this is really very difficult for me.’
You should be happy to have that. Its a unique thing to have --. My old drummer had perfect pitch. Me being the guitarist, it was kind of odd. Before our live gigs, he would tune all the instruments. Never had to use electronic tuners, he would always get the tuning precisely where it had to be, and he did it bloody fast!
IF certain songs used a different tuning, he would tune the other instruments to whatever needed it.
This voice with this song let me be speechless, I'm floating in space beyond myself and all the trouble I have seen... Sumi, if this energy would go around the world, there would be joy and peace... Thank you!

How many singers can sing so well that at first you don't even notice there is no accompaniment.

‘Baroque is so different to the opera and lieder I usually sing. For a start, the pitch is lower – 415 hz. My piano is perfectly turned to 440 hz and I have perfect pitch so this is really very difficult for me.’
Pavarotti was another.
