  • Every time I hear this, I am certain it must be used as Discord's theme song in a Pony movie. It just fits him so perfectly! The flowing waltz, with the touch of unease and eeriness, morphing into something akin to a hint of a circus romp, changing to crystalline chimes and suddenly back to the orchestral cacophony. I can visualize the Dark Lord of Chaos twisting the poor ponies around his talons and claws with every note! It'd be chilling for use in a climactic scene of a pony's downfall.

  • @Alondro77 Yes, make this happen people... Also, I listened to this alone... on Valentines Day... and I couldn't be happier

  • @CodenameX96 I'd have to say, for maximum impact, this would have to be used for either Twilight or Celestia's fall to Discord. Of course, since they are both best pony in my book, this just means that they'll have an even greater triumph in the end. Nothing says epic animation drama like a huge uphill battle against the odds after what seems a crushing, insurmountable defeat!

  • lovely, simply lovely

  • This is marvelous work.

  • Amazing. Just amazing.

  • @ointbalm A waltz, my friend, is a piece of music - usually with a formal mood - written in 3/4 time (one two three... one two three...).

  • In a lost world of dreams, there is a stone castle. In its center is a grand ballroom with mirrors along all the walls, with intricate carvings around the ceiling. On a crystal dias in the middle of the floor a ghostly orchestra plays this waltz as the ghost couples dance. None can tell if they know of their deaths and disregard them, or if they are stuck in an eternal waltz, unknowing of what has befalled them...

  • Neat.

  • WHAT'S A WALTZ COMPOSED OF?

  • Five years. It had been five years since the madness started. Five years since the first nightmare, the first clue. The first betrayal. Twilight Sparkle had spent five long years following the clues left in her mind by whoever was sending them, unearthing dark secrets and watching her friends leave her one by one in different ways, some by fear and some by hurt.

The nightmare had led her to a rundown mimic of Her castle. Here she would wait for it to end. Soon she'd see her friends again...

  • Is okay if I think of waffles when I hear this song?

  • made me think of the theme from Sherlock Holmes for some reason.

  • @geldshot it shares some similarity cause of the rhythm

  • The music combined with the art reminds me of the masque of the red death.

  • What happened to all your videos?

  • @xThehomicidaltacox Just put them on private until I can sort out this troll business.

  • What happened to all your videos?

  • It had been years since Twilight had last visited the Castle remains. It was cold in the winter night air. She remembered when the battle had begun, and where it ended, with Celestia falling and the ponies loosing all hope. She backed away to a dark corner, near a pegasus. With her magic she moved a few papers and files to the pegasus’ saddle bags. "Rainbowdash, get this to the Resistance. I can’t talk… their expecting me.”

“Got it,” Rainbowdash flew away. Twilight's plan was in motion.

  • who the buck disliked this? *tactical facehoof*

  • not expecting 2 k = getting 12k. congrats!

  • It is great.. and creepy.. o_o

  • love it. If it would be possible in the near future to create more works using the piano? You are a great inspiration. ^_^

  • Sounds like something that would be played when the damsil in destress is forced to dance with her capture.

  • Sends a chill down my spine everytime :D

  • A scene from the movie Anastasia comes to mind. The spectres of the once glorious empire waltzing in the hallowed hallways and the lost princess struggling to remember her past.

  • May I ask you yo upload this painting on DA? I know, it is not original work and more like tracing, but still.. at last in scraps.

  • @KeinZantezuken Well I have a direct link to the full rez in the description. What did you need it uploaded to DA for?

  • @makkon06

I understand this is not an original work of yours but more like a trace thus why you don't really want to upload it in your gallery (or, at last, this is the reason I assume), but it would be nice if you could upload it on DA just for gallery's sake. I like to keep some things in favorites folder just for easy access/sharing.

  • A Waltz for Luna.

  • whee!!! :DD yay! i'm so glad you put that there. :3

  • want sheet music soooo bad...

  • Hello, Makkon! I simply love your music, I can't wait to hear more of your works in the future. Its artistic contributions such as this that strengthen the vitality and add to the emotional depth of the FiM mythos; keep up the fine work!!

Could you please share with us the exact name of the keyboard you're using? I may know next to nothing in terms of composition and performance, but works like this piece here have inspired me to do my best to learn how to express the love I have for music...>

  • @amthatis07 through the art of writing my own. I just started looking for a MIDI keyboard and have narrowed my search down to two models, one with semi-weighted keys and another with a whole bunch of nobs and sliders, both at the same price range. Can you share with us your experience with different keyboards and such? Are the semi-weighted ones better at capturing the expressiveness of an actual piano? Which should I choose if I'm most interested in writing for piano?

