The words of Christ that the church uses for its teachings of hell is about the pending judgment on Israel. Christ ministered only to the Jews, and not the gentiles. @386ABC Take your own advice. Sheol was the place of darkness where souls go after death. After Jesus died on the Cross, he went into Sheol and gathered those in paradise to heaven, then what was left of the Sheol were those who are now considered to be in hell.

Let's say the person you hate is sick. You avoid them because you hate them. But Jesus says to visit the sick. Thus your sin is a sin of omission not commission. In fact the reasons people go to hell are more for sins of omission than commission. For example Christ will say on the day of judgment, "I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat...thirsty...sick etc..." To those he will say "depart from me you evil doers." Christ calls them evil doers because of what they failed to do.

The words of Christ that the church uses for its teachings of hell is about the pending judgment on Israel. Christ ministered only to the Jews, and not the gentiles. His agenda was to warn the sheep of Israel that the age of the OC is at an end (AD70). This was the judgment put on the Jews (on the flesh, not the spirit).

@386ABC Take your own advice. Sheol was the place of darkness where souls go after death. After Jesus died on the Cross, he went into Sheol and gathered those in paradise to heaven, then what was left of the Sheol were those who are now considered to be in hell.

What will belief in hell do other than encourage a person to lead a good moral life. Whereas lack of belief in hell will tend to make a person less concerned about committing grave sin.

@386ABC The creation story refers to the creation of the material world - the earth, the stars, animals and so forth. It does not cover the creation of angels. According to the Catholic church angels were created before man. The Catholic church makes not authoritative statement on where hell is although it gives characteristics of hell such as it is eternal separation from God, a place of torment and so forth. Also the Catholic Church does not require a literal translation of Genesis.

@386ABC No, "worm dieth not" speaks to eternal suffering. The suffering on earth is temporal. It always comes to an end at some point. Yes weeping and gnashing of teeth happens on earth too. But in hell it is worse because the torment is eternal. Jesus used the example of Gehenna as a comparison to hell to give people a tangible idea of hell.

Let's say the person you hate is sick. You avoid them because you hate them. But Jesus says to visit the sick. Thus your sin is a sin of omission not commission. In fact the reasons people go to hell are more for sins of omission than commission. For example Christ will say on the day of judgment, "I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat...thirsty...sick etc..." To those he will say "depart from me you evil doers." Christ calls them evil doers because of what they failed to do.