  • @amthatis07 Thank you very much! I use a Kurzweil SP2X, it has a full 88 key range and full weighted keys, a modulation and pitch wheel, and some other knobs that I never use. I got it for a deal, about $600, though typically this model runs for about $900. You might be able to get a good deal on a used one, I just got lucky since the music store I purchased mine from ran out of the Yamaha model I was looking for so they discounted me on this one. Let me know if you have anymore questions :)

  • @makkon06 Thanks for the quick response! Haha, while I have your attention I can't help but ask if you could apprise us of the next project you have planned? I'm not a very patient pony, sorry :p

  • @amthatis07 Sure, working on Deae Lunae, or Goddess of the Moon. Remake of my first song Luna Deos, and it's about half done. Taking me a bit long because I've been distracted with Skyrim too much.

  • @makkon06 Ha. Everypony is distracted with Skyrim right now =)

  • @makkon06 Hello again, Makkon! I'm still scouring the internets for a good keyboard with great action and USB to MIDI. I'm very much taken with the Casio PX3 and at <$700 seems very affordable. I'd love to hear your input or opinion on the model.

  • @amthatis07 Well it's getting good reviews from what I've read, my only concern is that it only has a pitch bend wheel and not a modulation wheel. That's not bad, but if you want that function for composition other than piano you'll have to buy an expression pedal, and they can be about $60+. Otherwise it has some of the best key action you can get. Good find!

  • compose a pavane plz

  • That was amazing!

  • Someone tell lionhead to put this in fable 4.

  • I'm generally not into this type of music, but this piece is very pleasing to me :)

  • if you make a waltz album i will die happy

  • Hallowed? As in made holy? Great piece here, bro!

  • @scarletmisfit My mistake lol. I glimpsed it, not read it. Aaaand thank you for the crash course English lesson :/

  • @47sMiuMiu No worries. ;)

  • This image reminds me of Sleeping Beauty's background art. Very nice.

  • You know, I enjoy dancing, but I've never waltzed before. This sounds like it would be fun to... waltz too?

  • Wow... if ever there is a Friendship Is Magic movie, this deserves a place in the soundtrack. It speaks of Discord and his trickery unleashed upon the silver screen, I can almost feel a story taking shape in my mind as he spins a diabolical web of lies and madness in his vengeance wreaked upon the poor ponies.

  • I want to make love during this music. I want to make love TO this music. I want to make love to its creator. Fuck it, I just fucking love this music.

  • how did you come up with THE most amazing tune?! It really made me think of a creepy pony dances in an old abondond castle with a spooky stillion and a spooky mare dancing? That would be a good idea for a sort movie

  • Love the paintover. :D

    Nice composition.

  • 2000 subsrcibers eh? make that 2001

  • I wish that I was this productive when I'm sick.

  • Alright... FasterThanRainbows... Do your thing...

  • This is just beautiful. Great work, once again.

  • awesome as usual

  • I am ok with this

    actually I love this

    THIS IS GOOD MUSIC

  • downloaded before listening :D thanks for all the great music, man.

  • Every time I listen to your music, ideas rush through my head! Truly inspiring stuff.

    DO WANT

  • This.

    Is.

    IN-FREAKIN-CREDIBLE~! <3

  • Awesome

  • This is absolutely gorgeous. I love how dark this waltz seems. Beautiful work, man. :D

  • You composed this in less then a day!? ...wow.

  • I do feel the grip on Trixie's waltz better but this one fits the hollow title.

You deserve all of the account, O, Great Makkon. You deserve it.

  • @47sMiuMiu The title doesn't say hollow. :P

    hallowed

Verb: Honor as holy. Make holy; consecrate.

  • Beautifull and magnifacent

  • Symphobia? D: areyouawizard

  • i really think you have inspired so many people with almost everything you have made. i love you music, and i hope to hear more.

  • Oooh, I like this a lot. Your actually the one who inspired me to write orchestrals (I'm up to 61 songs in 3 weeks). I heard your Avast Octavia's Plot song and wanted to cover it. People liked it so much, I decided to keep doing it. Thank you!

  • I love this man, so beautiful :)

  • Well thank you.

This is a very lovely waltz. Very beautiful. In one day? Gosh! That's Impressive. No wonder from you. Since your other works are great. Can't wait for your next one.

  • @makkon06

If you sent me the midi file i could probably convert it to sheet music if you'd like...

    Could take a bit tho.

  • That picture was practically MADE for Fallout: Equestria!

  • Eerie... Yet playful... WE APROVETH OF THIS PIECE!!!

  • Well gee, I wonder why it would remind me of A Waltz for Trixie. Hmm.

  • You are a musical genius. Don't let anyone ever tell you otherwise.

  • Oohh. Delicious. You never disappoint, Ben.

  • yay, my favourite pony artist.

I'm waiting patiently to the Empire of the Golden Sun, but as it seems you can impress me with pretty much everything you do. You're sir, like the Midas of Music, Imperial Sun or not everything you compose turns into pure gold.

  • Love it. Look forward to more of your work.

  • why are you so awesome?

  • The video's image is to me a reminder of what the castle looked like in the fiction "End of Ponies". Though the song is in no way related to that story.

  • *shakes head slowly* What am I going to do with you?

  • I love your music so much and am thoroughly impressed that you do all this without music literacy. However, I am curious how you manage to get such realistic, human sound quality. Would you mind telling me what program you use to create such delightful sounding music? :D

  • @guin366 And now I feel silly because it's in the description.

  • @guin366 Thank you! The software I used is in the description. As for the human feel to it, I performed the song myself on a digital piano. I might not be able to read music, but I feel like I can play decently.

  • Im not too hot for the waltzes, but I can recognize a good song when I hear one.

Congratz on keeping up the good work, Makkon.

  • Your songs are incredible and always brighten my day! (and in this case my night)

  • Love that song!

We don't get any piano sheets this time, do we?

    Please..?

  • @TheCrooper I'm really sorry bro, I'd love to but I'm musically illiterate. If there's any takers to make a transcription, I'd happily hand out the midi though.

  • @makkon06 The midi would be enough for me to play it, but I can't write a correct sheetmusic either.^^

  • @makkon06 I should be able to create sheet music from a midi. Haven't actually done it before, but I think I have a program to help.

  • @SkitterOfTheBeat

I've used Notation Musician before, it has a pretty high fidelity. Some rhythms are written awkwardly, but it's accurate and pretty good for the price. Again, this is for (multi-layered) midi conversions.

  • What is there to say? It's amazing what you can do with music

  • Please make an album, I would give you all my money for it!

  • So I just got a nice musical piece and a new very nice wallpaper? Quite a doublement of amusement here, if you ask me ;)

  • lovely. almost reminds me of the hungarian suicide song haha.

  • How I did not see this until I walked into your page I will never know...

  • Confound you bronies and your awesome, glorious music making angels in the form of ponies upon my shattered psyche... :L

  • Perfect.

  • This is beautiful, can't stop listening.

  • Keep making music. At all costs.

Oh, and drawing, too. And let's not forget modelling.

  • Best Halloween gift Ever.

  • i've cried.

    really.

    it's beautiful.

  • You made this?

    I thought APB was playing good music for once ;-;

  • Nightmare Moon slowly walked through the broken castle.

Those long barren empty halls had been devoid of pony life for centuries.

    This was Celestia's ultimate punishment.

That she could make the night last forever... when there was no one around to stop her.

Her power surged as her anger went unchecked. Great bolts of lightning shot out like javelin's from her mane, breaking windows and blasting chunks of the wall away.

As the dust settled, the moonlight could be seen shining in her tears

  • @sharksrunbackwardz That would be a heartbreaking fanfic.

  • Another wonderful waltz made by Makkon, your music sounds like it took ages to make.

  • Beutiful.

  • Makkon, thank you. I simply love the music you make and this waltz is no exception.

    Again, thank you.

  • Dude, you are just way to good at this man, bravo!

    great job

  • I definitely love your waltzes.

    I definitely love your songs.

    I definitely love you.

  • that is a nice spooky waltz theme, really creepy and cool, kinda reminds me of nightmare before christmas, and that makes it even cooler :)

  • Amazing...

  • Spectacular one!

  • Oh my god that was awesome. Love your music SO much!

  • And then of course, that's completely thrown out the window about half way through.

I LOVE IT EVEN MORE NOW.

  • Well, of course it reminds of Trixie's Waltz.

The underlying chord structure quite similar.

But that's the mystical thing about it.

It takes something you know, and completely reworks it! :D

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!

  • My god, this is incredible.

    And so is the artwork.

I love this sort of melody so much. Don't stop.

  • Heh, heh, heh... It is surely no surprise for somepony of your unique talents to have reached 2, 000 subscribers by now, right? Very happy to hear you're back on the proverbial horse and making music once again. Such a fantastic piece to stroll back in with.

  • You never fail to please Makkon, never let your musical talent burn out

  • Oh my gosh makkon, great music as usual. And you're making a Luna Deos 2?!? Omigoshomigosh! I can't wait for it! No wait, yes I can! Work on it as much as possible! I'll be waiting. You're the best.

  • Love it. Makes me wanna find a dancing partner at 2:15 in the morning just for this song.

  • Haloween waltz, who woulda thunk it would work so well?

  • Beautiful =')

  • Yes. Yes. YESSSSSS!!!

  • Perfect fit for the occasion.

Released on Halloween day. What a coincidence!.
